  • what is a looping pedal? yes she is off key. a lot. Oh well. she could always have refused to post.

  • Make it stop. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!! My kitty sounds better throwing up.

  • This instrument would lend itself quite well to quartertone and microtonal music for those who wish to go beyond the traditional 12 semitone western chromatic scale.

  • As you can see, she is having some trouble getting the right note initially. The Theremin is extremely sensitive to the conditions around it, and Pam is simply not in her rehersal space right now. She is on stage, therefore surrounded by recording equipment which gives off a lot of EM interference, and I doubt she had time to properly tune the instrument during this demonstration. Reguardless, once she gets going is starts sounding quite amazing.

  • She could chose another instrument...

  • Theremin off-key

  • But will it blend?

  • @TriadOfCourage OH WHAT AN AWFUL THING TO ASK!!!!

    But now I'm really curious...

  • Not a bad attempt! I liked it!

Be certain to post the full if/when you get it done. I'll race you, I still need to build my electric violin. Sure I could do it on my acoustics one and plug a pick up up to it, but where's the fun in that?

  • People commenting here obviously don't know how difficult it is to play a theremin.

  • @boognishishere ever tried violin? :p no, i've seen her in other vids and she can do miracles!

  • If she hadn't said "I messed up" and just continued on...it would've been fine. Worst thing you can do!

  • :/ is this some kids recital? I was hoping for the whole thing done well

  • @brudswick You should demand your money back.

  • I love the I idea. Please make it work.

  • @RagingBubuli agreedthat would so8nd the dogs nuts if she could get it down what a great music making device

  • messed up bad

  • This isn't Canon in D, but Canon in Sucks..

    Cool baroque music though

  • Damn. She sucks. hahah . thats funny

  • lol. She just said fuck it i messed up.

  • ...not good

  • Sounds like disgruntled livestock

  • you get the same effect by force feeding a cat soap and squeezing it

  • that was ..interesting. ambitious but didnt quite get there.

And one of the first rules you learn in performing is not to apologize or say you messed up. Usually the audience hasnt noticed, and you just seem weaker when you admit it.

  • that was reminiscent of Canon in D....not that great.

  • Theremin is a hard instrument to hold a steady note with, much harder than strings without stops.

  • Wow,

  • What a disappointment for someone of her reputation.

  • It's a cool song, too bad the recording mic on this sucked hard though. The recording over-amped quite a bit. But aside from that, very awesome!

  • I like the tone of that theremin, it's really deep and smooth.

The theremin is a unique instrument played without physical contact. It uses fields to sense the position of your hands in relation to two antennae. Right hand controls pitch, left hand controls volume. It's really hard to play.

  • Chill, dude, people were asking what it was. So I explained it. o.o

  • hahaha

  • omg wtf is wrong with u are u on steroids or what

  • hey guys ive been watching all these videos and i have one question: what's a thermin?

  • its an instrument that plays music based on hand positions. correct me if im wrong.

    it reminds me of Wii+synthesizer

    lol

  • the cello is flat by a ton you seem to be fine but the cello is so god damn flat it kinda ruins it

  • I agree, it hurt to listen too. This is a really awesome instrument though!

  • supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

  • absolutely incredible

  • awesome

  • Are there theremins for left handed?

  • just turn it around

  • @ransomdave she's left handed ransomdave ... I have the same issue when I play, the setup is for right handed people

  • @cowpooca That's like saying a left-handed person can't play the guitar as well because it's not set up for them. Figure it out, every other instrument can be played by either handed person. This, unfortunately, is just a bad rendition of Canon. Maybe just an "off" day for the performer?

  • @reedo1703 No reedo1703, I'm not saying that at all. I'm left handed and play numerous instruments. The theremin is so incredibly exact though, I need to use my left hand otherwise I'm too sloppy.

