My mother is Irish mostly, and Swedish + English. My roots are most likely just northern european then, right? the viking art affected the britonic art as well. very interesting. Cheers from Canada

  • @Bearliners Interesting.

  • I love that country.

  • if you want to listen to real norwegian folk music, look up Finntroll - Galgasång

  • @ck0ez Dependent what period(Arve is traditional, Finntroll much more Rock), what songs and with what instruments. I think It's only with this song, because Finntroll is Heavy Metal. Question to point of view.

  • @treblechoir99 Folk metal band precisely.

  • @treblechoir99 the kind of music in Fintroll's song Galgasång is like the traditional folk music in the viking time, around year 1000.. in my opinion it's much better than the kind of music in this video :)

  • @ck0ez Of course I don't say It's bad. I would saying It's different approach, dependent what you prefer.

  • @ck0ez As much as I agree with you.. Finntrolls lyrics are in swedish and the band is from Finland

Just askng, where is the norwegian part?

Hør på Storm - Oppi fjellet :D

  • NYDELIG! Nettopp begynnt å oppdage folkemusikk.... UTROLIG vakkert.

Evt. andre gode tips til lignende kvalitetsmusikk i Norge? Viktige band og artister...?

  • Hyggelig :)

  • hey biatches i need this shit for free for school someone wanna help me out?

  • I don't get it. First it's a he, and now I hear a she.

  • @AkiRyuuhane

Its a prepubecent young boy. They sing beautifully like women.

  • @shazam15 Right, I had figured it out, I'm sorry for the confusion, but he really singed beautifully. :)

  • who the hell cares about any of the shit you're talking about right now.

this is music. a language anyone can understand, and all can come together under. it's beautiful and it's a tradition.

    maybe music is god.

  • Such beauty! I unwittingly let my life get filled with garbage, on tv, the computer, etc. Then when I hear something like this, it reminds me that it's just as easy to fill it with joy and loveliness. Thank you for sharing!

  • The first one is really beautiful. The text was written in 1732 by the Danish poet H. A. Brorson. Dear Norwegian brethren :-)

  • @nisgel Thank you for this info, appreciat.

  • Super! Excellent song! Wonderful images!

  • This is wonderful - We all in Europe, need to hang on to our indigenous culture's . Greetings from Scotland (Alba)..

  • When talking of any ethnic group, nationaliy or religion the use of the word "they"

to indicate the entire group also indicates that the speaker or writer is either of low intelligence or has an evil agenda he wishes to pursue.

    Aled

  • @ifuliki you say "to indicate the entire group[...]"

    the word "group":

"A group is a number of things or persons being in some relation to one another."

Germans: THEY are people who share citizenship in Germany. That is what this group has in common.

Muslims: THEY are people who share a belief in the Koran. That is what this group has in common. Different interpretations aside, I say this book is utterly steaming with hate, violence, bigotry and inequality.

So I say THEY are full of shit.

  • @BIasphemer " a belief in the Koran"........"I say this book is utterly steaming with hate, violence, bigotry and inequality" So is the bible; REALLY!. Did you ever read it?. I was brought up on it.

    Aled

  • @ifuliki first reasonable thing you've said, the bible is indeed shit. robert crumbs version of genesis is a blast though, i recommend reading it

  • @BIasphemer Well thanks. I never imagined I would live to this age and not say something reasonable before. You are so perceptive. The bible is good literature, explains how our western culture and belief system arose. It does give some comfort to the young, weak minded or hateful. I believe that Christ was a good fellow who had some great ideas although as a thinking teen I rejected all the supernatural gobbledegook contained in the book. I shall research Robert Crumb. Thanks.

    Aled

    .

  • @ifuliki well spoken.

  • Speechless. Beautiful and moving.

  • Wow this song brought an intense feeling of beauty.... my whole family back to 1617 are Norwegian and they migrated to North Dakota, US..... i am going to Norway after i graduate from the university. But am going to visit next year around summer time for 3 weeks. I love my norwegian heritage and i am proud to be Norwegian !

