Marty Barrett would be a nice 2nd Baseman; Big Papi instead of Vaughn by far; agree with everyone who puts Schilling or Martinez instead of Clemens No one before the so-called Bambino curse?....duh....;
Jimmie Foxx at first base or DH at least. One of the greatest ever. Foxx was Mickey Mantle before Mickey Mantle. He could hit for power, ran like a deer, one of the smartest baserunners ever, hit for high average, played 7 positions at one time or another in his pro career. Tris Speaker in the outfield one of the greatest center fielders and hitters ever.
I'd swith Evans and Rice or Williams. Rice and the Splendid Splinter were great hitters but liabilities in the field. Evans on the other hand was a great defensive outfielder with a cannon for an arm. He made a fantastic catch in game 6 (some consider it the greatest game ever) of the 75 World Series.
I would put Dewey in right and Williams or Rice at DH. Evans was a much better fielder than Rice or Williams. Yaz was the Man in left field, especially at Fenway- way better in the field than Williams.
We have a log jam in the outfield because of all the Red Sox great ones, hard to leave out Fred Lynn, wasnt he the only rookie of the year and MVP? Manny should be in there somewhere and hopefully we will be considering Ellsberry in a few years. Mo Vaughn was pretty good but I would also consider Cooper and Big Papi. Varitek is high on my list for roughing up A-Fraud but it is correct with Carlton Fisk. Who can ever forget that home run in 1975? I agree Cy Young or Pedro over Roger.
God rest "The Splendid Splinter", but where do you put Fred Lynn in that roster?
My Choice would have been Yastrzemski in Left Field, Fred Lynn in Center Field, and Jim Rice in Right Field. I have always loved Dwight Evans, "Dewey" was the institution of the Red Sox. But in a few years, you will want to choose Big Papi(David Ortiz) for DH.
Mo Vaughn for First Base? Are you kidding?! I would have picked either George Scott or Cecil Cooper over that Asshole for First Base.
Even Pedro Martinez was a better choice than Roger Clemens! Or maybe Curt Schilling in his short time with the Red Sox. Without Curt Schilling, the Red Sox would still be hearing "1918" from those Other Baseball Fans today.
@OPSportsInc I would pick Pedro Martinez or Curt Schilling over Roger Clemens anytime! Curt is the main reason why we won in 2004 and 2007. CURT WAS WORTH EVERY SCHILLING!
WHERE IS PAPI!?!?!

Best hitter is supposed to be #4 the clean-up hitter to clear the bases of a 3 RBI double

Roger Clemens is now "Sac-religious" in Boston!
Cy Young was the obvious choice for best Red Sox Pitcher. If not, I would have picked Pedro Martinez over Roger Clemens for best Red Sox Pitcher.

Dewey goes to right, Rice at DH, otherwise seems about right.

IMO:
LF - Williams or Yaz (with the other at DH)
CF - Speaker
RF - Dewey

Hey your best hitter is normally the 3 hitter, you have him at 4 hitter.
joesteffenhagen 2 years ago
Wow, a Sox tribute that actually includes Dewey!
EeVvAaNn3 2 years ago
He should be in the Hall of Fame in my personal opinion. And his number 24 should be retired. But for some odd reason...it's not.
OPSportsInc 2 years ago
Yes, and yes. I would have voted for Dewey before Rice.
EeVvAaNn3 2 years ago
@OPSportsInc Dewey had the best arm in right field for his entire career. He should be starting right fielder with Jim Rice at DH

Roger isn't a very popular cat right now. And Cy Young has 511 career wins in a mostly dead ball era. I chose Roger by a small margin.
