  • The down-circle strike of Krav Maga's 360 defense takes care of centerline attacks.

    jabs,punches, etc.

  • I DON'T USALLY INDULGE IN THIS CRAP, BECAUSE I'M TO BUSY TRAINING IN KRAV AND SPENDING TIME WITH MY FAMILY. HOWEVER, I FOUND YOUR ORIGINAL COMMENT SO STUPID THAT I FELT OBLIGED. I AM NOT JEWISH, BUT I FIND THE STORY OF KRAV INSPIRING. IF, I WAS AROUND YOU, YOU STUPID, RACIST IDIOT I WOULD KNOCK YOUR FUCKING HEAD OFF. DON'T EXPECT A REPLY FROM THE STUPID TWISTED DRIVEL THAT YOU REPLY WITH. GOOD DAY SIR!!! HA!!

  • Are there videos of Krav Maga people blocking straighter punches?

  • @CrowdPleeza

Idk as I haven't practiced Krav Maga myself. But from what it looks like this technique keeps your arms in a position where you can still protect blows to both your face, chest, and stomach. What I'm curious is how this fares against leg strikes rather than straight blows.

  • does this defence work on kick?

  • its ok but i like eskrima much better

  • LET'S SEE YOU TAKE ELEMENTS FROM CHINESE WING CHUN AND BRUCE LEE'S JEET KUNE DO ANDIT BECOMES 'krav maga'? GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE! FUCKING THIEVING WIZARDS!

  • @GREENLIGHT324 What else have the Jooz ever done except steal other peoples stuff?

  • @GREENLIGHT324 krav maga takes the best from every marcial art

  • THIS IS ABSOLUTE PURE ISRAELI BULLSHIT! KRAV MAGA HAS ALL THE ELEMENTS OF THE "MACARENA ' AND SOME SLAPSTICK GARBAGE. FUCKERS WOULD MARKET THEIR MOTHERS TO DO THIS SHIT.

  • @GREENLIGHT324 YOUR A FUCKING IDIOT>

  • @tufnellable YEAH OBVIOUSLY THE TRUTH HURTS FUCK FACE. WAS IT THE 'KRAV MAGA' OR THE THIEVING 'JEW' COMMENT THAT GOT YOUR SMELLY ASS ALL DRIPPING? IT'S BULLSHIT THEY'RE TRYING TO MARKET. BUT GET THIS, NO ONE'S BUYING THE CRAP. GO SUCK ON A MATZA BALL OR WHATEVER YOU CALL THOSE DISGUSTING TREATS..SHIT FOR BRAINS...

  • I wnt from longboarding videos to gun shooting videos to nipple piercing videos to this video. WTF happened.

  • Dragon ball z...

  • I'm a Krav Maga student, and there seems to be some misunderstandings about this move in the video description and the comments. The point is not to engage in a slapping match with your opponent, but rather to block any incoming circular attack with one arm and then simultaneously counter attack with the other. This strike will naturally not be very powerful, but it gives you an opening to start some devastating elbow or knee strikes on your assailant.

  • @sZ1mm Yeah! Well I would look to Wing Chun or Kali for simultaneous defense and attack techniques aka trapping. That seems to be where Krav is getting its inspiration from these days anyway. Along with JKD of course (esp. Guru Dan Inosanto and Sifu Paul Vunak).

  • If well trained, it is a very useful defense. Extra reflexes are always good to have. Also it's good that you don't waste stamina while defending, since you're just redirecting opponents attacks, using his own energy against him. Your opponent wastes his stamina, and he might even lose balance, then it's a good time to attack. Kicks can be blocked as well, but catching a kick and totally throwing an enemy out of balance is better.

  • 360 degree defenses in Krav Maga is just a fancy term to describe inside and outside defenses [outside is when defending away from attacker's body and inside is when defending into the attacker's body]. and when doing outside defenses your hands should always be thumb down. not to the side. not up. thumbs down so as to defend using the inside of your forearm.

