  • we cant even make computers can recognize somewhat garbled text but we are going for making cars that drive themselves, well i do believe in AI but this is bunch of prioritized algorithms wont cut it, they made a good commercial and PR mambo-jambo though.

  • This is all great, But I hope you will stick to basic mechanics of the car. I should be able to have zero assists if I want.

  • lmfao stupid germans should be more concerned in making their cars reliable instead of focusing on these pointless over the top technology.

  • @Jamzkangster go drive a buick lol and stfu

  • @bsdpowa you mean my trouble free, ACURA TSX~! SURE! :]

  • Pauze at 0:01 ; MISTER BURNS! :D

  • There goes the driving experience...

  • The driver has to be responsible and ready to take over... Some people barely pay attention now, and they're actually driving the car.

  • the driver seems to pray :-D

  • NOW this is good. With Japan and all their weird looking concept cars that make no sense at all but are still EXTREMELY clever, are kinda useless tbh. But THIS can be intertwined with our already existing systems! Brilliant work :)

  • mobile-mm.de

  • GOPRO 1:29!!

  • yeah let have everyone be told what to do, fuck that good idea but I like my freedom and choice.

  • If there is a sudden problem with the car like flat tire, etc?

  • Google one was better :D

  • I remember thinking as a young child about if this would ever happen. Little disturbing to see this is already being developed.... I'm only a college student now. It hasn't been that long.

  • no i wont!! cars malfunction... and besides this takes the fun out of driving? like wtf? quit being lazy and just drive...

  • Go forward BMX.

  • soon dashboards will make the steering wheel look like an accessory

  • I am waiting for KITT!

  • did anyone see if it indicated while changing lanes...?

  • this would be my dream job when i finish my phd !!

  • Im just wondering, if there is a construction site and there are just signs too tell the uncoming traffic to slow down, how will it react to that? Can it read signs that are just posted temporary?

  • i wont be letting a computer drive me around any time soon, good luck making a bike drive itself...

  • well, it didn't use the turn signal, so it doesn't follow every traffic rule

  • @mummimoi 1:55 min?

  • beeing controlled by machines??? what a dick..stay in your kitchen bitch

  • @subzerocorfu

its using technology not being used by it. " hurr durr technology is bad " oh rly? wow dude.. wondering how you mad this post without technology. pc/internet? i think 30 years ago there were som retards like you talking: " internet? hell no .. ill wirte my letter by hand - go back to the kitchen internet " .. just bcoz you are not used to it dosent mean its bad.

  • @Wazooty dude.....dont get me wrong, and im no retard i love tec,i could not live without it(sad but true)..but tec should have limits..yes make things easier and safer, but this is the start of beeing toatally controlled. and im just not up to that mate.

  • Bwm is a car for drivers pleasure, not for reading papers in it.

  • Great for when your drunk.

  • This is awesome! Will give "taxi" a new meaning.

Another aspect that I like about automatization is that all the jobs that require basic intellect skills will no longer be required to have a human operator which, in turn, means that all the primitive (do not confuse with indigenous people, who want to "stay the same") people will disappear from our world in a couple generations. This is truly exciting!

  • Why do I feel like this is just cruise control with added automatic steering wheel control

  • @luggage12345 Why shouldn't you?

  • The iRobot conception of driving shall come true! manual driving will be a thing of the past

  • new product of god!!!

    no driving license anymore

  • ill stick to driving my own car thanks, I dont want to rely on computers to get me safely to my destination..

  • -Drive yourself home regardless of being sick/tired/drunk

-No more "teen driver" problems (possibly with less requirements for a license)

-Very few accidents after many people start using it

    Sounds good to me

  • Hypothetical question: if these types of cars do make it to market and by some chance or some software glitch one does crash, who is at fault? If automakers decide to take responsibility for the few crashes that occur I suspect the auto insurance industry may have a problem with this......

  • I, ROBOT OH MY JESUS

  • now you could dui..

  • I love driving. Im gonna keep it old school and drive myself! It will be nice to go to a bar and not worry about a DD though!

  • Must be easier and cheaper to get on a train surely.

