The Temps are my fathers favorite group, so i was raised listening to them. And I agree that Melvin's voice has one of the best bass tones i ever heard. As for best ever, i think Isaac Freeman of the Fairfield Four was a better bass singer. Just my opinion
Great Bass singers: J.J. Farley (The Soul Stirrers), Harold Statler (The Statler Brothers), Johnny Martin (The Mighty Clouds Of Joy), Pervis Jackson (The Spinners), Melvin Franklin (The Temptations), Ray Davis (The Parliaments). Just to name a few.
It is a shame that today`s generation will never know what real talent is. with today`s technology, the one thing that is not needed is TALENT.I hold this music dear to me and listen to it daily. The temptations to me was and still is the greatest singing group ever assembled. I am thankful I was around to witness these extremely talented men perform.
@Juan56falcon I agree. My father Cyril Clarke was and still is the ORIGINATOR of the CONTOURS and he does not get the respect he deserves. People don't even know that he was the baritone and bass singer for that group. This was BEFORE the big hit "Do You Love Me?"
Speechless! I'm tempted to give a standing ovation in front of my computer (explaining to my wife, sitting in the next room, that I'm not loosing my damn mind, prevents that ovation!). Outstanding vocal harmonies & flashy choreography have been trademarks of the "Tempts" since the very beginning. It's fantastic that they took the opportunity to showcase the late Melvin Franklin, perhaps the greatest Bass voice in the history of recorded music! His talent was truly unique, and IRREPLACEABLE!
God bless you Mel there will never be another.

I hadn't seen this song performed with this lineup before. Wonderful harmonies, especially on the opening.

they dont gi ve respect to basses anymore like this. nowadays people have to sing high and light to be good singers. that pisses me off.

Buty Melvin had that character, carisma, and charm. He had attitude when it came to bass. His vibe shined well high.
