I haven't ran the truck in a long time. At least since I got my LST XXL, inwhich is were this motor currently resides. I changed to a short conical header so that I could run a 1 piece pipe, in whih I got fairly good results with both a 086 and an OS 2050. Ithink a 053 would be perfect for this motor and truck, as it has better bottom end, yet can still scream.
mods: servos, fix linkage, alloy carriers, and engine
I think the half tank lean is tuning related, I tune all my engines on a half tank anyways, so I never have that problem. all nitros will lean as the tank empties. With less fuel in the tank, it takes more pressure from the pipe to feed the engine By tuning from half tank to empty, you'll make sure that you are not too lean at the end of the tank. It runs a little rich on a full tank, but still has plenty of performance. as the tank empties, it leans out a tad and starts kicking ass again.
@DawgBone HEY need a little help i live in CANADA and say its summer and my savage xls engine is too hot do i lean it or reackin it? thanks and what do i do for winter
Yes.. The original engine's rotostart gears broke from a hydrolock, and it didn't make all that much power anyways... o I replaced it with a NovaRossi 28-7 that I retrofitted to rotostart by using a Nova 528XRS crank... I think they now make th 28-7 in rotostart...
the rossi 28-7 turbo is the shit...alot of people dont know about that $300.00 39,000 rpm beast!!!perfect choice and no rotostart yet, bump start only.good vid bro!!
jalit, its a 2-stroke motor, it is bad to hold full throttle on a two stroke. i would hope you wouldnt hold constant low throttle say on a honda CR-250 or worse even hold a higher constant throttle. Also take into account that an RC engine engine like this is running and this is no typo 30,000-35,000rpm at top throttle. his blipping of the throttle is very much justified.
This is the Nova 28+7... I baught it before Nova posted their roto start version on their Italian website... I have yet, to see their roto version in the states...
I actually used their 528XRS crank and RB's roto conversion for their 728/928 engines to be able to use the HPI roto system...

This engine has alot more TQ, better running characteristics, life, and all out power than the LRP...
I agree...It wasn't clearing out fast enough... I think I purposely was a little rich in that video, as I had just finished breakin not long before...
I'm trying to warm up the motor... I have my LSN tuned lean and HSN fat.. These motors run rich when cold and with a full tank... So I blip the throttle to keep the engine burning clean... So until you know what you're talking about, STFU about the throttle blips...
Besides, if I held the throttle open, it would wheel stand onto it's back, and I don't care to waste video being that I have to run over to it to put it back onto it's feet...
The throttle doesnt have to open in the full position... There is something called partially open throttle. You can warm the engine up by keeping a constant low throttle. (It's better for the engine than blipping)
if your "stock" savage xl goes 70+, then a: you managed to get the only stock r/c truck in the world that can do that & b: you would have an incredibly hard time controlling it. emphasis on "incredibly"... close to "impossibly".
"your dumb" - you're* the definition of "dumb" jackass. "my friends do stock" - you DO stock, really? "we got them going 72" - measured by? "so eat weiner"? you sound incredibly intelligent; enough said.
It hits 3rd.... I just have 1st set real low, as it's borderline pointless...being that the motor has enough power to start in 2nd....beig 1st gear-less actually makes it accelerate faster without having to fumble around with a gearshift
you should turn the most right screw of the gearbox about 1.25 turn couterclockwise. Be sure to turn the right screw couse there are 2 (turn the screw which isnt in line with the axle!!!) also see the manual. i wish mine would shift to 2nd earlier, a bit like the one on this vid, but i dont wanna take my gearbox apart. Hope u understand my dutch english :P
I like the video though and I have been looking at the NovaRossi engines. I posted some high speed runs with a Picco P3 in an XL chassis, if you get bored, come check it out.

@TheRockisSmokin
Ideally during summer you can lean it more, and winter you'll need to richen it more...
But if your motor is running hot, regardless, you will need to richen it(counterclockwise)

Not really... it's a different story on the pavement...
On dirt..it's perfect... If I was to soley run on asphault with a MT, then yes...you would be correct...
Really, it was great on the pavement, for that specific motor's powerband...

Thanks... I did have to move 3rd gear about a full turn... and 2nd nearly half turn...
In low traction/dirt, it actually revs out higher in each gear... But really, the motor has enough power to skip 1st all together...

where'd my reply go? loosen the most right screw in the gearbox about 1.25 turn counterclockwise (look in manual!)
also take out the suspension spacers to lower the car a bit. It wont wheely as much and doenst flip over so easily
