...and no The Clash played on the 2nd day. I don't recall the first group that appeared the 1st day, but after them the Stranglers played, then Depeche Mode and last Culture Club. The Stranglers & DM had the huge disadvantage of playing at daylight and it was bloody hot that day. And no there wasn't any racistic crap against gays involved either; Depeche Mode's keyboard player appeared in full make up with a leather skirt. IMHO the greatest performance of the 2 days went to Depeche Mode.

The part of the story with the roughly 200 folks that were allowed free entry just be4 CC appeared is true. One of them threw a half empty bottle at Boy George which nearly hit him. He threw it back and told them to shove it and they didn't stop throwing stuff until the end. I'm not so sure if he hadn't provoked the crowd that it would had turned out that way after all.

I saw in the backstage interview that George said sth about Greek people not having enough money to see a lot of concerts... and I kinda remember rumours about that... people were mad at him because he said Greek people were poor...

According to G's book, it was an all day govt. sponsored festival featuring a lot of diff bands, with "tension everywhere". Before CC even got there riots broke out - 200 anarchists demanded free entry. They finally broke thru and started throwing stones etc - CC was pelted as soon as they got on stage. Evidently, it wasn't aimed at CC specifically. What a sin - that concert looked AWESOME! BG was A-Mazing in spite of it all. What a professional!
