I like to test peoples reactions (usually theists). If someone is cool I'm cool but if they freak out I just eat them alive like a shark. No one ever bothers me I'm a cool person I just have a habit I love to see theists make lies and see how far they twist. It makes me feel better for myself and it's cheaper than driving to walmart to stare at all the weird people freak show.
I think you hit the nail on the proverbial head, bro. Our reactions to certain insults or slurs give them power over us. If we wouldn't react or get so offended they would be powerless. I've been called just about everything out there but I don't let it get to me because in the end they're just words. That being said, I still encourage people to face their bullies and fight back. You don't have to stoop to their level to fight back though.
sorry dan! Im really upset right now. Not with you, just people who are asleep to what is going on as a result of the "government" they feel they are free to elect.
"freedumb & dumbocracy" is a LIE!
Only a fool could think 3,500 deaths on 9/11 could be avenged with close to 1 million deaths in the middle east.
REVOLUTION TIME FOLKS! These mother fuckers have to go!
It is true, people are effected by words as you describe. Once upon a time i did, often!
What IS making me "mad" right now is the fog that most "patriotic" americans are at the news that that "nasty, evil" man has been killed, and they are outside the WH cheering and celebrating !
they fail to notice that the US is still in afghanistan and Iraq, and will NEVER leave. But thats ok..Osamas dead right? SHEEP!
I loved the story of Buddha and the king. The only way others gain power over you is by allowing them to do it. When we are angry, our thinking becomes clouded by emotion and we are often unable to rationalize clearly. Learn to stand your ground and ignore the people who seek to dominate and enslave you. Meditation is a key which can be used for opening your mind to personal reality. Like everything else in life, self-control requires discipline and practice to achieve. Peace my friends.
It is a choice whether to be hurt or upset by something negative someone says; people do not realize this. It is not easy to let go of this hurt though, so there does not seem to be a choice. This is the ego holding on and fighting the real you. The problem is that most people do not realize there is an ego and that there is a choice. But once you do you are on the right path. It takes time to let go of hurt and be okay with it, because the ego holds on. I'm still on the path, but I realize now.
You are also right, Dan, that when people hear these bad words they take it personally (the "me", the ego is offended, not the real you). It's like the saying, "my pride is hurt". It's not your pride that is hurt, but your ego. There is no pride, only ego.
I find that people use these negatives words to lash out because of bad feelings they have in themselves; they then feel belittled, powerless and small. This creates a vicious cycle. They feel power when they can use a negative word to hurt someone else and they do so to feel big again. There is a quote about something similar on my channel. How fear breads weakness and the only thing people have left is violence to make them feel they have some power.
ZeroGov got it exactly right .. add to that .. people can really benefit .. really benefit .. from watching this video, especially when they think they are having a "bad" day, because of something or someone outside themselves.
Interesting stuff. One of the reasons calling names affects some so much may be that they subconsciously believe the one insulting them to be right. If we are honest with ourselves, nothing can really hurt us.
"Do not feed the trolls" crystallizes your advice at around 9:10 perfectly :)

This reminds me of a saying I read; it roughly goes like this:
"Others may shoot arrows at me, but in the end it's me who puts up the target or not."

Albert Ellis's "Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy" (REBT) uses very similar strategies with regard to adjusting one's thinking.