  • @ksdp44

Completely wrong - 360 defense is only used against circular outside attacks. Inside defences in Krav Maga are entirely different and involve a redirection of the enemy's attack combined with a sideways movement of your own body. Also, having your thumbs anywhere but aligned safely along the side of your hand while training Krav Maga will get you hurt. I've seen it several times in class. DO NOT stick out your thumbs, unless you want them broken.

  • @sZ1mm Very true

  • but if someone kick you i dont think yur arms have enough strength to guard against that...

  • @cryer3160 I've blocked kicks with my arms.

  • @cryer3160 you can block kicks with your arms, u can block kicks with your legs. If u couldnt block kicks w/ ur arms, high kicks would be the standard offense in real fights :)

As for this video, its a training drill- & looks 2b good one. I trained in Inosanto JKD/Kali/etc (much crosstraining). We used similar drills, but incorporated footwrk. I got to this vid from elsewhere&don't know its purpose, could be 4 inexperienced. Looks useful.Practicing it certainly more useful than not practicing it!

  • I tried this with a friend because at first I was hesitant it wouldnt stop a full speed blow. But we tried it with gloves and went at full speed and it can actually stop a suprising amount of force. I was punching HARD and a proper 360 will fully deflect the blow. Even if a punch gets through if you get the timing right it well greatly reduce its force and will set u up for the "self defense clinch" if you will.

  • alot of people say "oh this will never work blah blah." I think it will work against alot of STREET fighters who highly commit on knocking you out with one big punch. Against sport combat athletes its different because they punch straight and use combos and dont over commit any one punch. But lets face it, most people who start bar fights are not martial artists or combat athletes. They are usually angry out of shape cigarette smokers who need to prove a point.

  • ITS NOT A MOVE............. Its a part of training to condition you skills such as your reaction time. PLease listen next time

  • I practice this in my class, all the time. suggestion. Buy forearm pads lol. True, you wont have them on the street if you get attacked, but its best to protect your arms in continous drills then once on the street.

  • @polarbear2907 After a while you won't get bruises anymore... Guess your body just doesn't care anymore so it just pretty much forgets about it hehe :)

  • im gonna start using this to practice but ill use staight punches also

  • the only thing i think i would find hard in KM is block a straight punch, i mean being in close you gotta be fuckin quick to block a straight punch

  • @Brady2k10 yea u gotta use the inside defense. Also i think slipping punches from boxing is the best way to get out of the way. I think krav and boxing used together have the best punch defenses for a wide variety of situations

  • doesnt work with a quick jab does it?

  • wat if they hit straight and not around you

  • @fatassboy666

(Just started krav and currently going over strikes) I just got done practicing defending against regular strikes a couple hours ago and if they hit straight what I was taught was (if you are right handed) simultaneously twist ur hips and block his punch with your left forearm then hit him in the neck, ear, temple, or evade while stepping throught to get behind him and when you are behind him you can knee him, kick him in the ass, take out his knee, or get distance.

  • @lussierstephen

"Just started krav " come back here in 2 years, and read your post again -.-

  • Also remember folks you should definitely NOT use this move for anymore than about 4 1/2 seconds as you will make a mistake and as soon as you have countered a swing you should burst in with knees and counterpunches.

  • It's actually very effective. YOu can't do it continuously but it can deflect a couple of quick, successive blows

  • This doesn't seem like an effective defense for straight punches. Plus blocking low is better with your elbow like boxers do

  • Hence why they teach a different defence in Krav for straight punches or palms. 360 is for wide, low and high defence.

  • @tsilverrush330 I don't understand why people give u negative comments ! 360 doesn't mean for punches anyway. It is meant for knife defense.

  • no way. 1.5 seconds if you were a retarded amputee. to realize a threat and act, takes about .47 seconds

  • i was thinking the same thing... do they realize how long 1.5 seconds is?

  • @sarge727 I agree totally my defense is a lot faster 15 years of krav maga can explain that however I don't think anyone defense is that slow.

  • listen to the guy it's not about a defence it's about making your reaction time faster which will overall make you a better fighter

  • if any of you have ever studied krav you'd know that the 360 is a defence for outside attacks, you'll learn other defences for a straight strike.... 360 works well and allows you to do a simultaneous counterstrike turning defence to attack within a second... don't knock it till you try it!

