The Constitution blah blah. You can't have everything run to the letter of a document written over 200 years ago. You need the dept of agricultural and education. Paul sweeps that under the rug by just talking about over seas spending first. Cutting over seas spending is a must, but not departments here that serve a purpose. Paul needs to go be a libertarian king on his own island in the Pacific. Paul said Lincoln wasn't a Republican lol. The original Republican wasn't a Republican.
@hmasterpiece85 There was no authority under the Constitution for Lincoln to use military force to prevent the secession of the Confederacy. Why do we have a rule of law if we're not going to follow it? While the Constitution may appear dated to some and calling it dated is an excellent talking point, it still is our country's rule of law, whether you or I like it or not. Anything it lacks should be addressed using the proper amendment process...not haphazardly creating federal agencies.
@greeninwi I am so sick of Ron Paul lunatics! So being commander in chief does not give you the authority to keep your country from becoming 2 or more countries. Here is a news flash for you a country grows and expands. It also says in the constitution that all men are created equally. Yet Ron Paul seems to think otherwise when it comes to minorities, the poor and sick. Lincoln was the original Republican. I am sure you will some how blame Obama for Ron Paul being a raciest over 30 years.
@hmasterpiece85 I suggest you brush up on your history. Perhaps read something here or there...rather than gather your own perspective based on your own version of history. I must have really flustered you with my comment since you posted twice in a matter of minutes. The rule of law is the rule of law. Please elaborate and defend you reasons for the DOA and DOE being necessary at a federal level. I am anxious to read this diatribe (<< look it up). More slandering?...
I think this guy get's his funding from monsantos or something. I think bio diversity is more important than funding corporate farming. We need more people like Ron Paul that can speak the truth in the face of adversity otherwise corporate agendas will continue to trump reasonable behavior.
Why Ed always thinks he is 100% right on everything is appalling. He is just banging on and on and on and not really giving any practical, theoretical or evidence based argument.
If anything, Ed Shultz IS the real psycho. What Ron Paul says is COMMON SENSE! Why spend money on some things that don't work! I don't we should get rid completely of some government agencies like education. But what we need is some cutting of some agencies since the government is just too big.
I have worked with the dept of ag. They do wonderful things for the small farmer with ag education. The problem comes because of congress that dose subsidies for farms. I think Ron Paul should work on getting his own house in order before he blames things on others.
He is an idiot. Ed Schulz does not get that some parents do not want the three choices expensive private school, cheap socialized government schooling, or un social home schooling. He also doesn't seem to understand that people need to start growing their own food and do not need the government to put something on their plate every night for dinner.
mr ron paul , dumbass talking about spying governments, he voted for a bill where if you are suspected of being illegal, and you go to the hospital, the hospital is required to turn in your info, to the federal government , with all your information, thats some government spying right there, this old ass timid weak hypocrite phony racist old man ron paul endorses what he says we should watch out for, fuck ron paul .
@samtotheg look at the patriot act, whitch gives the government the power to spy on us. plus, Ron Paul is not racist. if you look deeper into what he is saying, you will find out he is very intelligent, knows what he is talking about, and is not a hypocrite.
@DP3mo24hofosho thank you for debating issues at hand and not launchin personal attacks, racist have you seen his newsletters he first admitted he wrote them and people wudnt understand then he wrote then said the ghost writer is still someone he still has campaign ties with, hmm,and he is hypocritical in the sense that he hates government spending but uses federal money for lame ass pork projects.
After years of investigative research, I have found that Ed Shultz has no penis. Yes it's true Ed has no dick. Many of his supporters deny this. But they are just in penile denial, or penisers if you wish.......
The only psycho here is Ed. it ticks me off that they pick and choose what they want to tell everyone. Ron Paul clearly explains his position on dept of ed etc.. yet when thuis douch bag Ed and other dems report they say half a story they do not clarify that Ron Paul has said many times over that he would not cut social security because so many depend on it but he will give the opportunity to the younger generations to save their money as they please. Report that fat head!!
I'm as progressive as ed all day and I'm a fan but I'm disappointed to him looking so much like bill o'rielly on this interview. Ron is actually one of the most sane ppl on the other side of the isle.
Words can't express how fucking stupid that liberal Ed is. He's trying to mislead the people. Go Ron! lol I like it when Ron says "Let me talk." Because Ed should shut the fuck up and let Ron talk.
It's not about who owns who. I'm a democrat and unlike many, this guy has some good points and he presents them in a non threatening way. I like him calling it war mongering. We have to stop the damn wars. To hell with world politics. Our kids are getting blown up over ther for NO DAMN reason whatsoever. Bring them home, end the IRS , everybody pays 10%. look this guy is smart and he knows what he's talking about. I get kinda tired of hearing about the damn constitution. There is nothing sacred
Ron Paul would OWN Ed in an actual debate. This was only done for ratings. Ed should be ashamed of this attempt to smear an honest politician and for not giving Ron Paul a chance to explain his points. Ron Paul will most assuredly be getting my vote!!!
Ed Shultz does NOT talk for ME! He cuts off Dr. Paul everytime he tries to answer. More people like Ed in the country and the constitution will be DEAD. So sad.
I am a democrat and I like how Ron Paul has principles. But the best way to fix education and agriculture is to actually to fix them. For people who want smaller government do your part and don't collect social security, welfare, medicare, medcaid, don't eat food that is inspected by FDA, don't call the police, fireman, no more financial aid for you as well and don't go to schools that receive governemnt money. End of the day if you want smaller government see how long you would last.