  • this will never work, too expensive and itll never be able to adapt to unpredictable crazy event on the road, sure its probably gunna be great for freeway driving from city to city but thats it

  • @Dem0nz890, It already works. And it will for all types of roads and driving conditions.

Google's self-driving cars have ALREADY clocked over 200K miles driving themselves around cities and various other trafficked roads, driving among other cars. And can even deal with "crazy" unexpected events, and they're getting better at it all the time.

Never underestimate the power of computers. They will, very soon, be capable of any task a human can do, and do it better.

  • @smlifyrasor i would never trust it beside, what if you change your mind on the route you want to take or the place you want to go to? like i said, good for driving on the highway and that is it. plus i enjoy driving fast cars and buying this would be completely pointless, not to mention expensive

  • @Dem0nz890 You wouldn't trust something that can get you where your going, faster and safer? But you'll trust another human driver to transport you somewhere, as well as the hundreds of other human drivers you pass on the streets?

O_o.. Changing your destination would be as easy as asking the car.

And just watch, give it time, and it will get cheaper. Maybe someday people wont even own cars, they'll just "call" for a pickup from a self driving car, that can deliver itself to you.

  • @smlifyrasor no way man, coming from a car enthusiast it just sounds crazy to me, no doubt there are a few million people out there that should be shot before they get to turn the ignition on anything that goes faster than 1 mph but i would only like something like this for long distance driving, even then id probably want to sleep in the car but i could never trust my life like that to a machine, it just doesnt have true human reactions

  • Fail, I takes the fun out driving..... And Google & Toyota Have been working on this for years now............ BMW your so behind.....

  • Nice, but what happens when it unexpectedly fails? Dun dun duuun.. :O.

  • too bad bimmers breakdown every 3 seconds

  • I would only buy this if it had the option to turn it off. Great for commutes, but otherwise I want to have fun driving myself.

  • Idea: Border wars, automated driving mode edition

  • I naleti na gumu ili nesto na autoputu,on nastavlja i preko toga. Makar ti poginuo. Zajebi ovo,da mašini odlučuje umjesto tebe. Ne hvala.

  • Fun fun fun on the autobahn.

  • @demonik200 I drive a 98 Nissan which I've had since late high school when I began driving. Not the best car, but it gets me where I need to go which is enough for me. Was never that into cars, but as an engineer stuff like this fascinates me.

On the contrary though, I love driving, but only when it's on errands or doing stuff I don't do regularly. Back when I commuted to work I got so bored I'd nearly fall asleep half the time. For that I'd have loved this car.

  • So I can finally fall asleep at the wheel?

  • So, if the police pulls you over in a self driving BMW, who gets the ticket, you or BMW?

  • @UConnDeltaZ08 if the concept works you wouldn't get pulled over when the car was driving obviously since it follows all laws and speedlimits etc. Duh?! And for stuff like DUI you would obviously be responsible since the driver needs to be ready to take over at any time!

  • no turn signals?

  • The car that drives itself exists for over 50 years... it's called a TAXI.

  • This will save lives.

  • I support this for two reasons:

1 - ill never be able to afford a BMW so i dont need to worry about not driving it while in the driver seat.

2 - 1:54 IT ACTUALLY USES THE GOD DAMN TURN SIGNAL

If they tint the windows so i dont have to see the asshole driving it flipping me the bird even though he just cut me off, I full support this idea.

  • I like that this research is underway. It does not take away from the driving experience but does provide driving assistance when needed. It could be argued that ABS and traction control also interfere with driving but I think they have been accepted as the norm. This is obviously a test bed and what trickles out to production should be helpful, less intrusive and more informative......I hope.

  • Nette Spielerei, aber wo bleibt die "Freude am Fahren"? nein danke, auch in 20 jahren nicht...

  • I started using a very similar system decades ago... It's called "Hire a driver"...

  • Schrott !!

  • Who cares?

  • music?!?!?!

  • 高智能方程式 lol

  • Some here are so gelous but the point is that how far the BMW has gone and how successful they are. Simply because they are number one leading company with great success year after year ahead of everyone.

  • Schrott !

