  • Nothing but pure Class and Sophistication. If these haters would just let our people be dignified like they USE TO BE. But there goes dollar, sad. Surley we must rise again. This is why I constantly teach my children about how classy black entertainers used to be when performing on stage, as in business look, professional acts, black people taking care of business, representing black people very good in a class of Genius people. Neat, Clean, Intelligent, and BEAUTIFUL SMART GODLY PEOPLE.

  • @morgothI95 wow so your saying white people can't sing r and b just because they are white?

  • Elton John??????? who knew

  • @Lovetheskorpionshow Years ago, I think Mary J. Blige sampled "Bennie and the Jets." I can't remember which song though. But some of his songs clearly reached black folks.

  • Marys song was Deep Inside, a really great song! I love to see artist of certain genres crossover to different audiences. Or even actors; like when Ben Stiller, Jimmy Fallon, Jack Black, and Bruce Willis were on 106 n Park. Or having lil Wayne on the view:)

  • also she sung this ONSTAGE with elton on a award show and also during some of special concert performaces which is strange becasue elton dont perfom with new artist or black female, but then again this is the same person that says american idol is rasicist so elton gives all the props from me..says uzipolo king of decatur

  • there was ALOT of white performers in the 70's and A WHOLE LOT of WHITE MUSIC played in the mid/late 80's the good thing is that half of that acts performed sang live i guess don had a vision or a ear for this type of artist that had that blue eyed soul quality and knew great music if it starred him in the face i remember when herb albert was on there and gino vanelli(especially him i think he was the only ones that did not shocase the soul train banner /lights in the background)

  • Were Hall &Oats ever on Soul Train? When you talk about blue-eyed soul, you cant forget the homies from Philly:) Soul Train and Showtime at the Apollo is what's missing in popular culture today:( TRL is over, American Idols fake and 106 blows. I hate that theres no more American Bandstand or Star Search.

  • @love yes actually they were on there more than once i think soul train and midnight special were the best on midnight YOU HAD TO have talent..or else alot of copy cat shows came after them american bandstand wasnt no joke either though im still looking to see if boz scaggs or bobby caldwell were on soul train says uzipolo king of decatur

  • Bennie and The Jets was played on a black radio station in Chicago first before it became a Pop hit.

  • teh punchline is this...eveyone thought he was black before they saw his face thom bell also tried to produce his albulm in the seventies but elton said it did not live up to his expectaions but he did come out with 2 singles out the effrort from tsop/gamble/huff i belive and one of them became a black signiture called"money cant buy you love" there were ALOT of white perfomers on soul train the AWB and gino vanelli were one of the favorite performances says uzipolo king of decatur

  • man, these were classic moments of Soul Train, memories

  • To Buford Stone I also remembered when Elton John was on Soul Train singing Philadelphia Freedom (he was also the 1st white person to perform on Soul Train).I was a kid and we all bugged out when we saw it,but Elton was tearing it up back then.

  • @missayawk naw gino vanelli was bfore elton john. was first probably the first brit but not the first white one

  • I will always miss MJ's smile.

  • Soul Train was a part of my growing up in the seventies

  • Damn! Look at Al Sharpton @ 0:25

  • i know, right!!

  • I remember when Elton John was on he sang "Philadelphia Freedom".

  • So very CUTE! Don and the Tempts. Couldn't help but laugh at that, and smile at Michael:)

  • michael :( <3

  • Nice, Nice!!!

Brazilian love soul train and music black!!

Hail Montow, hail Michael, Temptations, supremes =)

    GOod, GOODDDDD

  • elton john was the first white man on soul train i remember when the cut bennnie and the jets came out....

  • Motown Saves!!!!

  • JESUS SAVES:)!!!!!!!!!!

    LOVE

  • REV AL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • for real. i downloaded immediately when i saw Mr. Sharpton!!

  • Just goes to show the absolute carnage rap music has done to black music. If these stars came out today you would never ever hear of them because of raps vice like grip over the industry. James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Smokey, The Jacksons would all be ignored over absolute schmucks like Kanye West even though Kanye doesn`t have 1/10000000th the amount of talent that those guys had.. Rap has got to end man, it is has done so much damage to every aspect to the black community for far too long.

  • I agree with you 100%. Can you imagine what the music industry would be like if they never had rap. We would still have so many soul artist being played on the radio and TV. I may get thumbs down, but I dont' care! Soul Train ratings dropped because they lost their soul. i wish there was a soul show on now that only featured Soul Artist of today and yesterday. These artist arent dead and they would still be selling if they had an outlet. (Skyy, Bar-Kays, Confunkshun) and so many more.

  • @verbatimmags Rap didnt kill the industry, the industy killed itself................Even if you took away rap there would still be SOMETHING to tear down the business..........Hell hip hop is apart of EVERY aspect pf american society today, to take it away would be to take the backbone of america away

  • @verbatimmags i have to disagree. im not even that big of a mainstream current hip hop fan but hip hop's roots are in soul. it has a soul. gives a voice to black ppl just like james brown, marvin gaye and other soul singers did for the previous generation

  • Wow, you and verbatimmags are RIGHT! I hadn't thought of that before. Rap truly has pushed GOOD soul music aside. SAD.

  • What about Kurtis Blow? He wasn't doing half of that crap you mentioned.

What about Whodini? Are they bad because they , The Fat Boys, and Kurtis Blow are rappers?

Don't generalize every rapper. Because that's what you're doing.

  • @JackHauss wth theres positive rap music

  • @JackHauss I would almost agree. I'd blame the record companies for trying to push what's safe and guaranteed to SELL rather then create a product that has STAYING power. Combined with the fact that record companies and other commercial product companies are realizing that music can be used to sell things, you can see where the music is largely becoming.

Damn what I wouldn't give for the 80s and early 90s.

  • Comment removed

  • @busasimba nothing can stand up to 70s music so please

    shut up

  • @JackHauss 10-4 TO DAT, RAPPER GO DA FUCK A WAY BRING BACK 70S MUSIC AND SOULTRAIN

  • @JackHauss Tell Clear Channel. They own and operate most of the radio stations in The U.S. They dictate what you hear, and determine what gets played and what doesn't . They are responsible for all of this Rap / Hip-Hop nonsense. They have issued orders to their member stations not to play true R&B anymore.

  • @JackHauss this is a lie perpetuated by the media to make us believe the worst about our own ppl. like i said to the commenter below you, i am not even that big of a hip hop (current) fan but there is all kinds of different rap. the media outlets only want u to see certain things. i believe hip hop is a service and vessel for the black community

  • Nice moments.. Wish I could have lived that ERA!

  • :) me too
