  • A very attractive and excellent example of country music.

  • my dad played this song for me when i was 7 years old and i've loved it ever since.

  • always be special to me

  • repeat!!!

  • Classic country, nobody could duplicate her performance of this song.

  • love the Tanya songs

  • @56jaob Written by David Allen Coe.

  • this is what music sounds like .garbage rappers.

  • Been a fan of hers since she first hit the charts. Was a DeeJay and played this song when it first came out. In 1983 she played at The Loadin' Chute in Temple, Texas. I walked up to the stage and she knelt down and held my hand while she sang this song. I thought I would melt.

  • Tanya sang a song in a movie on stage around 1976. I believe the title may have been 'We'll Show Them All Someday.' Is anyone aware of this song?

  • Saw her when I was stationed in Korea back in 85, great performer.

  • I heard a band in Nick's play this one night...we all stopped dancing and stood there mesmerizied...when the song was over...standing ovation took the roof off...

  • This song reminds me of my sons fathers broken promises. But I've got the best son in the whole wide world; so it's ok.

  • @Debbyiamme Does the same for me, but I have the best daughter. He is (they are the losers and in time they will know what they threw away for a fling), I wish you the best. Love is suppose to be this way, honest true and devoted, anything less is not love.

  • Written by David Alan Coe.......beautiful song!

  • for roger - i love you always...

  • Someone correct me, But wasnt she about 15 years old when she made her first album which this song is on. Still my favorite TRUE country singer (female)

  • @Duke4Reuti miss tucer was 13 I believe

  • @Freyja1133 Thanks friend.

  • @Duke4Reuti you're welcome

  • Thank you for the lyrics and your voice. They open doors and windows in my own search for HOW TO LOVE!?

  • My First Love used to sing this too me! :0 Long time ago! :)

  • I agree completely!!

  • @256NatLiz - "I thirst". They held up a sponge attached to a hyssop branch for him to drink from while he was on the cross. Which is really more just wetting one's lips than say, drinking from a glass would be. :)

  • wish i had a guy to do this

  • This song sounds eerie close to the Christian classic I'm gonna fly away in a robe of white. Just sayin"

  • Surprised that nobody has mentioned the real meaning of the song - it's about Christ and the crucifixion. I'm not a particularly religious person myself, but if you listen to it with that story in mind, the verses make even more sense than they do in just the context of a relationship (why would you ever ask a spouse if they'd 'go away to another land, walk 1000 miles through the burning sand' for you, for example? But this was exactly what was asked of the Apostles).

  • @stargazer1967 Oh my gosh! I've been listening to this tune since I was in early teens, I've always been confused at the lyrics and I think your explanation is the most accurate I've ever heard! Every verse in this song makes sense now..honestly, it has to be about Christ. This tune is more amazing to me now than I thought possible!

  • @stargazer1967 Except the wetting of lips. I don't get how that could be.

  • @stargazer1967

I always knew it was about Christ. That's one of the reasons I've always thought it was so lovely. Just an amazing, beautiful song. :)

  • I Think this song is awesome. It means to me about living as a couple through it all until death do they part. I wish I had that in my life. What more can a person ask?

  • when mywife wasdieing and ihad to change her clothes i still laid with her. like this song says love is it .i stil think of cindy. what a lovely song

  • one of the best songs david allan ever wrote.

  • As much as I like Delta Dawn, I like this even more.

Tanya is truly one of a kind. Bravo!!!

  • yes..David Allen Coe did in fact right this song.

  • Totally awesome song. What more can I say than it is one of my all time favorites.

  • good song

  • @CrystalStarrBell That is so great. I wish I could have married a guy like that. I am divorced. My guy was defiintely the opposite of that.

  • This song goes directly into my heart !! I can hear it again and again and again... I simply adore it !! Thanks Tanya

  • I first heard this song , a few years ago .. It stuck a chord , for me & for others as we heard it played , before heading overseas .. It still holds something , words can not express...

  • This is the real Tanya like she used to be before the new country forced her to concede to these newbie country fans. Good ole' Twang. Tanya had it at 13 years old!

  • This song was written by another Texas original: Cindy Walker (July 20, 1918 – March 23, 2006) of Mexia. A true Texas treasure lost!

  • @SirBearJones

I believe this was written, uncharacteristically, by David Allen Coe.

  • @dawnwarden1 It was; he wrote it on the occasion of his brother's wedding day I believe.

