@mcdstuff I'm a non union local in Knoxville, and I have heard of union shenanigans in other cities, and though I often consider joining the union, I don't like to starve
I have had some crappy gigs doing things the union would touch, and as bad as it may be I still get paid and get a little respect from the road crew and techs for sticking to it and getting the gig set up with only moderate bitching and griping. Ill even help you repack
we not only try to work harder than the IATSE, we MUST!
@steviedeev2 That time of the month huh? Nut up or shut up. You got something to say, say it don't beat around the bush. Till then go find the cable stretcher.
Union or non-union - every city is different. The promoters hire competent help or the local tweakers. The unions swear in real technicians or their friends.
@jsomers100 the words scab and needed don't belong in the same sentence. Just because I don't work harder than I need to for less money than I deserve, insurance, retirement, legal representation, a simple coffee break, etc... Doest mean I'm lazy. I work circles around tweakers on a bender, get the job done RIGHT, and still be on the clock by the time I'm home and relaxing. So don't try to justify selling sort each and every stagehand. Shpedoikle!
A feud is brewing as the Teamsters look to take over representation of about 500 transportation workers on film and TV sets in the Toronto area.
; the function historically was too small for the Teamsters to bother with, principal But explosive production growth in the city the past five years, coupled with complaints from IATSE drivers who Teamsters say have "a substandard wage and benefit labor contract," have whetted Teamsters' appetite for taking over.

Could be worse if it's scabs that don't know what the fuck they're doing (rhino, NRG, PRR, Tull, upstaging).
jabberingmonkey 1 year ago
@jabberingmonkey maybe if you weren't so slovenly and disheveled , scabs would not be needed
