Balckmore is great at guitar and created a great band with Rainbow, they just weren't as good without Dio, but the reason he left Rainbow, I read was there was a clash of egos. What I read was that Dio did not like that Blackmore got the attention for creating the band and being so great at guitar, while Dio knew his vocals were great. They both were right, Rainbow was better with Dio at vocals. That kind of stuff happens with famous bands down to small time bar bands.

Saw Rainbow live in the mid-70's a few times. Not very good. It seemed like RB was just fooling around, no respect for the audience.
