@Jazet21 It would be silly to use muffle rings on this kit. The point is that it has a great resonant sound. If you wanted a muffled down kit with no sustain, buy a Pearl vision and some moon gels.
@jazzemondante Our typical package with these is the drum set and hardware, no cymbals. Coated head on the snare and floor toms, clear on the bass and rack toms. Single ply.
@peterz193 Just actually got the X7's from this year's DW lineup in. It's always hard to say "better" across brands, they have different sound qualities. Really love the modern feel and hardware on the shells of those DW's.
@greenbrierpercussion sweet! would you say this kit or the silverstar is better? I was looking at the silverstar to. Price isnt really that big of an issue because i was going to get a tama starclassic but i didnt like the size of the toms. Definitely this or the silverstar though
@ironmaidenbro I'd say this kit is better if you like a wide open sound, and the silverstar is better if you like a tight controlled sound. Two different kits. The starclassic is good, but if you want custom tom sizes go for a gretsch renown or gretsch USA. It's a far more customizable kit and we have so much in stock.
Hey i had a question for ya. Im starting to get into drums and i was wondering if these drums would be good for hardrock- to original metal music. These drums sound great otherwise. If you could get back to me that would be great, thanks.
@ironmaidenbro Absolutely. This is our best selling drum set right now. You can get a free hardware pack with a kit if you buy it from us too, 540 372 DRUM. My only other thought would be a Tama silverstar. A little more expensive, but its a great kit too. I did a rundown on kits under a grand on the forums of greenbriermusic's website.
@KTVX94 I am a very hard hitting drummer so these toms actually sound really good when played hard. This guy in this video is a light player and he had just one mic on all three mounted toms. This is a whale of a deal. Almost too good to be true however I know these guys and have purchased many items from them in the past and this is one of the best online stores you will find on the internet.
@GreenbrierPercussion These particular set of Gretsch smoke any of the new Ludwig sets I have played in the past ten years or longer. This is an amazing deal. $729.00. Wow!! I use all Yamaha and DW hardware. My girlfriend just started playing and taking lessons from one of Prince's recent drummers. He is endorsed by Sonor and got her a set very cheap however these Gretsch easily blows away her Sonor set and cheaper as well. 7-Ply Catalina Maple. One Helluva set for the buck!!
I love your reviews and they are very helpfuI!! I am looking into purchasing a brand new drumset. I was wondering what drumset you would prefer for country music.
Hey Guys, I've recently been looking at these Gretsch kits but can't seem to find one to play myself, I was wondering how you think they would stack up against my current kit, I've got a Tama Starclassic Performer with fully Birch shells (not the new birch-bubinga series)... i think its a great sounding kit, but was just looking for what else is out there, any opinions would be great, cheers.
@TheStooge56 Those birch starclassics are pretty oustanding drums, I think you'd be looking more in the Gretsch Renown series to have a quality/feel/construction match with the Starclassics in the Gretsch line. We have a few different renown videos on our channel, it won't let me re-link here, but I think if you're wanting apples to oranges on even footing between your old kit and the Gretsh that's the way to go!
Quick question guys, I'm looking at a new kit. Right now I have a Vision VX. I'm wondering how one of these would stack up, also against the Silverstars? I really dig the finish on the Catalinas and the Silverstars so, playingwise, what is the opinion?
@furcifur3 depends on whether you prefer maple or birch? Silverstars are all birch. The catalinas are offered in birch or maple. The tamas in my opinion look sharper than the gretsch. I havent played the silverstar so I dont know how well it sounds. Your VX kit Id imagine dont sound that bad and ether of these kits would be more of a side grade as oppose to an upgrade.
Silverstar kits have more robust, comfortable hardware. They have tighter controlled tones like the vision, but with better texture and a wider response range. The catalina plays with ringier tones and has longer sustains. Great with clear G2 evans heads. I play the gretsch because it lends it self to my style. I recommend you pick that up unless you're a harder rock guy - then check the silverstar or an MCX!