  • Ohhh so beautiful songs... where did youu find the first photo of the video? Could I have it? :):)

  • beautiful folk song! I enjoyed listening to it .. greetings from Saudi Arabia :)

  • I have to say it is really nice. Greetings from Eastern Europe!

  • Jeg elsker norge, Danmark-Norge forevigt <3

  • nice voice*♪*

  • breathtaking

  • Absolutely amazing.

  • Sad and Wonderfully Beautiful in the same time!

    Thanks for musically pleasure!

    Greetings from Georgia!

  • Stunning.

    5 *****

  • These 'sacred folksongs' are great, but the arrangements on this CD and even more so the one Bergset recorded as an adult are sugary. That is true of the one here (Mitt hjerte alltid vanker), but the tune and especially the voice carry it.

The early album Den litle fuglen contains the sacred folk song Den bortkomne sauen (the lost sheep). This is the theme to Fargo, and I'd love to hear Bergset singing it. Any leads?

  • being of swedish /danish ancestry i found this song amazing..

this is wonderful, the rest of the world should know!!

  • @odinmp5 You dont have be to from Swedish/danish ancestry to find this amazing because I'm not and I love this song, it is amazing!!!

  • Thank you, very appreciat.

  • @treblechoir99 Incredibly moving. What is the name of this folk song? I've heard it a lot.

  • @RogueRotting360 3 titles in my description.

  • beautiful.I love Scandinavian...

  • please make a karaoke/instrumental version <3 its so good <3

  • here is the second text (the last song)

    this is the first verse of the last psalm;

Maria hun er en jomfru ren, Gud monne sin miskunn vise, hun fødte en sønn foruten mén, ham skulle vi love og prise; han har oss alle av synden løst, han give oss trøst, og himmeriks evige lise. (end 07.33)

'lise' is the same as 'lindring' - meaning relief. (taking away the pain, or lessening it is more accurate, only not completely right). can't seem to find the correct verses so this is it :-)

  • Beautiful song and beautiful Scandinavian country!!!

  • So lovely, I really find this moving. My Grandfather came from Norway in the late 1800s. I wish I could go to Norway. Maybe some day I will make it.

  • @Gimmer3 Welcome !!

  • @Gimmer3 Welcome !!

  • @Gimmer3 Welcome !! We salute you !!

  • @hakondenglaed - thanks a lot! :)

I understood only some words, but it's really different than modern language. Anyway it's always great to learn something more :)

    Take care!

  • No problem:) Love this song you have posted - thanks.

  • Hello,

I'm learning norwegian. Could someone write lyrics here?

    Thanks ;)

  • I translated two verses but you mean you want them in Norwegian? Thats no problem at all:

I only take the first song:

Mitt hjerte alltid vanker, i Jesus føderom.

Og full av lengsel sukke, kom Jesus dog her in. Det er ei fremed bolig du har den selv jo kjøpt, så skal du blive trolig her i mitt hjerte svøpt.

  • But dont be sad if you get troble with some of the words because its an old hymn, and some of the words are not used in modern Norwegian - only poetry.... For exemple: "dog" means "jo" = you know

Its the same as your King James Bible: you speak different now, and this may cause some truble for you

  • Norway is so pretty

  • I love everything that's Norwegian. Its too bad that they hate immigrants or I would move there.....

  • do we hate immigrants??

  • Only not racialy related imigrants.

  • skin coulour doesnt bother be at all, its the hardcore muzlims that pisses me of, i mean we take them in and give them food amd houses and yet they teach theyr kids that norwegian girls are whores and the men are pigs, arrgh

  • @BIasphemer I know that. I am Bulgarian and in my land it's the same situation. They have no respect to anyone and anything. They come in Germany, Norway, Finland and they don't want to learn the language in this counties. What do they do there??? Bulgaria was over 500 years under turkish government and I hate this people!!!

