This is a great video but I would like to see on youtube the whole process of designing a product! I find so many videos showing drawings and renderings when the concept is what makes an object valuable! As a design student, I can tell you that from concept to finished model, it takes a lot more hard work than this shows. And although many teams work together any good course will teach you need to do all by yourself before you get to team work!
Industrial design is much more than great rendering, a big part of the word is research. You don't need to do "realistic" renders to share the ideas, most of the times is easy to let them know what you're thinking by basic sketches.
product design is almost always a collaboration between designers. In USA, most studios put a heavy emphasis on process and research. ID is NOT just drawing pretty pictures and making sculptures. In the USA, its about bringing products to market considering demographics, processes and materials, ergonomics, problem solving, user testing etc. If you just want to draw all day, ID isnt the field for you. In the end clients want to see a product with market potential not a drawing
@JAFrk but in saying that, drawing is an essential. being able to renders that pop will definitely help you gain respect and differentiate yourself from other designers. its good for impressing potential clients and increase your own value especially in a corporate and studio environment
Thank you because posting this for the newest like me. I'm apart in these course, so the content is about light sources, colour and perspective. Brilliant technics :p
@MrVendetta003 You can download them I am sure somewhere but better yet to buy them and let Oliver make a living, instead of engaging in piracy. You can buy his videos on Amazon. I own them and they were both less than 50 bucks.
THESE VIDEOS ARE GREAT! I HAVE BOTH PART ONE AND TWO. if you are an industrial design student who wants to get better at marker rendering, get these! He is old school (pastel, marker and pencil) but these techniques translate into digital rendering as well. The techniques stay the same, whether on paper or digital! :) I suggest getting them at Otakafuel(dot)com. They are great!
@KyiMin Not if you get them through Icopic(dot)com or DickBlick(dot)com, where you get discounts the more you order and... in comparision to Prismacolors, Copics you can refill over and over. In the long run, Copics are a pricy investment but in the long run, they will be cheaper than buying Prismacolors over and over... which saves you money. :)
It's nice to see that marker rendering is alive and well. I have done thousands and thousands of product renderings - and then I became a fine artist (post design career) but - comment to the prior comment - the first thing you learn when rendering cars is that they all need to have puppy feet.
Not necessary. If you are a mechanical engineer and into design you need not be artistic you will be concentrated in stress analysis, load withstanding capacity and wear& tear and so on
but that would mean working side by side with a designer? as in ...u need the designer to come out with the idea or design first..den for further touch up by mechanical engineer
Yes, many teams work together to get final design. Its not only a person who is creative in art and visualization gets the job done and it is basically an optimizing process till the product attains manufacturing feasibility. Hope this answers your question.