@rrhynes to answer your question Yes I have. And you are right human civilization has been around for about 5000 years and has live without some regulations. But at the sametime birth defect rates were higher, morality rates were higher, and life expectancy was shorter. Regulations has expanded the quality of life. So as I mentioned before you are welcome to home school your children and send them to non-publicly funded colleges and you can't eat any products inspected by the FDA. Try it!!!
@sincereizhere So you would rather live with big government up your ass for that wonderful extended life you THINK you might experience? The basic problem we have in this world is the fact people live too long. There are too many people. We're headed towards smaller goverhment so I'd get used to that idea as soon as possible. Those days of big daddy Uncle Sam wiping your ass fo ryou are coming to a close. Thank God.
@rrhynes It is a natural human tendency to live longer. When people say government is too big what do they mean? Could you explain what part of government you would like to truncate or eliminate as regards to programs and agencies? Please respond in an educational manner or if you don't have the wits to because you haven't attended an education institution because that is a government funded program I understand clearly.
@sincereizhere How? Let me count the ways. Let's see. Where should I start? How about the military. Worldwide dominance, bases all over the fuckin' world. Ridiculous and unnecessary. We have submarines for our protection. Mind you, I said OUR protection, not other countries. Medicare. We spend billions every year feeding a system that rips EVERYONE off. We should provide medical degrees to qualified people through public colleges..at acceptable costs. I can go on and on.
@rrhynes Do you understand medicare is a self paying benefit system. Bad point. Public colleges are funded by the government and most students receive federal funded aid to go to school. To give a statistic over 20 million students do. Submarines? lol submarines now are used for nuclear strategic deterrence. The reason why tuition rates rise because college is high demand as now. (Supply Demand theory). Do you know most medical professionals support a public option look it up.
@sincereizhere The point about medicare isn't whos paying for it, it's who is getting paid! The fuckin' doctors, hospitals and drug manufacturers are raping us! On the federal aid for students point; It's been proven that the ease of obtaining federal and personal school loans help drive the cost of an education to the obscene levels we have today. So find another "good" point to arguge. Do you know that you have addressed a single problem in your speech? Just rhetoric, like good Ole Ed.
Back up on the submarines. You stated what we're using them for now, not what we could or should be using them for. Get it? They can do a hell of alot more than what we ask them to do today. Put them to use.
@sincereizhere "Submarines now are used for nuclear strategic deterrence." Wrong! So wrong it is a joke. Only a small number of our Submarines now carry nuclear warheads. Most of them are now used as mobile missile platforms (Tomahawks), black ops, mine sweeping operations and, to attack and sink other Submarines and surface ships. You really shouldn't comment about thins you know little about. Just like government spending.
@rrhynes The govt has provided more jobs than any other industry. Before you ask for smaller govt think about how many people will be without a job and unable to support their families. Don't be a selfish american just for self right pride. You are entitled to your opinion (1st amendment). My last comment to you is don't start an argument with someone who knows more than you. Because you are person who doesn't think a decision all the way through when they sprout about cutting programs.
@sincereizhere Oh and that ominipotent one would be yourself? Are you so dumb that you think that every job the government employeee does could not be accomplished by a contracted employee? Nobody said the job wouldn't have to be done, but it doesn't need to be done by a Federal Employee. WE don't need to pay pensions and put up with all the union bullshit if we get rid of all Fed employees. As far as thinking things through, you haven't said a goddamn thing of any substance.
@sincereizhere Get rid o fthe DEA. What a waste of public money. A fight we cannot win and wouldn't know what to do with ourselves if we did. Legalize all drugs and tax them, but don't spend one nickel arresting people for the sale, production or use of them. Stop all aid to foreign countries. Eliminate all subsidies for anything. Your big government loves all of the above. Do you feel safer because of them? Probably not. Think you'll live longer? I guarantee not.
By the way, public eduation is a great thing. Let's let the states keep the money and eliminate federal involvment in education. That would eliminate a totally useless level of beuracracy. The states need to trim the fat too. I live in Calif and we're fucked because of big government. Anything I can do to get rid of govt employees is a great thing.
Local government made sense in the old days so that people had choices about which government they live in. If the world has the same government everywhere, where can you go to escape poor government?
I lost a little respect for Ed. He pulled the O'Reilly filibuster. He must have believed that Paul was going to show him up, and he may have been right.
@funkbrother216 not if paul was going to spew the babble about lincoln, i like paul, i like his views on foreign policy, his fed stuff and his gold standard views I dont agree with, but people can agreeable while disagreeable, but his views on lincoln are just flat out nutty, there's no other word for it.
I almost died laughing when Ed started talking about food security and in the same breath starts talking about how scared he is about mad cow disease. If the USDA is so crucial to our security, why aren't big ag producers being charged with acts of terrorism for the e coli in spinach or the practices of feeding chicken protein back to chickens or beef to beef. They are now under the DHS. The fact is the USDA is just a barrier to entry into what used to be Americas primary vocation, farming.
I agree that Ed was way off base and completely rude, but he's not wrong. Ron Paul said in that clip that we should get rid of the Department of Agriculture, and as Ed said, it is in charge of food safety. I screws things up just like any big bureaucracy would, but that doesn't mean we get rid of it. That's like getting rid of the police because they have planted evidence to convict black people and participated in hangings.
@halvor311 Nah, whenever you look at a government program, you have to ask yourself whether a private industry could replace the government's role. If at all possible, a private industry would almost ALWAYS do better than the government at managing literally anything. Proof of this is the fact that socialism didn't work and the fact that all our government managed agencies/industries etc. are extremely inefficient.