  • when growing up listening to tanya we had a short poem that we would quote every time one of her songs played on the radio: oh pretty tanya tucker, oh how we want to MEET her.

  • Now this is PROPER country music.

  • would you........................

  • you dod need ask or talk where there XXX 2 all

  • Beautiful.. Thanks you.

  • Well, this song isn't about asking for the Moon ,,, its just about asking ones, Partner , to be there if needed .....

  • this song ask will you be trough the hard time of christ and it a pretty song my husband and i like it

  • Tanya,This is my favirot song i grew up with you.I wish i would have got to meet you I probley never will.Keep singing please,Thanks.

  • What an awesome voice amazing!!!!

  • 1 of the best country female artists of all time. Pure country n her voice. No American Idol giveaway 2 Nashville here. She earned her spot n history.

  • @MultiHotrod1 you are a 200% right! This song and her voice brings tears to my eyes... so much feelings...

  • one of the greatest women singers

  • She had and still does have such a seductive voice. Just beautiful.

  • why wasn't I born earlier.

  • @foryourpussy Yes, I'm sure that would have made all the difference.

  • This is really good!

  • I miss Country. I hail from 1966 and I'm not dismissing anyone's talent who is around nowadays, but the sound of the honky-tonk and the Southern Gothic themes are gone. Now it's pretend teen angst, Skynrd on the 13th carbon, and prefab, mallrat rebels. I do grow old.

  • would you lay with me dalejr. : )

  • Rosie..what seems to be your major malfuntion

  • oh course I would your gorgeous, have you seen youself lately,a beautiful woman I saw you

    damn your gorgeous!

  • Comment removed

  • can we keep the language clean??? come on..... oh and please don't take the Lords name in vain...very tacky

  • i don't think it's a matter of being sensitive...I think it's a matter of being respctful for other people on ''the world wide web"!!!!!

  • Great song not 1974 cut

  • Amen to that

  • yes these words were written to be wedding vows. written by one of the best song writers out there Mr. David Allan Coe

he also wrote Johnny Paycheck's take this job and shove it. he sings and co wrote in a way? he provided some of the lyrics at the end of -you never even called me by my name Coe is a bad ass hardcore Outlaw....

  • Surely Country music is whatever it evolves into. New Country music is neither good nor bad its just 'New Country' and you will like some of it and hate some it. As the man says ...'It aint wrong its just different'

  • i think it's "he aint wrong, hes just different" and his pride wont let him do things to make you think hes right...

  • Yeah I was paraphrasing......but you obviously know where i was going

  • Warlordtim, Amen to that!...I can't listen to the new country, it's so fake---generic garbage in cowboy hats. No more greats like Jones, Cline, Faron Y., Brenda L., L.Lynn, Pride, etc. Miss that stuff!

  • you can go away ,and not listen to Tanya for a while, but when you come back , she will still blow you away with her awesome raw magnificent American voice, One of the best of the best

  • great song

  • she sure can rattle a cage,she's good,GO TANYA

  • Tanya is true Country ..Tanya is true Sexy

  • I love tanya!!

  • All the great country music singers all almost all gone or no longer singing. They will be forever missed.

Todays new style country music has no feelings. They are clueless as to what country music is all about.

  • Try Jill Johnson! Try "Kärleken är",

or "Nathalie", a song from when Sweden in a few days had suffered three tragedies:

    1. Nathalie was found, killed by her boyfriend) . 2. Our foreign secretary Anna Lindh was killed. 3. A five-year old girl was killed in Arvika by someone who is mentally ill.

Not only is she a great singer, she is also good to look at.

  • @KajsaArg Dear Person , you sent your message 11 MONTHS AGO ,, This song , has much meaning for me, but, not mine to say now .. I am sorry for the pain you have felt .. I hope that if you see this message , that , you may have been able to heal .. All the very Best

  • You know something reading comments are like reading the back of most behinds, as in most comments are just that from the ass's of the ones whom type them, if comments are made, why not keep them nice, we all have our moments in life in what or how we shall speak of what we think, long story, just that most of what we see in artists is more then most of us will become, dont you agree, lets not pick pick pick... just take it and go with it is all, america would be proud

  • one of the greatest voices ever

  • To me this song asks " will you be with me through EVERYTHING/ANYTHING I think we all hope/wish for this much love and devotion

  • @melliott3707 But how many deserve this?

  • @melliott3707 VERY well said, I think we all feel that way!

Puts a lump in my throat, Tanya owns this song!