  • lolzorz :D

  • check out user name ooo6, his videos are amazing on the theremin. he even does faure, and rachmaninoff. the instrument isn't only good for horror movies. it's a beautiful instrument if played right

  • shes good, but she makes some mistakes. cant blame her tho. this must b reeealy hard..

  • Uh...nice try?

  • i guess that is more difficult than playing cello or guitar or piano. maybe it is more beautiful but i prefer the guitar , guitar is easy, magic and beautiful but i admit theremin is awsome, maybe one day i´ll give it a try

  • Nice vid, theromones are awesome! :D

    @Soundunderwater

Are you crazy? The guitar easy? What kinda guitar do you play? :S

I'm studying classical guitar and I can say it's very difficult to master all the techniques. Sure you can play some random chords if you like but that'll get you nowhere. You know that the guitar was the only instrument for which you didn't had to pick an extra instrument at the music acadamy because of the skill needed to play such an instrument?

  • aww, she's so cute.

  • the eighth note you're playing is too deep, twice, makes it sound a littly faulty

  • dang she didnt play the good part of the song -.-"

  • the part about the moosebumps?

  • that was like my first piece on the cello.

    lmfao.

  • dude that's awesome! anyone inspired to take up playing the theremin can win one at theunusualtimes. net!

  • it's the same concept as adjusting a TV antenna you have a stronger signal depending on where you stand but it works the same with your hands.

right hand covers pitch the closer you move it to the antenna the high the pitch farther it goes the lower the tone

the left hand is your volume and the decider of what type of note your playing depends on how your hand moves.....

thats about what I got out of it

  • i dont get how this thing works

  • It uses magnetic fields, which you both emit and manipulate with your body.

When you move your hands you distort the field and thus affect the sound. One hand for pitch the other for volume.

  • Wrong. Your body acts as a capacitor with regard to the antennas in which change the frequency of 2 oscillators. The resultant of the 2 oscillators inside is what is heard from the instrument.

If it was magnetic fields your body would have to be made up of magnetic metal(nickel, cobalt or iron....yes your body has those elements in them but not enough to affect a magnetic field)

  • I DONT GET IT!!! how does it work??? it almost seems impossible.. but quite obviously it isnt,...

  • let's see you do better?

  • So true!! Isn't strange how some criticize who've probably never made the effort themselves?!!

  • "Pamelia Kurstin demonstrates using a LOOPING PEDAL" you stupid dildo...

  • you werent poking fun you joke, you didn't even know what was happening n00b

  • It's an instrument just like any other.

Maybe you should read up a little more on the Theremin.

  • She is also left handed playing on a Theremin meant for right handed people. That alone can throw even a skilled Thereminist off.

  • I want to hear a full version of this.

  • I've always thought a theremin is cool. But this is way cooler.

  • That's not her Theremin, she's left handed so she was having to play it backwards, and probably without practice, so that was very awkward for her no doubt. That she played as well as she did under the circumstances is practically a miracle and a testament to extraordinary skill.

  • actually, look closer. she's playing the instrument backwards, so it would fit her left handed-ness. the reason for the beginning being out of tune is how impossible it is to play low notes

  • needs more vibrato! vibrato can hide small imperfections in pitch, plus it adds alot of emotion.

  • amen. it makes playing theremin much easier

  • y this was maarked as spam, idont no

  • work on it love!!!

  • very cool for such a freeeky instrument, dontchathink??

  • she's good in the soprano range. needs a bit more work in the bass. cool idea with the loops

  • It's a tough instrument to play in pitch - how does one "feel" where they are on the instrument? Nice work, I tried playing one and couldn't even make a simple interval.

  • perfect pitch helps. if not, though, you can feel higher and lower, obviously. takes practice i'm sure. i'm trying to buy one.

  • what i would do is make a board that is marked like a piano and place it where the pitch hand is, so you can see where the large intervals are. i've never played a theremin, but its just an idea i had.

  • Friggin rawesome!

  • that wasnt messin up, that was kickin ass
