MyFriend, I didn't quite understand what sauce you use once you have the noddles, shrimps and vegetables already frying,.. One I that I saw was Soy Sauce but the other one? and you put sugar right ?
Hey Kai you do awesome videos. I just have a question. When i make chow mein it always turns out good but it doesn't look like in a Chinese restaurant and i feel that it lacks sauce it's not as "saucy". So my question is are the measurements important because i add the sauces just by feel. Oh and could you also tell me what noodles you use?
Hoisin sauce, Oyster sauce, soy sauce. This recipe is really no different than lo mein with shrimp. A tsp of sesame oil added at the very end will give it a very nice restaurant style taste. You might also enjoy experimenting with different types of soy sauce. This dish would also be good using double dark soy or dark mushroom flavored soy sauce. You can also be more heavy handed with the sauces and just cook them in, for a stronger flavor. Minced garlic & ginger would add greatly to this dish.
gotta give this video thumbs down because i cant understand when he says which sauces to use. he should really put a caption saying what the ingredients are..................
although i have been aware that i have it backwards for a long time, more than 10 years, for me i've allways though of that a lo mein while i think of chow mein as the one with the dry noodles you add when you go to eat it. but i'm an ignorant (and in this case apparently backwards) american. anyway it looks tasty, and as with allot of chinese food very fast to make.
@Aimanrulez there is no nonstick, who gives a shit if you scratch it. and dont try to say "you get metal in your food" there is allready metal there before you cook it. its just a little iron, and the shards from the scratches will be about as small as the iron in an iron suplement pill.
I can't actually check the heat for my stove...on a typical 1-10 stove...how high would I need to go to get 300* 350* and 400*? So I can guage from the levels, not the temp.
Wicked vid Thanx!! -- I tryed it and it was ok but the taste was bit dif and the noodles weren't brown enough :( I think it's cos i skipped the hoiseen source (soz 4 spelling)
Aahh...uhm....I hear using metal utensils w/ a non-stick frying pan or wok can scratch the non-stick surface....and that it can cause cancer D: So it might be best 2 use plasic/wooden utensils nxt time :)
I'm going to make it a point to cook this one day very soon. Is that Yngwie Malmsteen at the end? It makes for the most intense Chow Mein I've ever seen, haha.
so i just got done making/eating this and i was missing one apparently vital ingredient: oyster sauce
i'm not sure why but for some reason it tastes...christmasie................i think maybe it's the housin (sp?) sauce and the lack of oyster sauce...it's still amazing...but with just a hint of christmas to it...?
@CG1922000 i think he used Seafood sauce and Oyster sauce..u can get them in oriental market...go to the sauce shelves and notice there is a brand called "Lee Kumkee"(something similar...), which has the best sauce. I have tons of them in my fridge.!
I love this food and its cool that rather than going out and paying $15 for a tray i could go to the store and pay ~ $25 and make some for the hole family :D love this so much thanks!!!
I have tried many of your dishes and they all turn out fantastic. Please keep the videos coming I'm saving a ton of money on Chinese food. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge.
Oyster sauce is used in Chinese restaurants in probably half of the dishes they make. If you have eaten Chinese food, then you've had oyster sauce. Maybe you aren't as allergic to all fish as you think.
@MrPlanx Yes, I am allergic. I think I know my own body. I don't eat in Chinese restaurants for that reason. I was just curious if they put it in chow mein or just certain dishes.