@RKAddict101 really? I think most senior citizens on medicare would disagree with you on that, and private sector? LMFAO,, yeah they did a GREAT job with the mortgage deregulation, or about how the banks, or how about gm and ford needing tax payer money to save them from their mismanagement...or how about our wonderful monoply...er i mean free market health care system, where people pay thousands a year only when they actually get sick to have a team of adjustors find a way to deny them coverage
@nappyweed111 The mainstream belief that the banks, etc. failed because of deregulation is completely incorrect. The real reason they failed is because of the lack of capitalism, not because of capitalism. The low interest rates created by the expansion of the money supply by the fed is meant to make people invest much more. Then they ask why people are making such risky investments. "Uh, I dunno, people were just making bad investments for some reason."
@nappyweed111 As for our health care system, we don't have a free market health care system. Licensing takes a huge chunk out of possible medical care practitioners. When we have a system that forces doctors to go through a decade of expensive education (because the government is involved there as well), obviously medical prices will go up. This isn't capitalism, and people need to realize that. Sorry for two replies, by the way, character limit.
The government always mis-manages money. Nationwide, the federal government has paid at least $1.3 billion in subsidies for rice and other crops since 2000 to individuals who do no farming at all.
Some of them collect hundreds of thousands of dollars without planting a seed.
Ron is flippin Brilliant! I don't get mad that people don't understand him. It just takes time and energy to see where he is coming from and where he wants to go. Sadly, most people react with fear and arrogance that they have everything figured out and do not take the time. My hat goes off to Ron Paul. I am so glad that I met him this lifetime. Thank you sir.
I don't know if I ever saw an interviewer make a bigger baffoon out of themselves. Ron Paul is right, Dept of Ag money goes to the big corporate farms and GMO corporate crops. Small farmers would be better off without it. Nothing is more stupid then putting food under central planning, see Russia for examples. The only sustainable path is doing things locally, and letting communities can thrive independantly, not following this fool Ed onto the Statist Titanic.
"I'm a proud product of the United States public school system and I'd like to say, FUCK YOU, RON PAUL!!!" - BigD1987 Wow, BigD, I can see by your classy and well thought out comment that the public school system has done you wonders.
@BigD1987 Congratulations, but you are in the minority. Check out statistics of money spent, test scores, and employment figures, etc. and the overall reflection of our society. and btw, Your success in the current system does not mean you would FAIL in another system, a localized system, by your community. That is not sound reasoning. You are the cause, and I congratulate thee. Don't be so closed or prejudicial of other realities. You do not have to be so loyal a.k.a fearful. Love
@BigD1987 I'm a proud product of the United States public school system and I'd like to say, FUCK YOU BigD1987. If that big mouth Ed Shultz would STFU you understand what Paul was trying to say.
Boy, that guy is a foaming at the mouth, raging lunatic. And a rude one at that. And a hack and a phony.
Ed Schultz, that is. What's that Ed? The Department of Ag. gave you mad cow disease? I can see that.
Think about what is happening in America when a propaganda mouthpiece like that, a cheap, degenerate carnival barker, can openly label a sitting member of congress "psycho" on national television, just because he disagrees with the man's policies.
I love how when Ron starts to answer Eds question Ed cuts him off so we can't hear the correct response to the question he asked, and then puts words into Rons mouth that he's not even saying. It's like Eds source of income is from the pocket of the people Rons exposing!!!
I don't want an agricultural department sucking up my tax dollars and giving it to big corporations. And I don't want Monsanto genetically engineering my food. I want raw milk from a small farm in my area that doesn't use antibiotics and can still grow water mellons with seeds. I want free range chicken and organic vegetables and food that doesn't cause cancer. The Dept of Ag won't do that for us. Defund them!!!!!!
yeah, the ag dept sets the standards for "safety", then when something screws up we can't sue the rich food companies cause they were just "following government regulations". then they just wash their hands and give settlements if need be, all the while we're spending taxpayer money for all this regulation. Hasn't ED heard of all the Salmonella outbreaks and tainted peanut butter??? Lol, Ron Paul 2012!...America, the answer is screaming at your face!!! Get it RIGHT!!!
Watch out! We are all goona get food poisoning. Terrorists are gonna get us too! The government has to protect us and get BIGGER too! Oh, Lordy HELP US!!!
What a blabbering moron. Screw the constitution, huh ED?
@jolow2 Dude, ed is completely right on the ball on this, making a food safe is a NATIONAL SECURITY matter, we can't have soldier willing to die for the corperations getting stomach cramps and blasting in their shorts
hahahahahahah thats all he has? agricultural department? LOL his other issues were shot down by Paul in like 2 seconds and all he's clinging on to is the stupid agri department which hes totally wrong on anyways? ROFL!
Ed Shultz promotes the same ignorant, shallow thinking that is far too widespread in America. He, like many, assumes that if the government doesn't do these things that it won't be done. In fact, almost everything the government does can better be done through the free market. Ed is so idiotic he actually believes that just because the congress created the Ag department that it is constitutional. He's really trying hard to promote ignorance.
@BudWithBeats76 +1. How it works according to muppets like Schultz "Maybe there's a better way of attaining goal X than process Y+ = "you don't care about goal X"
If the "american people" wanted a food monitoring agency, it would come about on a free market through private donations and fees paid by ag. companies who want their food certified by the private certification industry. Secondly, the Deparment of Ag creates a false sense of food security. Food today is full of heavily subsidized unhealthy corn byproducts and GMOs, and people figure it to be safe because it is government certified, but now we have record high diabetes and hypertension rates.