  • "don't knock it till you try it" so I have to get addicted to a harmful substance before I can say it's bad for you?

  • this is actually a pretty good defense until they do an inside attack or if the enemy is faster than you.

  • cirkular attacks are the slowes form of attack because they take an indirect way. Obviusly this is not ment for direct attacks so isnt really a weakness anymore than a tanks weakness being that it is not good for fighting below water..

  • lol very good response

  • wtf did this guy just say?

  • For inside attacks there is a different technique used, you shift your shoulders/torso and for the speed, train harder than he does and it should do the trick. Again, no martial art guarantees you victory. It's not always the best fighter who wins, but the one who fought best.

  • i dont like krav maga, but this is a really useful drill...they shud have shown the inside defense too, not just the outside.

  • Look, this is only outside defense for the 360 defense, obviously you haven't seen the inside defense, which more trained fighters use unlike unskilled attackers. They didn't show that here.

  • my uncle was a boxer and would do this kind of stuff, and none of us could touch him his reflexes were so fast.

Also think of every street fight you see on htis site, thats how people swing, wild. its really only well trained and composed guys who punc straight on.

  • @PowerHammerPictures The prize is straight ahead. Trying to block a blow that at the peripheral goes against the economy of motion. Your body is the target. There is nothing out there in empty space that's worth blocking or protecting. I say keep ur technique close in and tight instead of meeting a looping attack with a block. The exception is if there is a weapon. In that case u might need to intercept before it touches u. But 4 empty hands, I say attack his center.

  • @osensei2987 I think the point behind it is that blocking at longer range is easier, because their strike hasn't gathered much momentum yet.

And there's intimidation too: Watching a whole range of punches get blocked sends a message that you're serious, and possibly dangerous. Attackers are likely to end an attack if they realise they won't be able to win, or will get hurt in the process. Most troubleseekers after all, are just after affirming their 'power' or ego. They won't risk losing.

  • @Blahb27 I'm not a fan of blocking punches. It's a fist fight, not a sword fight. At long range u block with ur feet (which means u get the hell out of the way if u can). At close range u slip, cover, duck, bob and weave. But blocking is the worse bullshit ever taught in the martial arts. Because any hand u use to block could have been put to better use in striking instead. Plus many times blocking opens the line of attack to ur center which is exactly what the attacker wants.

  • @osensei2987 Well, the other guy has as many arms as you do, so the opening might be there, they just lack the number of limbs to use it. In theory you can block punches no matter how often. That's a stable situation from which you can take the offensive if needed.

Ducking and bobbing is often a bad idea. You're open to kicks, knees, and worst of all: rabbit punches. Now in that latter thing there's something some bum with a chip on his shoulder can get right, even if by accident.

  • Jesus, this is just a reaction drill. We do them all the time in fencing. I can't understand why some of u guys are bashing this. Like the said, it trains your skill of perception of movement.

  • Search for chi sau videos from wing tsun then you will know how we feel all the time :D people think it is how we fight !

  • @nabasta React to what? For the majority of its travel time, a looping punch is outside ur zone of defense. U should defend the point of impact. Otherwise you'll be reaching out to block something that hasn't even become a threat yet! This just leaves u wide open. Furthermore, the type of block used here is utterly useless because it blocks into the natural bend of the attackers elbow instead of against it. Therefore. the attacker can bend his elbow to get around the block and into ur face.

  • he means the BRT (brain reaction time.) Not to actually move your arm and block it. Just to realise it their, and where it is.

  • HalfBak3dM0nkey,

    this is only training...

    they speak on real combat...

a real one is alot more faster than that so please dont be so happy with your clicking records.

    and btw css is lame.

  • the 360 degree defense is meant as a block against outside attacks (basically anything going in a circular motion instead of a straight line) towards your torso/neck/head. Block the opponents wrist with your lower arm to maximize power. You use this technique for almost all outside attacks because, for instance, a boxing technique might work against fists, but often you dont realize theres a knife untill it's too late so you try to keep any attack as far away from ur body as possible.

