Ever wondered what happen to all the viper players? joe, dashio, FZ, kyabetsu, kayo police...the frustration of playing viper effectively got to them and they took a time off. The problem is once you play viper, you will never ever switch to another character. Uryo still has identity problems switching to sakura. Viper is a horrible match up for zangief as compared to Sakura

And FYI Mike Ross is IS College educated as is Gootecks who holds down a house and a car. The Majority of American players are college educated, well-adjusted, have compartmentalized lives and have their priorities straight. For you to come and sanctimoniously say they should concentrate more on school as if if they don't know any better or offer your pity as if they need it is sad. Even Daigo has a real job and he can afford to live off of his MC sponsorship, winnings, and events he does.

Playing video games is not a sustainable source of income. Marn lives with his parents. Mike Ross lives in a TINY studio apartment. Justin Wong spends his cash like it's gonna be there tomorrow when fighting games drop in popularity. They all spend 60+ hours/week on this and aren't gonna have much to show in 5 years when they have to attend some community college.

Some people work there whole lives, make a good living, retire, and then die without anyone ever knowing their name.

I never once mentioned money as a sign of success. I pursued biomedical research after medical school as opposed to becoming a physician. Trust me, I understand the importance of doing what you love.

You need money to cover rent/bills/food/utilities/taxe­s and that's before you get to your non-essentials like internet, a phone, a car, car insurance, etc. Gaming just doesn't cover that in the long run.

@SexTucan I definitely know what it takes to live and cover bills. But to some people, it's worth it to rough it out to be the best at something you love. No different than a band living on nothing to fund touring in order to "make it".

You can't help what you develop a passion for. It's a shame they are so dedicated to a discipline that won't take them very far financially but it's what they love. I would do the same thing in their shoes. A lot of people would. But to each his own.