@nogoodusernames100 I'd rather the government took care of food safety, thankyouverymuch. If it wasn't for the government, you'd probably still have human fingers in your hot dogs. You libertarians think the government is not good for anything. While it can be inefficient, having the government look after our food safety is better than some private company that only has profit on its mind and not the safety of its customers.
If you want a food safety agency, why don't you and other concerned consumer come together to fund a private agency which through an established reputation(similar to moody's credit rating) could certify food safety. If your certification built up enough credibility to the point where consumers relied on your certification companies would have a financial incentive to ask for certification from you.
@BigD1987 Also, what profit incentive does a company have to poison their food? Would they not face civil litigation and a loss of business? What incentive do they have to reduce their customer base?
@nogoodusernames100 History has shown that without some kind of government oversight, corporations will put profit over people. A privately funded agency is not enough to police these corporations. That's where the government comes in, because they have the resources to police and regulate them. We may be a primarily industrial country, but our agricultural output is larger than that of the EU's. We need the USDA because private citizens may help, but they're not enough.
You still haven't explained how you make a profit in providing a poisonous product. And the "profits over people" motto is a misnomer. Goods and services derive their value from consumers, profit is derived from the excess value after investment of the into the creation of a good or service. You don't make a profit unless individuals/consumers feel you provide subjective value
@nogoodusernames100 When I said "put people over profit", I didn't mean that some company would put cyanide in their products (that's a dumb move). The long list of deadly and defective products that have hit the market should speak for themselves. I support a more efficient government agency. My big problem with the government is that it can be too inefficient (I am in no way a fascist; fascism isn't that efficient in the first place).
Could you give me a list of those deadly and defective products? Secondly, if you do, you just prove my point, that the FDA doesn't protect consumers, can't protect consumers, and only consumers can properly regulate products and services by not buying them through boycotts or taking them to court.
@nogoodusernames100 We have 405,377 Sq. miles of AgArea in this country. The EU has 140,627 Sq. miles. Someone needs to regulate that. Like I said, a private group may not have the resources to regulate all that, but the USDA does.
I agree owners and consumers can easily regulate themselves, no need for a single arbitrary regulation industry over a vast area. That is incredibly stupid, and that is why the FDA is stupid. Not to mention, it stifles economic growth and creates barriers to entry which protect the big guys. Any issue of food poisoning can be solved through civil litigation. You don't need preemptive and inefficient regulatory boards which breed cronyism.
@nogoodusernames100 Government regulation is supposed to encourage competition. Teddy Roosevelt is admired because he was willing to stand up to large corporations with anti-trust and anti-monopoly laws. If left unregulated, these companies can swallow each other up and stifle competition. Also, civil litigation might not be enough. Those companies can afford the best lawyers around. The average Joe can't.
Creating wait times and onerous user fees just reduces overall supply and keeps prices artificially high while protecting firms who can afford the numerous regulations while the little guy can't. Upton Sinclair opposed the FDA for that very reason. Anyways, you still haven't provided a good reason for a firm to poison their food supply. What is the benefit of reducing your customer base by deliberately making them ill and thus losing business?
You clearly haven't heard of class action law suits. Thousands with the help of legal advocacy groups can enter a law suit if they feel they have been deliberately harmed, they can also but a company out of business by refusing to by their product if enough consumers feel the negatives outweigh the positives of the product and hurt their health.
During the last Presidential campaign he was the only candidate who said he would bring home all of our troops from around the world immediately, and he was called a whack job. Well who's crazy now? I guarantee you that we are going to put ground troops into Libya.
Ron Paul is a total Patriot. Schultz is a Fat arse typical liberal that shite's on the Constitution, whose argument is always weak and can't take it when he is proven wrong....which is 99% of the time. GO RON!
Did you hear him? I think that whack-job fancies himself wearing a Colonial hat, and playing George Washington. My god, the Republicans ARE NUTS. This is not 1778. Folks, the fact that the Republicans ARE BANKRUPT of ideas, and are clinging to their new theater, because they screwed the nation for 8 years, into 2 failed wars, a "2008 Bush Recession and Stock Market Collapse" and adding $6 trillion to the Debt, and failing to protect the homeland... is all you need to know.
What proof does Ed Schultz have that the Department of Education has improved education in America. I mean, I realize this video is about the Dep of Ag, but he proclaims that the Dep. of Ed. helps provide of a good education that was somehow lacking prior to it being established. However, if you bother looking at studies by NCES and CATO, it will show you that spending per student has nearly tripled since 1970 and scores have flatlined.
@kennythecooldude also the inspection done by the actual producers is better than what they government does. It's usaully pretty scientific in nature. in many cases the department of agriculture just eyeballs it and gives the okay.
@kennythecooldude I think you would know. Any business doesn't want to sell you spoiled food and make you sick because no one would buy it or if they did and got you sick you could not only sue them, but the media coverage would put them out of business. it's happened before with no intervention by the government.
To anyone who bothers to read this: go find an electrical appliance like a blender or clock radio. Look at the bottom or back of the device. Who was it inspected by? The Underwriter's Laboratory. Is that a government inspection agency? No, it's private, and it's very good at what it does. Now ask yourself, do you think a private agricultural inspection agency might to a better and more efficient job than the Dept. of Agriculture? I do.
Schultz took Ron Paul's words out of context, his mainstream matrix studio also played a silly tune over him speaking and had some HD props there to make Ron Paul look insane.
If you really watch the video you'll see the same... unless you like being fooled by the magic on TV.

