Haha! I have never laughed so hard at a humaqn Sesame Street sketch. "Are you jivin' me?" Right on Gordon. Sounded like Pirate Shaft haha. I also love his pratfalls and when Olivia drops the chest on his foot. This is absolutely classic.
What I like best about this bit is its highly accurate portrayal of pirates. Most people aren't aware that this was how pirates spent their days: yelling at each other to bring in the treasure chests, keeping the biggest chest full of rubber duckies. Meanwhile the other pirates were out looting, plundering, having sword fights, killing people.
If Ernie saw the chest full of Rubber Duckies, then he would be surprised and full of joy, while Bert on the other hand, would be moaning and groaning like heck.
Will Lee staggering through the foreground at 01:31 is absolutely F-ing hysterical. This is what happens when you have a talented ensemble cast and then trust them when the camera rolls, man.
I remember another segment where Maria, David, Luis and Bob are the Knights of the Round Table... or are they? Before they could have their feast (sandwiches), they had to have the right table. Also a way to learn about the square, triangle, rectangle and circle. Anyone ELSE remember that?
This was one of Mr. Hooper's last appearances on Sesame Street. It's from the 1982-1983 season, which was Will Lee died in the middle of. What a funny ending. Too bad Ernie wasn't there! :)
Oh heck yeah; remember when the show had *real* street stories and new human characters were a good thing? Those were the days, as Archie Bunker sang...
Bob is hilarious as a pirate! He's so eager! XD

This brings back memories. I always loved how Gordon went from his fierce pirate voice to "Are you jivin' me?"

Where did Olivia go. She hasn't been seen on SS in almost 30 years.

Ahh,back when the human swere allowed to do sketches ON THEIR OWN...and didn't have to have the puppets to back them up!
Nowadays ya hardly see the humans anymore...I don't think I've even seen Susan ONCE this season!

I am 32 years old, and I totally remember this one! I thought that if Ernie saw that chest full of rubber duckies that he would be in paradise!

Agreed. But even WITH all those rubber duckies, would he vie to take them all home if it meant living on a deserted island for 39 days?

Oh yes! This was a great video! And it was nice to see Olivia again- it'd be nice if the human cast did more of these type segments again...

I agree. Roscoe Orman as "Trash Gordon" just ISN'T enough!

Roscoe Hamming it up as usual. One of my favorite SS humans.

I just laughed audibly at that. It's too bad the Sesame Street humans don't get to show off like that on the show much anymore.