  • BMW lead, others follow

  • "Today, we are only voluntarily moving towards its own destruction. We are becoming lazy, ignorant and useless, because the technology replaces us in all directions, and provides a variety of meaningless entertainment. Also, we are moving towards a society where fewer and fewer real freedom, compared to which even "1984" Orwell did not seem a nightmare and a dream. Government becoming more and more control over the population".

    Varg Vikernes (musician, Count)

  • Everything fun is disappearing in this technology driven world !

  • Schrott !

  • @FASOaga69

Wieder eine Aussage ohne Argument oder Wissen. Typische Idioten...

  • So this cars removes the fun of driving, but doesn't relaxe you, because you constantly have to be ready to take over control?

If I didn't wanna drive, I'd take the train...

  • i dont think i like car because i like to drive myself,

  • Coming up next "The ultimate driving machine" become " The ultimate automated machine"

  • i dont think i like cars like this i like to drive by myself because i love driving but if your maken a trip thath 300 km long then its useful

  • humans are becoming useless..

  • @chrisluvjh haha well said!

  • @chrisluvjh becoming? Have you seen the world lately? Human's ARE useless.

  • i'd like to see this auto driving mode on traffic jam or bad weather

  • i'm agains self-driving cars. i want to drive by myself :(

  • the car must automatically sign when changing lines on the highway

    but is does 't ?????

  • so what are you supposed to do in the car if your not driving it? stop wasting money on crap like this spend it on making a DRIVING machine and maybe you can pass the savings along

  • Und wo ist dann noch die "Freude am Fahren"?

And where is then the "Sheer Driving Pleasure"?

  • Comment removed

  • Right now I got my BMW 3er serviced due to an electronic yet expensive problem. So my question is... innovation is good, but you sure to build innovation over high quality? There is no point in having a complex self driving system when the car could refuse to start just for a sensor/software glitch. We already have computers that does that, please let the car to be just driving pleasure

  • @00oBladeo00 Did the steering lock go out on you? lol

  • @cwhitty05

Exactly. For a stupid electronic glitch i have to spend a lot because BMW changes the whole steering column. And it's a widespread problem but, once out of warranty we're on our own.

I think BMW is too focused of showcasing how they can go ahead of other makers instead of backing up widely aknowledged problems. To me this is not innovation, is going backwards.

  • @00oBladeo00 You are definitely correct. I'm currently a technician at a dealership, and we see this problem often. Its almost as if BMW is trying to make things as complicated as can be. The glove box on the E70 X5 is a prime example. It has opposing magnets, a dedicated bus line, and all sorts of other feats of engineering, but it could have been done a lot simpler, and would probably be more robust. They do drive really great however, and the driving experience is a privilege.

  • @cwhitty05

I know. I'm Italian and yes, we like to drive fast... and a bit mad, and here for now the only option for a sporty RWD saloon is BMW.

I love how the car handles and it's engine, even if it's a 2.0 Diesel. That's why i got one. I only say, here we have the "myth" of the German Car as ultimate quality, and these known yet ignored big flaws are really out of place with the BMW Badge; yet i guess "badge" sells more than quality nowadays.

  • cool

  • please don't do this to the 3 series

  • I think its a great idea, don't get me wrong I love to drive my BMW but, in certain situations would be fantastic, loads of possibilities!!

  • Haters gonna hate, but its okay, they're gay!

  • The 3D on this sucks

  • No longer will I struggle to hold my piece in one hand and lighter in the other whilst driving.

  • wow. i would never buy one of these. so annoying

  • I can see how this would be useful in certain situations, but I would still prefer to drive the car myself most of the time.

  • I barely trust ppl driving their own cars, why the hell would I trust the car to do the work? Ppl are the ones to control cars, not the other way around. Oh, and everyone stop SOPA!

  • Don't know why so many people are against this. Have you not driven home from a long day at work? People fall asleep on the wheel. This can potentially help save lives on the road. Or what about all the drunk drivers, now they can have their own taxi. It's huge.

  • @hotsizzleakadafizz um ....if they fall asleep..number one its illegal ....and two the driver must be able to help the car....the car reacts to the road not other drivers

  • ummmm, iRobot much?

    super cool

  • Try a collab with google car

  • holy shit, now I can have sex with a girl on the backseat with 300 km/h :D

  • I am all for the pure driving, and can't stand even the parking assist, but as a principle, as a technology this is awesome stuff !