Yeah, right. As a REAL Christian, he believes in the RULE OF LAW, which in the United States is supposed to be the Constitution, and that force is evil unless used to repel unjustified force. What do you believe in?
department of agriculture is allowing huge subsidizes the growing of high-fructose corn syrup.
"food security" comes from litigation in the event that food damages the health of a person. Provide subsidizes for suits against food producers. That would solve the void created with the elimination of the Ag dept.
The Ag dept provides immunitiy for producers if their product harms people, but meets the standards set by unelected bureaucrats at the whim of corporations.
This guy is like a left wing O'Reilly. He would not allow the exchange of ideas, so he's not interesting at all. I support Ron Paul but the FDA is probably ok with me, although there are some abuses.

What is the purpose of Government?
How so?
We decided in these United States of America that the answer to the above two questions was / is the US Constitution.
The pycho trusts government too much, Mr. Paul too little.
What is the purpose of Government?
To trust it before all else?
That is illogical -we have government to serve us, the people.
Ronald Reagan said it best. The people do not exist to serve government, government exists to serve us the people!
Mr. Paul owned the argument.

End of the day if you want smaller government see how long you would last.
sincereizhere 7 months ago
@sincereizhere Historically, we would last several thousand years. Ever read a history book stupid?
rrhynes 6 months ago
@rrhynes to answer your question Yes I have. And you are right human civilization has been around for about 5000 years and has live without some regulations. But at the sametime birth defect rates were higher, morality rates were higher, and life expectancy was shorter. Regulations has expanded the quality of life. So as I mentioned before you are welcome to home school your children and send them to non-publicly funded colleges and you can't eat any products inspected by the FDA. Try it!!!
sincereizhere 6 months ago
@sincereizhere So you would rather live with big government up your ass for that wonderful extended life you THINK you might experience? The basic problem we have in this world is the fact people live too long. There are too many people. We're headed towards smaller goverhment so I'd get used to that idea as soon as possible. Those days of big daddy Uncle Sam wiping your ass fo ryou are coming to a close. Thank God.
rrhynes 6 months ago
@rrhynes It is a natural human tendency to live longer. When people say government is too big what do they mean? Could you explain what part of government you would like to truncate or eliminate as regards to programs and agencies? Please respond in an educational manner or if you don't have the wits to because you haven't attended an education institution because that is a government funded program I understand clearly.
sincereizhere 6 months ago
@sincereizhere How? Let me count the ways. Let's see. Where should I start? How about the military. Worldwide dominance, bases all over the fuckin' world. Ridiculous and unnecessary. We have submarines for our protection. Mind you, I said OUR protection, not other countries. Medicare. We spend billions every year feeding a system that rips EVERYONE off. We should provide medical degrees to qualified people through public colleges..at acceptable costs. I can go on and on.
rrhynes 6 months ago
@rrhynes Do you understand medicare is a self paying benefit system. Bad point. Public colleges are funded by the government and most students receive federal funded aid to go to school. To give a statistic over 20 million students do. Submarines? lol submarines now are used for nuclear strategic deterrence. The reason why tuition rates rise because college is high demand as now. (Supply Demand theory). Do you know most medical professionals support a public option look it up.
sincereizhere 6 months ago
@sincereizhere The point about medicare isn't whos paying for it, it's who is getting paid! The fuckin' doctors, hospitals and drug manufacturers are raping us! On the federal aid for students point; It's been proven that the ease of obtaining federal and personal school loans help drive the cost of an education to the obscene levels we have today. So find another "good" point to arguge. Do you know that you have addressed a single problem in your speech? Just rhetoric, like good Ole Ed.
rrhynes 6 months ago
Back up on the submarines. You stated what we're using them for now, not what we could or should be using them for. Get it? They can do a hell of alot more than what we ask them to do today. Put them to use.
rrhynes 6 months ago
@rrhynes Hell yeah! Submarines can do almost anything.
atchisrj1 5 months ago
@sincereizhere "Submarines now are used for nuclear strategic deterrence." Wrong! So wrong it is a joke. Only a small number of our Submarines now carry nuclear warheads. Most of them are now used as mobile missile platforms (Tomahawks), black ops, mine sweeping operations and, to attack and sink other Submarines and surface ships. You really shouldn't comment about thins you know little about. Just like government spending.
atchisrj1 5 months ago
@rrhynes The govt has provided more jobs than any other industry. Before you ask for smaller govt think about how many people will be without a job and unable to support their families. Don't be a selfish american just for self right pride. You are entitled to your opinion (1st amendment). My last comment to you is don't start an argument with someone who knows more than you. Because you are person who doesn't think a decision all the way through when they sprout about cutting programs.
sincereizhere 6 months ago
@sincereizhere Oh and that ominipotent one would be yourself? Are you so dumb that you think that every job the government employeee does could not be accomplished by a contracted employee? Nobody said the job wouldn't have to be done, but it doesn't need to be done by a Federal Employee. WE don't need to pay pensions and put up with all the union bullshit if we get rid of all Fed employees. As far as thinking things through, you haven't said a goddamn thing of any substance.
rrhynes 6 months ago
@sincereizhere Get rid o fthe DEA. What a waste of public money. A fight we cannot win and wouldn't know what to do with ourselves if we did. Legalize all drugs and tax them, but don't spend one nickel arresting people for the sale, production or use of them. Stop all aid to foreign countries. Eliminate all subsidies for anything. Your big government loves all of the above. Do you feel safer because of them? Probably not. Think you'll live longer? I guarantee not.
rrhynes 6 months ago
By the way, public eduation is a great thing. Let's let the states keep the money and eliminate federal involvment in education. That would eliminate a totally useless level of beuracracy. The states need to trim the fat too. I live in Calif and we're fucked because of big government. Anything I can do to get rid of govt employees is a great thing.