Actually I want to go to Norway. It's very beautifil land!!!

  • @shikamaru9324 I wrote an extensive comment here but managed to f5 the page. Uhr... Anyway, the gist of it was; stay out of the cities if you go to norway. Bergen is the only one i could really recommend. Oslo is shit, stay away. If you want to get the best of this country you have to basically go to the woods. Just camp out. And yeah, muslims... the fuck are they doing. Theyre basically doing what christians did hundreds of years ago. Christians learned to act like human beings, why can't they?

  • @BIasphemer did they? going and bombing two countries just for their oil is not very Christ-like to me...

  • @shikamaru9324 most people do it for the money, and most employers love to have them. they do the work no one else wants to do. next time you see a clean toilet, ask yourself if that's what YOU would like to do for a living...

  • @BIasphemer almost the same as in germany..

  • @BIasphemer

almost the same as in Germany..

  • @BIasphemer if you go anywhere, anytime, you'll hear people talking badly about other people. See? You just did it here.

  • @BIasphemer All europe is in the same situation my brother

  • @BIasphemer i am half mexican and half white and i want to enbrace my European heritage and move to norway, do you think i would be accepted there?

  • @xSpArTiChRiSx After quick look at your profile; please stay where you are.

  • @IversFTW sorry already moved to oslo and yes i am as Pagan as the come, and your saying im bad when your republican finatics slaughter inoccent children, and you blame me.

  • @xSpArTiChRiSx Nothing pagan about pentagrams. We have enough brainless black metallers here already, no need to import more of them, and halfbreeds from the other side of the world at that.

  • @IversFTW it has every thing to do with paganism and judging by your profile you are a right wing Nazi nationalist racist piece of shit, just like the guy who shot all of those people,... you and people like you are the reason to why the world is so fucked up and full of suffering, and calling me brainless? it appears your the intolerant dumbass here and im obviously ten times more intelligent than you or any of your freinds combined, so care to allow me to make you look anymore stupid?

  • @xSpArTiChRiSx I object to people like you coming to my country. That is my right. You do not belong here. Calling yourself intelligent doesn't make you so, rather the contrary.

  • @IversFTW first of all its not "your" country... and yes it is your right to object to my being in the country, but it is just as much my right to be there, and there is nothing you can do or say to stop me or persuade me to not follow through with my dream, so all resistance from you is futile and weak. Plus i am going to be a Network Administrator in Norway and i will be paying alot of taxes which will inturn benifit the country.

  • @xSpArTiChRiSx If you believe it is your "right" to be here, you are deluded, in addition to completely lacking of morals and decency. You are not Norwegian nor will you ever be.

  • @IversFTW you make me laugh im coming to norway and theres nothing you can do about it so shut up bitch hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • @BIasphemer dont u know muslim is a kind of cancer , u feed ıt in ur body and then ıt kills u at all.

  • @gothips No one should flag your comment, infact we should rate it up so EVERYONE can see how much of a bigot you are.

  • @BIasphemer Why is it that in every video i watch, i see some1 who has to criticize us for being "violent"&"evil"?.Even in videos that have no link whatsoever to religion or politics in general. For the love of GOD, there is enough hate in this world, blaming us wouldn't do any help, but would rather cause more harm&hatred. I agree, some of us are biased. But the rest of us are understanding. Regardless of religion, race or political view, there is good and evil everywhere in this world.

  • @yuyu610 Absolutly, thank you for your comment.