  • No matter what its about, she has one of the greatest voices in the history of country music

  • People used to get their knickers in a twist when this song came out, thinking it was about a woman propositioning a man. I was only 9 years old when this song came out but it was clear to me these lyrics were wedding vows. Apparently, judging from some of the comments, people haven't changed.

Listen to the lyrics...all the lyrics. Good grief.

  • What is a field of stone...a cemetary..is this song about being together forever...

  • She is asking just how far her man would go for her.

  • yes a field of stone is a grave yard, eternal

love from the Great David Allan Coe, a bad ass with the soft heart and a God given talent to write awsome songs....

redneck, tatoos and Jack Daniels if you please!!!

  • This is soo Tanya's song I dont think anyone could sing it better! A+++

  • Love Ya Tanya! Your the best..; )

  • this is definitely Tanya's song, she sings it beautiful,Go Tanya!!!!!!!!

  • You Betcha!

    Awsome Lady!

  • Great song*** luvit***

  • Both David's and Tanya's rendition are very well done. I can't say which is better...It's a great song by two very gifted performers!

    3923

  • thanks for the good memories.

  • David Alan Coe wrote this one but Tanya Tucker's cover was the hit. He actually had two versions of this song and her one version was still the hit.

Stop teasin' me, damn it! lol

  • I have her best song on audio, no video.... How does one upload a song on Youtube?

  • ive been asking guys this for a long time, but they all say "HEll no!"

  • ya ive heard other artists sing this but shes the best in my opinion. Fantastic voice and pitch.

  • D.A.C.!!!

  • Hell yeah... DAC owns this song... no comparison..

  • Yeah Tanya!! Your the best!!

  • As much as I love David Allen Coe I agree that Tanya is in a league of her own in this song.

  • I LOVE TANYA!!!!!

    :-)))))

  • I love this song and Tanya Tucker

and im 16 =)never gets old!!!

  • she was only 16 when this was recorded

  • she's the best. My sister used to listen to one of her albums all the time when I was a kid... now I've got most of her albums as an adult.

  • Fantastic

  • Tanya Tucker is an excellent country singer....she definitely deserves more respect and better recognition especially from people in the music industry.

  • This song is beautiful and nobody does it better; not even David Allen Coe (and he agrees). This is truly a love song and done by a 14 year old girl who couldn't possibly have really understood it at the time - and yet she sang so many songs so deeply. A rare gift indeed.

  • I Love Tanya

  • my heart melts each time i hear her voice.... had i chance to see her in person.. outstanding..

  • Old David Allen fan, and Tanya well she was just a kid. She is awsome. Looking for her singing the Beatles song. SOMETHING

  • This is one of my favorite songs! Thanks for posting : )

  • what an ass hole you are! its not like she is brittany spears or paris hilton or anyone like that.

  • Yeah, isn't that what that lifestyle and that era was all about!!! Who didn't "lay" with everyone at one time or another?

  • The field of stone in this song is a cemetery! It is a wedding song. The question is will you love me until death do us part.

  • ignorant.

  • There will never be anyone like her, beautiful song and great singer!!

  • CCrowder. Thanks for the David Allen Coe hint. I always thought Townes Van Zandt wrote this, but he wrote "If I needed you" with exactly the same melody and a similar sentiment. Was there a common older source?

  • there is no one like tanya, she just has that voice,to where you have stop everything and sing along with her. she is the best and always will be.love ya tanya

  • nice song ..i love it

  • nice song ..i love it

  • Many thanks to the genius of David Allan Coe.

  • I love this song!!

  • Funny how she ended up looking like Tammy Wynette's twin sister.

  • D.A.C.'s version is great but personally I think this is a better cover.. when she sings "would you go awayyy.." her voice just sounds awesome.

  • some great oldies.

i have not heard in a long time.

  • This song is absolutely wonderful.

  • love this song...johnny cash did an excellent cover of this as well

  • Great song...and yes Tanya was young, but DAC's version is AWSOME

  • one of the greatest

  • Oh, D.A.C.s version is much be... Give me a break. Tanya Tucker was 15 when she recorded this song.

  • do you have DAC's version?

  • David Alan Coe's version is much better and more emotional. This is mine and my husband's song.

  • my friend tiffany jo miller is related to tanya tucker isnt that weird hahahah she s kinda ugly tanya tucker not her

  • needs more emotion...check dave coe's version

  • If I sent you my email would u send me the song file?