4n0nym0us0ne 7 months ago
I agree that Ed was way off base and completely rude, but he's not wrong. Ron Paul said in that clip that we should get rid of the Department of Agriculture, and as Ed said, it is in charge of food safety. I screws things up just like any big bureaucracy would, but that doesn't mean we get rid of it. That's like getting rid of the police because they have planted evidence to convict black people and participated in hangings.
halvor311 7 months ago
@halvor311 Nah, whenever you look at a government program, you have to ask yourself whether a private industry could replace the government's role. If at all possible, a private industry would almost ALWAYS do better than the government at managing literally anything. Proof of this is the fact that socialism didn't work and the fact that all our government managed agencies/industries etc. are extremely inefficient.
RKAddict101 7 months ago
@RKAddict101 really? I think most senior citizens on medicare would disagree with you on that, and private sector? LMFAO,, yeah they did a GREAT job with the mortgage deregulation, or about how the banks, or how about gm and ford needing tax payer money to save them from their mismanagement...or how about our wonderful monoply...er i mean free market health care system, where people pay thousands a year only when they actually get sick to have a team of adjustors find a way to deny them coverage
nappyweed111 7 months ago
@nappyweed111 The mainstream belief that the banks, etc. failed because of deregulation is completely incorrect. The real reason they failed is because of the lack of capitalism, not because of capitalism. The low interest rates created by the expansion of the money supply by the fed is meant to make people invest much more. Then they ask why people are making such risky investments. "Uh, I dunno, people were just making bad investments for some reason."
RKAddict101 7 months ago
@nappyweed111 As for our health care system, we don't have a free market health care system. Licensing takes a huge chunk out of possible medical care practitioners. When we have a system that forces doctors to go through a decade of expensive education (because the government is involved there as well), obviously medical prices will go up. This isn't capitalism, and people need to realize that. Sorry for two replies, by the way, character limit.