  • @bartjeej Blocking a knife like u described will get u sliced like bacon. A knife fighter flows with his strokes. So when he feels ur block he'll just turn his wrist and slide down ur forearm into ur torso. Now if u hit w/ ur other hand simultaneously ala Wing Tsun then it will be more difficult for him. So I'll admit that. If he manages to slide down ur forearm then ur blocking hand is trapped because its motion is limited by ur own torson. Use a cross-body meet-to-follow motion instead.

  • lmao

  • Tient, on fait cet entrainement aussi dans mon dojo de karaté ^^ tres éfficace ! ^^

  • if you've played halflife before..i'm sure you would agree that is not faster than a mouse click.

  • to all the people attacking this method of defense for whatever reason, that it won't stop a straight punch, it won't stop a determined attack etc. etc... how about we put a boxer in the ring with an Israeli Special Forces Commando and see how long they last, i can almost guarantee that it won't be more than about 3 minutes

  • max of 30 seconds, a boxer isn't trained to kill with 1 hit.

  • neither is the ISPFC. He is trained to kill fast and effiecently, but not with one hit. The technique that follows the hit might kill, but there are very few people that could kill with just one hit. Killing like that is more about brute power then technique. People use technique so they can deal more damage as they would without.

  • haha if you are the most brutal person on earth all you need is technique... a little girl could KILL someone with good technique, sadly i'm not a little girl so i can't prove it with anything other than theory

  • its 2 strenghten the brains reaction time i think

  • watch and learn...if you see a better technique...adopt ........

  • Who said there is no defense against straight attacks? Just because it's not featured on human weapon doesn't mean it's not there. You parry the jab with your right hand and move your head the opposite direction, for the outside attacks, you use the 360 defense.

  • people would have to punch a certain way to use this technique. i dont think alot of people punch like that.

  • its not a matter of punching defense, but more of developing a quicker sense of response towards an attack, any attack, not just from this position

  • @WakeTheDead300

Most people who have no training will swing a punch. Not drive it right down the middle. Youtube street fight vids and look at how people punch. This is a system based of real life. Now if someone does know how to fight, you use other blocking techniques. The 360 isn't the only one but it's used in many attacks.

  • This technique works against knife stabs, knife slices, roundhouse punches, roundhouse kicks etc. for straight punches and similar, you would use other techniques.

  • It doesn't work against those attacks either.

  • You're not informed. It does. But what is the technique in Krav Mage for straight punches and straight knive attacks, serpenso?

  • If someone is dedicated to deliver a haymaker to someone's face, the 360 block will not work. I've trained military Krav Maga during my service in the royal marines. It is not a good close combat system.

  • That would really only work against hooks, roundhouse kicks, and other similar "side coming" attacks. If someone did a teep kick or a straight cross or jab, it would most likely penetrate this style of defense.

  • This is for TV. In reality there is a lot more to 360 defenses. They call it a 360 defense because it defends you from any angle. I agree what they were practicing only protects you from circular based attacks, however there are (although poorly described here) aspects of the 360 defense for blocking attacks coming straight at you. I'm gonna guess these guys spent several hours tops the 360 defense, and I've doing Krav Maga for two years, and I safely say this is a bad portrayal of the 360.

  • wrong, if someone kicks or punches you from below, you kinda jump back and move your arm down in the same 90 ° angle. Then you block it and you moved your genitals out of the danger area, even if he would penetrate your block, which is a block as easy to perform as on the sides or from the top.

People that say that this will not help against straight punches are right, but there are other moves for those kinds of attacks.

  • Really cool, where did you find this one ?

  • Yeah it can be that but if u have small response time u can use it in a fight if the enemy is doing a flury of attacks.

  • what?

    obvious, dude.

  • doesnt muay thai use this smiliar traing except with the ebows?

  • I guess the idea of this is that it's just an exercise to train your brain to react quicker, and not actually a defence move for real combat.

