  • Britain looked more like East Germany during the cold war in 1981.

  • if i have holidays planned, I would love to have a look around in Woolworths if it was still around

  • It seems to me that Woolworth was so much better than Crapmart.

  • I miss Woolworths :(

  • poor geff...just 30 years later and there is no woolworths

  • YOU CAN CRACK MY PRICES BB ;)

  • So you get more change cause the price of crack is down? LOL

  • Woolworths are shit cunts! I'd rather go to coles because it's cheaper and the products are better.

  • Sadly Woolworths failed to respond to market change and people did not really know what it stood for, it never specialised and that was it's biggest problem, offering something different from chains that copied Pic'n' Mix,CDs etc. Plus they had badly sited stores, and the leases were restrictive and the high street locations were old and it cost a fortune to modernise, remove asbestos etc, pushing up prices to the consumer.

  • He does a better job then any security guard.

  • he said Woolworth not woolworths lol

  • @jamiespinks1 He said Woolworth because that was what the store was called when this commercial was made. Originally the store was called "F.W Woolworth" then "Woolworth". People used to call it "Woolworths" in the same way many people call Tesco, "Tescos". Woolworth eventually changed their name to "Woolworths".

  • @FabFM yer I no I was just saying that cos,it sounded funny to me cos im used to the s this is y i sed lol at the end u c

  • @jamiespinks1 It's cool man, no need to explain, just thought u wanted to know why! lol

  • i remember buying the A-Team action Figures at Woolworth in the Ventura California store that was located Buenaventura mall which is now Pacific View Mall

  • HA HA! Look at that woman in the white wooly hat gawping at the camera!

  • He's really emphasising Woolworth when we always 'pluralised' it.

  • @oldmacisback It was branded Woolworth until about 1986...infact they'd only just dropped the F.W. at this point!

  • Awesome cheesy advert, double useage of the word "change" is very droll!

  • looks like he's just been dug up

  • You'll love the change? wow what genius marketing I mean you can't get change anywhere

  • Creepy, he looks like an anorexic Jim Bowen. :D

  • i can totally see that guy grabbing the woman's money and running out of the store, lol!!

  • HAHA, wow, yeah he looks like hes scoping out his next victim.

I love the awkward exchage at 0:21. Cashier giving back the womans change, "Mr. Bean" shares the 12 cents with the woman. In 2009, he would receive a serious beatdown and a ton of f'bombs from the woman thinking the oddball was stealing her money.

  • He looks like a serial killer

  • @blackpoolprince Don't know about serial killer, but he certainly looks like he wouldn't take any s*ite from anybody, don't f*ck wit da man!

  • @blackpoolprince ah no he's scottish

  • @wendyokoopa2343 The guy in the advert? Um...sounds Yorkshire to me. :-/

  • He looks like the Bernie Madoff Bank Scamming type!

  • woolworths are the biggest ripoffs and scammers in the world

  • @Ecka0007 What crap, I guess you've never heard of WH Smiths, where a bottle of water costs £1.50!

  • @TomTresh3 Water should be free. Water comes from natural springs/god. Do you know what I mean?

  • @Ecka0007 I can guess. Nevertheless, £1.50 for water is a Rip off!

  • @TomTresh3 ...and I agree.

  • He looks like Shaw Taylor off Police 5. Probably looking out for pick n mix thieves. "Keep 'em Peeled"

  • "Wearing Woolies tights over their heads, they proceeded down the Pick 'n' Mix aisle, then past the checkout without paying." Heh heh.

  • He sounds like he is adverstising Shackletons high seat chair! Also why did they choose an "American Style" jingle at the end for a British Store? Maybe that was the sort of "crazy" thing that happened in 1981 ?? :-)

  • Woolworths was an american company, this 1981 advert is for both the US and British stores, Geoffrey Rodgers was american and CEO of the woolworth company, the british stores did not seperate from their american parent until 1983!

  • i swear that it as 1997??

  • No, it was in 1983 when Kingfisher bought the UK stores from the American company.

  • great hoagie sandwich nd pizza slices at woolworth .Does anyone have hoagie or pizza recipes.

  • @TAXENGINEER I remember that the Woolworth's at Crossroads Mall in Omaha had great hoagie sandwiches and pizza slices. The closest I can get to duplicating the hoagies is to buy a "Cold Cut Combo" at Subway and I get it with extra cheese (white American). I put my own sweet yellow onion on the sandwich when I get home. I get only tomatoes on my sandwich and sometimes I even wait and do that when I get home, also sometimes I like lettuce on the sandwich, sometimes not. Hope this helps!

  • @chgilroy1 I think JIMMY johns white bread is like ww bread but I cant wait to try your suggestion. Thanks in advance.

  • Sounds like Walmart...

  • The whole concept of wal-mart is based on woolworth and their strategy over the years. Ironically, it was Wal-mart that forced woolies out of business in the US many moons ago. Now the UK chain will close too.

  • woolies was just so british :D and i blame Tesco

  • crack down prices ? sounds very 80s to me !

  • Yeah, what has a naked girl and a moterbike got to do with this add?

  • um what change

  • um.. the crack down prices?