If the "american people" wanted a food monitoring agency, it would come about on a free market through private donations and fees paid by ag. companies who want their food certified by the private certification industry. Secondly, the Deparment of Ag creates a false sense of food security. Food today is full of heavily subsidized unhealthy corn byproducts and GMOs, and people figure it to be safe because it is government certified, but now we have record high diabetes and hypertension rates.
nogoodusernames100 9 months ago
@nogoodusernames100 I'd rather the government took care of food safety, thankyouverymuch. If it wasn't for the government, you'd probably still have human fingers in your hot dogs. You libertarians think the government is not good for anything. While it can be inefficient, having the government look after our food safety is better than some private company that only has profit on its mind and not the safety of its customers.
BigD1987 8 months ago
@BigD1987
If you want a food safety agency, why don't you and other concerned consumer come together to fund a private agency which through an established reputation(similar to moody's credit rating) could certify food safety. If your certification built up enough credibility to the point where consumers relied on your certification companies would have a financial incentive to ask for certification from you.
nogoodusernames100 8 months ago
@BigD1987 Also, what profit incentive does a company have to poison their food? Would they not face civil litigation and a loss of business? What incentive do they have to reduce their customer base?
nogoodusernames100 8 months ago
@nogoodusernames100 History has shown that without some kind of government oversight, corporations will put profit over people. A privately funded agency is not enough to police these corporations. That's where the government comes in, because they have the resources to police and regulate them. We may be a primarily industrial country, but our agricultural output is larger than that of the EU's. We need the USDA because private citizens may help, but they're not enough.
BigD1987 8 months ago
@BigD1987
You still haven't explained how you make a profit in providing a poisonous product. And the "profits over people" motto is a misnomer. Goods and services derive their value from consumers, profit is derived from the excess value after investment of the into the creation of a good or service. You don't make a profit unless individuals/consumers feel you provide subjective value
nogoodusernames100 8 months ago
@nogoodusernames100 When I said "put people over profit", I didn't mean that some company would put cyanide in their products (that's a dumb move). The long list of deadly and defective products that have hit the market should speak for themselves. I support a more efficient government agency. My big problem with the government is that it can be too inefficient (I am in no way a fascist; fascism isn't that efficient in the first place).
BigD1987 8 months ago
@BigD1987
Could you give me a list of those deadly and defective products? Secondly, if you do, you just prove my point, that the FDA doesn't protect consumers, can't protect consumers, and only consumers can properly regulate products and services by not buying them through boycotts or taking them to court.
nogoodusernames100 8 months ago
@nogoodusernames100 We have 405,377 Sq. miles of AgArea in this country. The EU has 140,627 Sq. miles. Someone needs to regulate that. Like I said, a private group may not have the resources to regulate all that, but the USDA does.
BigD1987 8 months ago
@BigD1987
You don't need preemptive and inefficient regulatory boards which breed cronyism.
nogoodusernames100 8 months ago
@nogoodusernames100 Government regulation is supposed to encourage competition. Teddy Roosevelt is admired because he was willing to stand up to large corporations with anti-trust and anti-monopoly laws. If left unregulated, these companies can swallow each other up and stifle competition. Also, civil litigation might not be enough. Those companies can afford the best lawyers around. The average Joe can't.
BigD1987 8 months ago
@BigD1987
What is the benefit of reducing your customer base by deliberately making them ill and thus losing business?
nogoodusernames100 8 months ago
@BigD1987