  • Yeah it's a training drill for a certain attribute

  • @Oracurax Yes and no. Not the "I'm swinging straight arms at you", but if someone's coming in with a fist, you can use the same blocking style. It may even work for knife attacks, but when an attacker is using a weapon, that's a whole 'nother story.

  • @Oracurax

the 360 defense is completely applicable in real combat. If you watch, they eventually progress this drill to include an immediate counter attack.

Watch the whole episode and the applied use of it makes more sense.

  • @Oracurax

Spot on. However it is part of a defense move when combined with a simultaneous push or punch. So let's say someone swings at you and you deflect with the forearm and at the same time use the other hand to push (at the shoulder) as to say 'back off'. Or someone swings at you and you deflect and simultaneously use the free hand to punch (with fist or open palm) to the solaplex, neck, stomach, face etc. The key is simultaneously. It's one of my favorite moves. :)

  • @dazzelya

I forgot to mention that when practicing the 360 defense (and defenses in general) you don't actually look at the arms of the other person. You look 'through' the person around the height of the chest/shoulders and use your peripheral vision to see the attack. It's comparable to defending someone in basketball. You don't actually look at the ball but also use your peripherals.

  • @dazzelya Nope! How bout raising ur elbow to the side of ur head and covering the back of ur neck with the same hand. That will place a barrier over the target causing the blow to impact ur forearm or the back of ur shoulder. At the same time u step in with that same raised elbow into ur attackers face. Meantime the other hand hasn't even been used and is still poised for attack or defense. That's better than reaching out into empty space to block and leaving ur fucking face wide open! HAHAHA!

  • @osensei2987

I know there is a system (forgot the name) that uses the technique that you describe but the 360 is much more effective. Would you want to stop someone's blow some distance away from you or basically deal with the full for blow. You also can't do what you described if the swinging hand is holding a knife. You let the person come much too close.

  • @dazzelya I've already addressed weapons earlier. I agree that u have to either evade or intercept a weapon before it touches u. However, a block would be the worse. Esp, if ur palm is facing the knife because ur wrist veins and tendons would be exposed to the the blade. All the guy would need to do is pull back and ur arm would be cut (and possibly disabled). The technique I described is for empty hand combat and it is executed as u power into the attacker causing the haymaker to wrap around.

  • @Oracurax Waist of time. Once ur guard is up u hardly have to move ur hands to block! Just use subtle motions like covers and shoulder rolls a parries! Ur putting yourself under too much pressure trying to become superhuman in terms of neurological response. Plus there's no way ur going to be able to maintain a skill like this over the long haul. You'll have to practice this 1 skill 4 the rest of your life and it will still fade over time regardless to how you train! Subtlety is the key!

  • @osensei2987

You clearly have never tried Krav Maga. This is a training exercise but the same block is used in every outside attack so there is no need to practice just this one skill for the rest of your life. You use it automatically in Krav Maga in general. If you really want to disregard Krav Maga as a effective system (and it has been proven HIGHLY effective over the years), try it sometime.

  • @dazzelya They're called sensitivity drills and many MA use various types. However, I'm of the philosophy that u never vacate ur center line. Never block what u can hit. Like they say in Kali, "De-fang the snake on the first beat!". I'm tired of ppl telling me what's effective. Hell, fighting like an untrained drunk is effective until u do it in the wrong situation. The situation dictates which techniques and strategies u should use! Better to be able to improvise & adapt!

  • @dazzelya Training for realism is to stand bare knuckled w/ no gear & beat the shit out of 1 another! This would lead to hospital visits and brain injuries. The alternatives r to not train full contact (pull punches) or suit up in protective gear and go full force. Neither of these alternatives are realistic either. If u suit up u get the superman syndrome! The attacker falsely keeps attacking after receiving blows that should have stopped him causing sparring to degenerate into slop sessions.

  • @Oracurax It can be used in a real, defensive context. Hook punches, overhands, any outside blows can be countered with this. It's also effective to defend against knife slashes. This video doesn't show it, but the 360 defense is also paired with a bursting counterstrike, which can often times end the fight before it really starts.
