  • They look a lot like cryptophytes. What isn't seen in this video is a shot of the mother cells present in this culture. When division occurs Chlamydomonas forms cyst-like mother cells that are non-motile. Cryptophytes do not form cyst-like mother cells during division and remain motile, exhibiting up to four flagella.