Any business doesn't want to sell you spoiled food and make you sick because no one would buy it or if they did and got you sick you could not only sue them, but the media coverage would put them out of business. it's happened before with no intervention by the government.

Wow he didn't even let Ron Paul defend his positions. All this was was Ed yelling at Ron Paul and Paul trying to get a word in
rhcprh 10 months ago
@rhcprh because he doesn't want reason that ron paul provides he just wants to shut his mind off.

I do.

@tjohn1986 even ron got a little worked up and i've never seen that from him. I would have likely jumped him too.

Schultz took Ron Paul's words out of context, his mainstream matrix studio also played a silly tune over him speaking and had some HD props there to make Ron Paul look insane.
If you really watch the video you'll see the same... unless you like being fooled by the magic on TV.

Considering how Ed and most Americans look, why should we be concerned about food 'security'?

Ron Paul thinks the Constitution was written by Jesus.
oldhacks 10 months ago
@oldhacks
Yeah, right. As a REAL Christian, he believes in the RULE OF LAW, which in the United States is supposed to be the Constitution, and that force is evil unless used to repel unjustified force. What do you believe in?

I don't agree with everything Ron Paul stands for , but anyone who stands up to shock jocks like Shultz deserve recognition !!

Schultz is not with me:
department of agriculture is allowing huge subsidizes the growing of high-fructose corn syrup.

Ed,....why you didn't let him to talk.Ron Paul is the smartest guy in USA.
mredzepi21 11 months ago
This guy is like a left wing O'Reilly. He would not allow the exchange of ideas, so he's not interesting at all. I support Ron Paul but the FDA is probably ok with me, although there are some abuses.
