My family is from Belfast, Northern Ireland, I've visited 6 times, such an amazing place, but I had a couple bad experiences. When I was 8 or 9 I was at the Orange Men's Parade when they started throwing nail bombs into the crowds. I didn't see any death where I was, but the panic scared the shit out of me. Then there was a man shot three times in the head at the end of my street, there was a crowd around him, but my friends and I went over and got a look at him, I'll never forget that picture.

I would just like to say this:
People on both sides were hurt, mistreated or killed and for what?
Regardless of the political opinion polls or survey's conducted it will take a long time for anyone to forgive let alone forget.
Say what you will about this post, I really don't care - all I ask is that you spare a though for all of those families, British and Irish alike who have suffered during these times, and that's all I'm going to say.

Combine this with the figure in the North, and you'll find that the majority of Ireland doesn't want to see it united. By law, a majority of people in the North would have to vote for it. Then a majority in the South would have to vote separately for a united Ireland, and ONLY then would it be considered. The demographics falsify your claim.

This survey actually occurred and is one of the most recent and comprehensive, check it out on your beloved google if you must haha. Do me the courtesy, as I have done you, of citing the source of your 80% figure. Until you do that, this 80% you plucked from the arsehole of google holds no weighting.

It's far less than 30%. It's about 10%, the percentage of people who consistently thought Barack Obama was a Muslim (not that it should have been a problem if he was) right up until election day. Ireland/the UK probably has a similar percentage of racists. When you have an Asian or African President/PM, then you can go around talking about American rednecks. And no, I've never been to Ireland. I am a very small part Irish, but that's pretty much irrelevant in America, where most white people are German, Scots-Irish (Protestant, people sometimes called "rednecks" in the States), and Irish Catholic.

Indeed, if Sinn Fein ever became the majority party then we would consider that a referendum would be on the cards. The Independent's survey was not without its controversies; especially regarding its classification of the strongly nationalist South Down area as lowly populated, therefore devaluing responses from this area.

My family is from Belfast, Northern Ireland, I've visited 6 times, such an amazing place, but I had a couple bad experiences. When I was 8 or 9 I was at the Orange Men's Parade when they started throwing nail bombs into the crowds. I didn't see any death where I was, but the panic scared the shit out of me. Then there was a man shot three times in the head at the end of my street, there was a crowd around him, but my friends and I went over and got a look at him, I'll never forget that picture.
