  • USA. All the way yeah USA

  • I love it. Women can work ice cube trays but not a complicated machine like a car.

  • Looks like batmobile kinda

  • Ben Smith was the engineer who designed this system when he started working for Ford in 1957. He gets the credit for this fine mechanical design that was quite ahead of its time. Its operated by linkages driven by electric motors. There are NO hydraulics which is contrary to popular belief.

  • what if you forget that you left something in the trunk and you put the top down

    CRUSH

  • The roof sounds like an airplane taking off.

  • wow, so easy even a woman can do it... I thought the only thing they were good for was taking ice cubes out of the refrigerator.

  • LOL it's soooo slow

  • Awesome car! Funny noise! Indeed like a jetplane lol

  • That's a beautiful car and much better looking than today's look-alike bubble cars which get worse gas mileage than those did. My dad's 58 Plymouth got around 35 MPG!

  • Comment removed

  • "Honey, you can take ice cubes out of a fridge, but..." heh She should have told him what he could do with those ice cubes....

  • Is a jet plane taking off?

  • the roof takes about 2 yrs... -.-

  • The top made so much noise I swear the car was gonna take off into orbit.

  • needed WD 40 when the roof was raised

  • GAS GUZZLEING AL GORE WOULD HATE THIS! LOL!

  • @ChrisVaughn85 - nope, most of those old v-8s got as good if not better MPG as today's

  • @STEPcoach Wow did not know that!

  • Nice car, but I'd rather have a regular softtop convertible. At least I can put my groceries in the trunk with the top down! lol

  • @sexysagi thats because your probaly a dum blonde and have no clue what these cars are all about, bet ya love those jap imports dont ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @whokeithmoon for your information I'm not a dumb blonde and have plenty knowledge of these cars; when the mechansisms on these cars broke they were extremely expensive to repair and sales back then weren't the highest. Now put that in your pipe and smoke it!!

  • Lucy and the car were gorgeous!!! I don't get the sexist part...I just consider it men being men. Do you really think for one second Lucy ever considered herself subservient? Purrleez. Men still make the same comments as they did back then. Women still roll their eyes and go on going on. People have lost their sense of humor over the years. Ears constantly pricked up to detect the slightest thing one can be insulted about.

  • It sounds like its ready for take off

  • slow as fuck, loud as fuck but why havnt they changed???

  • kiss your trunk space goodbye

  • lolololol ahahaha! That's so cute.

  • Reminds me of fallout.

  • It makes more noise than a 747.

  • @chanctonbury63 yeah, and it is a nightmare of relays, switches and motors.....and when the top is down and in the trunk there is hardly any room to carry anything with the exception of a tooth brush and some breath mints

  • @inkey2 Nothing has changed. I went to look at an SL Merc yesterday. I had to ask the salesman 4 times to open the boot/trunk when the roof was down. When he finally did I could see why. There was about enough room for a shoe in there.

  • Watch that hat, Lucy!!

  • thats Desi Arnaz, Lucy's husband

  • he actually mumbled the first few words , Then he asked the guy how much he wanted for the car. Cash Right now!

  • yea but, a man built it, and men maintain it, enuf said

  • @hemet92544 That's kinda sexist of you, I'm a woman and I can change the oil in my car, the tires and I custom pained it all by myself. Not all women, are scared little things who stand in the kitchen =/

  • An hour later... the top finally went down.

  • It's hard to say which has advanced further over the years... car making? Or advertising?

  • that was some great tech for that time

  • I wonder how many head injuries there were.

  • Back when people had enough money to buy cars and gas in this country!

  • hmmm lets all go flip off the hard top hahahahaha FLIP OFF oh and thats from the dvd collection my mom got on collection its on it i love lucy no really do love her.

  • I love how it took like forever for the roof to come out. still nice though

  • i want that car

  • what a awesome car, the retractible tardtop function alone must have had it`s own battery to operate it. it looks like it took alot of juice just to make it work.

  • So can anyone translate what Desi said in Spanish?

  • When I was stationed in Fort Sill near Lawton Oklahoma in the Army -

There was a used car dealer who had one of these out on the corner-

For $25.00 he would let you sit in the car and open the roof ....

He made a lot of money on that scam ...

  • I wondered why it had such a long trunk, Because that top was inside, and yes it did make a LOUD sound.

  • wow no trunk space

  • It's Lucy and Desi, Lucy fouling up things again...lol

Nice care for that time and I would have loved to own it if I was around then.

Something James Bond would use himself.

  • What does Lucy need a roof for? Her hat was certainly big enough.

  • Why dont they make cars like this anymore ?

  • I WANT ONE!!!!

  • super racist and sexist, the 50's were scandalous!!!

  • @denniedoll: i get the SLIGHT hint of sexism... but where is the racism? showing a spanish person speaking spanish? thats racist? hmmm....

  • @squirrelnutcased the ricki ricardo as in the TV show I Love Lucy....

  • the only dam problem is the price of gaz lol and todays cars suck unless u have a big wallet your getting 4 banger performance lol

  • wow we had this 52 years ago and it took us this long to get hardtops back again

  • I love the horrendous loud noise the roof made

  • @hottopic007 theres like 6 electric motors moving that thing.

  • That is one sweet ride.

  • The big problem with retractables (both then and now) is that you have almost no trunk space with the top down. The Cadillac XLR, for example, will barely hold a 24" duffle bag with the top down. Give me a good old fashioned RAG top over a retractable any day of the week and twice on Sundays!!!!

  • I'm British and would of loved to grow up in 50' America. The cars look great and a lot nicer than todays cars.

  • hey dy9294, i was raised in the 50's and it was a hell of a lot of fun. i had 1 sister and 2 brothers. my parents didn't make a lot of money, but they owned a home here in new england, and we never wanted for anything. tv was a special treat too. especially robin hood with richard greene...remember him. one of my favorite programs.

    happy trails to you, friend.

  • they are proably worth 200 dollars they suck and ugly

  • try 30,000 to 50,000

  • ya just like your mom lol

  • Excellent. I love Lucy and Desi. That's a FINE looking convertable, better than todays plastic cars. I'd rather have a car from the 60's or 70's.

  • I wonder how much Ford payed them to do this back then...I mean they were the highest payed actors on tv back then...had to be millions!!

  • What a great classic Ford, this has to be one of the all time classic ad demonstrations -

Peugeot had a hard top convertible around 1936

Not like this one though - Gene

  • i wonder how much those are worth now

  • I remember those fords. The roof really leaked bad when it rained. But that model was only in production for like one year.

  • Actually they were built from 1957-1959. Not only did the roofs leak, but they also had problems with both the hydraulics and the electric components. I still remember my mom's '58 went bad after a couple of years.

  • Actually, they were in production from 1957-1959, 3 yr..but they were problematic and cost about 20% more than the ragtop model so the ragtop sold much better..the 50s driving environment was much different than now..slower speeds, more open country roads, little traffic congestion or smog, lower crime so noone cared about a convertible's disadvantages..retractables are popular now as everyone wants the best of both worlds and will pay for it..foriegn designs are more reliable; US designs less so

  • What made Desi Arnaz cringe when he saw his wife naked? Lucille's Balls.

  • fun commercial

  • i hated how women were treated in the 50's but its a gud commerial

  • the only person who ever looked good in the back of a convertible was Hitler. Everyone else just looks windswept.

  • funny voice the man has

  • good car
