Spot on about young people not being able to deal with anything (I'm 21 so I know many of them). When I was 15 I built foundations. One November 20 degree morning a board we had set up over a 8 foot deep ditch broke and I fell all the way down into a foot and a half of water gashing the back of my head on the broken board. I got up came to terms with the fact that I was gona be wet and cold and got back to work. Thank God for good dads who teach us to buck up and do what we have to do.

I am an eagle scout and spent much of my life out in the wilderness. I'm a big firearm enthusiast as well. I completely agree with your philosophy. Nutn I was raised this way by my grandfather (Marine,Nam) and my stepdad. Both were no nonsense get it done guys. I was changing cyclinder heads on diesels at age 7 with my grandfather who I admire to no end. He,convinced there would be another Nam in my time taught me to shoot. My stepdad was more a hard driving type. Everything needing repair was done by us. We learned early on not to say "we cant fix that" because inevitably it was proven otherwise. Why do people think that nutn is calling out those who don't have survival training? He's just talking about learning mental toughness, which you learn through experiencing hardship and persevering through it. The greatest generation was great because they grew up persevering through the Depression. When WWII came along, they did the job because they were conditioned for hardship. They weren't pussies. I remember when i was young and we were fishing on a cold October day, I fell in the lake and I was super cold, but my dad and uncle kept me out there until we got a fish, it was 9 pounds and we cooked it up and it fed everyone well!
I was just 5 years old but ill remember that day for the rest of my life!

My uncle helped my reel it in but we went back to the camp site, my grandpa my other uncle, my cousin was there. Gutted the fish. 9 pounds cooked it up everyone was happy
Wwhen I fell in that water it was like under 45 degrees out. I just wanted to go back to the site, but my dad and uncle wouldn't let me. It went from the worst day of my life to my best :)

Here in Western Massachusetts we had a major snowstorm in October that put 600,000 people without power. I was out of power for 24 hours, and many others for a full week. I remember everyone freaking out. People were calling me asking what I was going to do. They were aghast that I wasn't freaking out. I told them that I'll be fine, and that it's nothing to panic about. The only change I needed to make was to dress warmer. That's it. That's nothing to freak out about.
My school makes us go on camping trips for a week every year, the one last year was in the Quetico Provincial Park in Ontario for a canoeing/portaging (carrying your canoe and gear over land) trip. There was no phone service, no electronics were allowed, no motor boats or cars, no planes overhead except for a few rangers. It was awesome.We all pulled our weight, we all got through it, and had a hell of a good time.
Well I for one think its not fare to rope the city slickers in this they know nothing of living in the country! I work, and so does my brother and we hunt because the price of beef and chicken is so expensive. So, I hunt the tree rats, rabbits, and deer in the winter and save the rest for summer.

Spot on about young people not being able to deal with anything (I'm 21 so I know many of them). When I was 15 I built foundations. One November 20 degree morning a board we had set up over a 8 foot deep ditch broke and I fell all the way down into a foot and a half of water gashing the back of my head on the broken board. I got up came to terms with the fact that I was gona be wet and cold and got back to work. Thank God for good dads who teach us to buck up and do what we have to do.

I am an eagle scout and spent much of my life out in the wilderness. I'm a big firearm enthusiast as well. I completely agree with your philosophy. Nutn I was raised this way by my grandfather (Marine,Nam) and my stepdad. Both were no nonsense get it done guys. I was changing cyclinder heads on diesels at age 7 with my grandfather who I admire to no end. He,convinced there would be another Nam in my time taught me to shoot. My stepdad was more a hard driving type. Everything needing repair was done by us. We learned early on not to say "we cant fix that" because inevitably it was proven otherwise. I wouldnt change any of it.

He's just talking about learning mental toughness, which you learn through experiencing hardship and persevering through it. The greatest generation was great because they grew up persevering through the Depression. When WWII came along, they did the job because they were conditioned for hardship. They weren't pussies. Nutn im just 22 but when I have my kids ill take these lessons to task.
I remember when i was young and we were fishing on a cold October day, I fell in the lake and I was super cold, but my dad and uncle kept me out there until we got a fish, it was 9 pounds and we cooked it up and it fed everyone well!
I was just 5 years old but ill remember that day for the rest of my life!
I hope that I will be able, when I get married, to show my kids the same life!

@nutnfancy and I ended up being the one that caught the fish haha! it was a proud moment. I was cold soaking wet, feel a tug on my line. My uncle helped my reel it in but we went back to the camp site, my grandpa my other uncle, my cousin was there. Gutted the fish. 9 pounds cooked it up everyone was happy
Wwhen I fell in that water it was like under 45 degrees out. I just wanted to go back to the site, but my dad and uncle wouldn't let me. It went from the worst day of my life to my best :)

Living where I live at my friends think I'm crazy for going out in the "wilderness" just a few miles outside of the city is best I can get. I go out and take as little as I can and just provide for myself. I've tried to talk to them about filtering water and getting it clean how to find food even if you stay in the city. My school makes us go on camping trips for a week every year, the one last year was in the Quetico Provincial Park in Ontario for a canoeing/portaging (carrying your canoe and gear over land) trip. There was no phone service, no electronics were allowed, no motor boats or cars, no planes overhead except for a few rangers. It was awesome.We all pulled our weight, we all got through it, and had a hell of a good time.

Well I for one think its not fare to rope the city slickers in this they know nothing of living in the country! I work, and so does my brother and we hunt because the price of beef and chicken is so expensive. So, I hunt the tree rats, rabbits, and deer in the winter and save the rest for summer.

great vid nutn, i probably would use a bit different phrasing than "depussification" but thats pretty much what it boils down to. somthing i would kind of add on or clarify, i would say that backpacking is a great tool and teaches self reliance... not the exact works you used but i think it explains it better. and overall i think it teaches or shows us the truth, which is that life is and can be hard and that no one is entitles to anything but what they provide for themselves. thanks again

I remember about a week after the 9-11 Attacks–A talk show guy on the radio , commenting how in the Hamptons, Long Island guys in their early 20′s are walking around like wimps with their pink sweaters drapped across their shoulders like bitches and he went on to describe these straight guys like fems. After that he described how in the Middle East the teenagers were training with rifles & obstacle courses, etc. He said that if were were invaded we were doomed.