  • That takes the JOY out of driving!! No thanks!!

  • @292eur So if you love driving, then don't get it.

If, on the other hand, you are a terrible driver, or like 90% of people get bored as hell on the way to and from work along the same exact route every single day, this will keep you alive and/or from going insane.

I think it's a wonderful idea and I foresee every car in the developed world having these capabilities and more in a few decades.

  • @TanisHH I have a feeling you drive a econo box.

  • @292eur you got a thumbs up from me but you have to consider this a alternative to drunk driving or for a really long road trip.

  • @292eur Once these cars are good enough at driving, it should be ILLEGAL to drive manually. Most humans are not good enough or safe enough to drive.. Sure some think they are "pefect" at it, but most aren't..

Self driving cars WILL save lives, traffic accidents could be reduced to almost non-existent numbers. And jams will disapear! And that is nothing but a good thing. Screw your self-entitled feeling of "joy" from driving. Not at the cost of so many lives! It's not worth it AT ALL.

  • @smlifyrasor It's called Natural Selection.

  • @smlifyrasor That's cool and all, until you run into a software glitch and everyone crashed simutaniously.

  • @Serrimo Even so will be much less traffic accidents.

  • @Serrimo As opposed to the every-day constant threat of human error, which is a far more frequent and dangerous one, with human drivers.

If a computer car has an error, safeguards can simply bring the car to a stop, and alert other cars to watch out.

Also, manufacturers will have the added incentive of making these things as error-proof as possible, since THEY are the ones who will likely be sued in the event of accidents. They're likely to make it as rare an occurrence as possible.

  • @smlifyrasor Computers are made by man and humans make errors so computers can also make errors because they were created by beings which make errors.

  • @smlifyrasor the only thing i fear driving a BMW is it not starting or leaving me stranded in the middle of nowhere. Fuel pump FAIL for the FAIL..

  • Comment removed

  • @The4neesh, These cars WILL be capable of driving better/safer than any human. It doesn't even have to be "perfect", all it has to do is surpass human driving ability/safety, and the laws will change surprisingly rapidly. It's not my opinion, it's pretty much guarenteed. The public WILL demand such a change. Because the most dangerous things on the road will be human drivers.

If you want to start an argument, don't start nitpicking tiny spelling errors. Can't you do better? ;P

  • @The4neesh Don't be silly, who would need automated bicycles, that totally misses the point.

And he's not being a fascist, he's being a futurist. Nothing he's said is that far fetched at all. Although there will probably be plenty of resistance to making manual driving illegal, societies change, give it a generation. Someday our kids will think it absurd that we risked our lives on the roads each day.

In a decade, these will be high-end option features, a decade or 2 after, common.

  • @smlifyrasor

    Computers crash.

  • @smlifyrasor also, people can be drunk while the car drives itself!

  • @smlifyrasor While you do have some good points I would feel really sad if driving manually was illegal (I love driving). I would preffer if the computer didn't drive all the time, but took control if things got out off hands. I do see your points though, perhaps stricter driving tests should be introduced? I dunno.

  • @smlifyrasor You would make driving illegal even though the majority of cars will still be manually driven? The fact is that we are very close to self-driving cars, BMW and Google have proved that. It would be impossible to ban all the old cars, people just don't have the money to upgrade. This technology won't be cheap.

  • @uudo No, of course not. That would be impossible.

What I'm saying is, once these cars have been around long enough, and all new cars come with these features standard.. Which WILL happen, it wont be expensive forever, technology gets cheaper after time.. THEN the laws will start to change.

Most peoples' cars break down after 20 years max, because people don't maintain them properly. Eventually only obsessive care keeps them going.

Also, kits will be made, to install into older cars.

  • @uudo Once it becomes popular enough, expect automatic-only highways to eventually appear.

Eventually, manual driving will be a hobbyist activity, done on designated roads, or a farm and ranch thing.

