Been a fan of hers since she first hit the charts. Was a DeeJay and played this song when it first came out. In 1983 she played at The Loadin' Chute in Temple, Texas. I walked up to the stage and she knelt down and held my hand while she sang this song. I thought I would melt.

Surprised that nobody has mentioned the real meaning of the song - it's about Christ and the crucifixion. I'm not a particularly religious person myself, but if you listen to it with that story in mind, the verses make even more sense than they do in just the context of a relationship (why would you ever ask a spouse if they'd 'go away to another land, walk 1000 miles through the burning sand' for you, for example? But this was exactly what was asked of the Apostles).
