  • I don't know what I'm enjoying more; your animation (wonderful), or your answers to ol' Chucklehead McObsessive there. When I finally cross off the gazillion other things I would like to learn, I would love to learn this kind of CGI stuff. How's the learning curve, and what was your investment in software? Best, Hvy.

  • @Hvygunner Yeah, I don't know what was going on with him.

If you want to get into this type of thing, you really have to focus and spend the time, learn modeling correctly and don't get distracted. UDK isn't all that difficult to figure out, but if you don't know anything about 3D then it would be a lot of work to get there. For me I just use 3ds Max for modeling, Photoshop for texturing, and that's all the software that costs anything, UDK is free unless you sell what you make

  • I've modeled a Serenity too.) See the bottom of my channel.

That's a year old video, it's done and halfway textured now.

  • This looks great, up to the take off. That part just doesn't seem right to me, unnatural.

  • @TheRexion That's because the ship isn't moving, just the camera to make it seem like it's moving. That's because UDK doesn't do dynamic lighting very well so by keeping the ship from moving I can use better lighting.

  • @darthviper7 or u could had made the background move dumbass

  • @Eatmykum -1 for the internet

I will explain why that would have been a stupid idea.

For one, moving the background would be the same as moving the camera, except that I would have to move the light source as well, which would destroy the high-quality lighting (since UDK would then use dynamic shadows).

  • @darthviper7 why would u have to ruin the high quality lighting if one sided planes dont cast shadows or lighting unless emissive monkeyboy no its not the same as moving the camera are you stupid go study film making u scavenger

  • @Eatmykum You obviously have never used UDK. When you want something animated and moving it means that the shadows have to move as well, which means that the high quality global illumination shadows can't be used (since those are baked into shadow maps). So moving the light or moving the ship will cause it to use dynamic shadows, which take too much processing power. And they can't calculate light bounce.

  • @darthviper7 mother fucker obviously you didnt even read if you fucking move a background plane or material it doesnt affect the lighting and you can fucking make objects not affect the lighting of your chosen meshes you imbecill obviously you have barely used udk sicne you have no knowledge of its lighting systems like holy fuck but i guess you know better because u have worked more than me in the industry obviously merry christmas

  • @Eatmykum Lol you're hilarious. There's no background plate, this isn't a visual effects shot. The space stars are on a spherical mesh, your suggestion is to move them instead of the camera, but that would also require moving the main light (you know, the sun) and so that would screw up the lighting.

BTW, that's spelled "didn't" "doesn't" "imbecile" "since" "I" and "you"

Also don't forget your proper punctuation.

  • @darthviper7 lol youre only embarrassing yourself what plane im talking about planes not some plates the spherical mesh youre using is a plane and doesnt affect the dominant directional lighting besides why the hell would you even need to move the dominant directional light dumbass holy shit im done keep doing your amateur incomplete work for your portfolio maybe it will impress some kids who just started with udk few months ago lol

  • @Eatmykum If you're rotating and moving in space then all the environment lighting needs to move with it. BTW a sphere is not a plane. Although I think you mean plate, but neither is correct anyways.

Again, you have various grammatical errors. Correctly that would be "you're" "I'm" and "doesn't" (you missed that one before as well).

  • @darthviper7 the sphere used in UDK as a skybox is a plane. what the hell is a plate? you have absolutely no idea wht youre talking about so i wont even bother responding anymore. and its nice that u have to hide your lack of knowledge behind grammar. i wish u good luck and hope ur grammar gives u a job in ur field and lets u explain to ur boss how things that everyone is manages to do can't be done ^^

  • @Eatmykum The stars are on a sphere mesh that I created and imported into UDK. It's not a plane. A plane refers to a flat one dimensional mesh. Also, a skybox is not a plane, it's a box. You used the term plate. I had pointed out that it is a visual effects term (since the background would be called a plate) and so it does not apply here. Here are more grammar corrections for you: "what" "you're" "I" "won't" "you". You also started a sentence with a preposition.

  • Simply beautiful.

  • I don't suppose you would ever make the textures available for download? I've got a Serenity model in Max with no texturing; just a giant grey Firefly...

  • @DarkRavenhaft but the geometry is completeley different. itd take some major uv work to get them to fit and it probably wouldnt look right. unless your using the same model

  • @DarkRavenhaft The model is available for download with textures from foundation3d

  • AMAZING

  • man this is not burn animation this is Space Station :D

  • When you made it did you make the interior aswell? cos if you did that wouldbe epic :P

  • you have to make a firefly game man. you have no idea how much i would support that. please contact me and respond about that. im in

  • @BlenderHelixAlpha I will work for you, for free!

  • yes yes yes yes a thousand times boom rider!

  • tutorial?

  • Very nice work man ! ;)

I downloaded your demo, with the song it's beautiful !