  • @smlifyrasor I agree with you to a certain extent, but the concept you have proposed will not only destroy the automotive enthusiast and part of the purpose of private transportation, and ultimately stagnate growth in the automotive industry, but also (and most importantly) will extraordinarily facilitate the increasing level of incompetence of the human race as a whole. Yes, it will save lives, but only at the expense of basic human self-sufficiency, autonomy, and independence. #WALL-E

  • @thecubanratio1, Well maybe. And those could be problems we'll have to deal with someday.. But it's kinda impossible to stop such technological progress, based on those concerns. Yes, it will change industries, and alter how society sees certain things.. But that's not necessarilly a bad thing, just a change.

All technology on a whole, is moving in that direction, and it's hard to say what will happen. All we can be sure of, is that huge change will come, as technology advances.

  • @smlifyrasor Well what it comes to isn't a question of stopping the technological progress, but rather how we implement it. If you truly believe in making manual driving illegal, that only reinforces a rather tragic theme of technological innovation: making our lives easier, but neither better nor more fulfilling; making our lives logistically more efficient, but us ourselves more indolent and incompetent. If you still disagree, at least consider the quality of life, & not simply the quantity.

  • @thecubanratio1 I dono about you, but my quality of life would be greatly improved if I didn't have to focus on commuting to and from work for 2.5 hours a day. Heavy traffic is stressful, and stress is pretty bad for you.. Not to mention the risks to our lives, from both ourselves and others, on the road.

I can't see how life wouldn't be improved greatly by such a change. 2 extra hours to relax or work. Driving doesn't make us competent, and it going away wont hurt anyone..

  • @smlifyrasor While it's hard not to agree with you under the limitations of that particular context, your argument is still primarily based on logistical efficiency, both in terms of risk and time. My point is that such a dramatic shift towards external dependency would not only be riskier in the event of a crisis, but it would also slowly deteriorate one's individual ability to sustain oneself⎯if you force yourself to consider every implication of automated driving & similar automated. . .

  • @smlifyrasor . . .technology within the context of the fictitious futuristic society of ours it would exist in. & driving in it of itself is a competency, albeit not, when viewed individually, an essential one.

  • @smlifyrasor stop driving then you bellend

  • @smlifyrasor true if computer software are bugs free. unfortunately, that's as realistic as fiction especially when comes to sophisticated software. these systems in fact designed with the requirement for the driver to stay alert to take control anytime there is a need.

  • @undocumentedspot Well, that's a problem with present day software, sure. But these things improve with time. And self-driving cars, which lives depend on, will have redundant backup systems, that will take over in the event of a failure or issue.

The other possibility, in the not-so-distant future, intelligent software that "writes" other software, and bug tests it too. Something like this could potentially write far better systems for these things. But that's just a guess.

  • @smlifyrasor come on all of us programmers know that bug-free software won't ever happen in any near future.sure it will improve but over decades or centuries. or until we have perfect 100% bug free robot tested for many years that can write bug-free software on a perfect hardware. Until then the perfect backup for this system is for the driver to stay alert and ready to take control at anytime. I imagine how people gonna misuse the system, texting, sexting and playing farmville while in seat.

  • @smlifyrasor You know, life would be safer if it were illegal to leave your apartment to do anything other than go to work. We should legislate that people spend the weekends curled up in the fetal position in their bathrooms. Think of the LIVES we'd save if we did this! Leaving the house kills so many people! It's not worth it AT ALL!

  • @292eur There is no joy in driving in city traffic.

  • I have a passion for cars, but a have a stronger passion for driving, don't take that away from us.

  • ich würde das system schon nützen, wer will schon im stau fahren ?!

  • what does that 3D button do?!

  • Next test it in Finland when it snows 15 cm snow a day, dark, icy, freezing (up to below -30C), or sleet that freezes up, roads are not plowed fully, there might be snow piles here and there in cities, road signs covered with snow, and your car gets snowy too, people park their cars carelessly as they can't see the lots, elks bears wolfs and reindeers might jump to the road, ...

  • fucking amazing

  • Phantastische Kombination von Maschine, Roboter und menschlichen Freuden. Erstaunliche Technik.

  • Great idea to keep the driver safe but I would rather at least steer for myself.

  • Bin gespannt wann die Technik ausgereift ist und auf den Markt kommt, Super Technik !!!

  • BMW, the Ultimate Machine? It just doesn't make sense. I'll keep the driving for myself.
