Not exactly, the first missile with nuclear warhead was the PGM-11 Redstone designed by Wernher von Braun. Atlas just entered service a few months before Redstone.

ahh... the cold war. SO many new technologies that were (thankfully) never used..

This was the 1st of two Atlases flown 9,000 miles in 1960 -

well beyond the designed range of 5500 miles. Atlases do

not explode on re-entry.