@GinSabre This kit sings longer and plays more openly - warmer shells. A VML is a heavy weight modern shell with robust hardware. It resonates warmly, but with tighter controlled tones. The Gretsch sound is superior for jazz influenced sounds, alternative, rock, etc. While Pearl is stronger with metal influenced sounds like heavier rock, metal, and modern fusion reggae sounds. What do you play?
@GreenbrierPercussion Honestly everything! If someone were to listen to my style they would say I resemble Mike Portnoy, Mike Mangini, Dave Weckl. I currently have a Yamaha Stage Custom (Birch) I do not care for the sound of this kit at all. I'm looking to drump it for something more traditional sounding. The best Kit I ever owned was a 1997 Pearl prestige session select. I dont remember what those shells consisted of. Should've never sold the kit. Recommendations. Looking to buy within a month
@GreenbrierPercussion also, to add to that, I own the kit and when i mic it people ask me "are they triggered?"..... so yeah that is what they sound like, and yes I know how to tune so buy this kit from them you won't regret it and it goes well with Sabian cymbals that they have great deals on, trust me, peace!!
I'm looking for a new set to replace my Pearl Forum series since I'm being more active in performances and gigs. I want to get a 6-7 piece set that plays a wide range of genres such as: Rock, Pop, R&B, Jazz, Afro Cuban, Gospel, Ballad, Latin, and etc. I'm stuck between Pearl, DW, Gretsch, and PDP because they all sound really great, but I don't want a set that's expensive. Any advice or preference you are willing to share for an upcoming drummer such as myself?
@BxRad193 Maybe look into the pearl vision series, we have a few of those videos up. I think for the price they are really great versatile drums. Or the 7pc Catalina maple of course.

can anyone help me with my snare? i have the same kit. i really cant tune my snare with these stock heads. :( how did you tune you snare there? please... :(
@drumelimination this is an amazing kit. the best ive had in my drumming years. the NUMBER ONE THING i LIKE ABOUT THIS KIT is that if your tuning skills are up to par, this kit will sound superficial when mic'd and mine sound just like these, very consistent, people ask me everytime I use them for (Church) gigs, are they triggered, and although I am honored that they think my tuning skills compare to a computer all the while its a put down, funny tho....lol!! But you will not be dissappointed
Hey Stephen I am ordering the Gretsch Catalina Club Jazz Drum Set Mint Green Fade from you tomorrow and some xs20's, I am pretty excited about it! Thanks again for your help and awesome demos!!
@GreenbrierPercussion It all sounds perfect, the only thing I noticed was that the snare had a lot of harmonics and not complete vibration had that normally should have been because you wanted to be like that or is that the instrument nopuede reach that pitch me your honest opinion of the battery, sorry if I have errors because I'm from Spain Thanks!
Hey Stephen, I have a question about what drum set, symbols, and heads would be good for the sound i want to create. I am a guitar player mainly but I was a drummer in high school and have messed around for years on them but now i am to the point where i want to buy my own set for live sets and living recording. I play music similar to Radio Head/Coldplay/MuteMath...anyway i have watched every video you have posted for symbols and sets and I just want to make sure i spend my money well.
@sofakingwetadid Hey there, This catalina has all stock Evans G1 heads that came with it, except the resonant kick side head (upgraded to an evans emad which makes a big difference). I used HHX evolution Sabian cymbals for this video, with gibraltar hardware. I really like the gibraltar stealth racks for mounting toms and cymbals - I won't use anything else for my kit. For your sound, I recommend HHX evolution or HHX Legacy series cymbals ideally, but XS20 is a good budget option.
Is this kit better then the Gretsch Catalina Club rock?
tobiasen76 13 hours ago
@tobiasen76 Far better; the maple shells on this are warmer sounding than the mahogany rock kit, and the tone quality is far superior.