  • @yuyu610 as long as you don't stone homosexuals, mutilate children's genitals, expand religious base by force etc. then you're not really a classical muslim, are you? you're basically saying your god kinda messed up a bit when he made those holy texts, and have taken it upon yourself to change them to what suits you best. this is pretty great if you ask me, as it is a rebellion of sorts against the concept of god as something perfect - and a decent first step towards the obvious. i admire that

  • @BIasphemer U speak as if u know Islam more than I do, I was born&raised as any typical Muslim, in a country wher Islam is taken strictly(K.S.A)&every word that u just said is NOT true.Sme1 fooled u. Ur 1st sentence irritated me, we dnt do tht, we dnt even speak of it. Its a strictly forbidden sin. U misunderstood my reply. Read it again, I said sme PEOPLE r wrong (Not God), u think that every muslim sticks 2 Islam. No, ther r people who misobey the Holy Qura'an unconsciously or unfaithfully.

  • @yuyu610 Yuyu. One day I hope in Egypt where a couple muslims can living in peace with the christians(only as example from my Hope). I know It's not all muslims. Now we can hear this beautiful music lol lol

  • @yuyu610 notice how you and every other religion-follower always describe their own variation of any religion as the RIGHT one, and all other variations (like literal interpretation) as FAKE or "misunderstood" variants. the fact that you DON'T do what i described in the first sentence, was exactly my point. muslims everywhere pick different things from the holy texts to follow, but in common for all is that they are ascribed to a "perfect god". which MUST mean that only 1 interpretation is right

  • @yuyu610 is yours the right one yuyu?

  • @BIasphemer My friend, the first comment by Yuyu said my video is not link by the religion or politic. For me the music is Universal: christian, muslims, atheist, and all. In youtube we have this channels about the politic or religion. Long time I read all this comments about this situations, I respect all opinions.

  • @sablahedning apparently we do, but i don't feel any hatefull, do you?

  • @topp93 no , i mean we can be weard and spooky in many ways, but we dont nesseserely hate imigrants here, at least i dont^^

  • @Timber4love what? I fucking love Immigrants. We get some shitty ones here and there, but in the whole its great. Best thing that ever happened to this country was the massive influx of burmese people a few years back. Those guys work like there is no fucking tomorrow. 1 burmese dude is like 10 norwegians, its crazy

  • It's amazing at how many metal heads are listening to this....

  • this is so beautiful ...once you have been to Norway you will always return ... i have been to Norway several times...

    jeg elsker Norge ...

  • Does Bruremarsj Fra Osterdalen have any meaning or is it just a wedding march? Anyone know? Please?

  • Østerdalen is a valley in the eastern parts of norway. Øst=east dalen=valley Brur=bride and marsj, well you catch my drift :) It is beautiful and has a long tradition of folk music. The capitol of Østerdal is Elverum. There are many magnificent spelemenn (fiddleplayers) One of many characteristic musical genres of østerdal is the rørospols - a type of dance, and Røros is a beautiful mining-village on the Unesco World Heritage list. Sorry for the typos, glad you enjoyed the Bruremarsj.

  • Thank you very much for this precious infos, appreciat.

  • it means wedding march fom oster valley

  • oh sry, didnt read it throught, dunno

  • Im learning Norwegian so I know what it translates to. but I wanted to know if anyone knows if there is a deep meaning to it???

because to me it sounds like a wedding after a long separation or distance between the two.

I dont know, it sounds kind of Longing and Relief filled. But thats just my opinion... anyone know???

Either way its absolutely beautiful!!! its quickly becoming one of my favorite songs.

  • This seem to be a colection of classical hymns. The first one is also a Christmas song. It is not easy to transelate in a poetic way. But I will try to transelate some of it for you:

    First verse:

My heart allways dwells in the room where Crist was born. There all my thoughts are gatherd in total in their total sum. There my yearning belong. There my faith has its treasure. I can never forget you - Oh blessed Christmas night.

    ...

  • Excuse my spellingmistakes in the submittment above.

    Third verse:

Oh, come. I will open up my heart and mind. And full of yearning sigh: Come Jesus herein. It isn't unknown housing - You have bought it Yourself. THEN You will be truely wraped within my heart.

The other lyrics are also spiritual. And that is a great part of theese songs that should not be undervalued.

  • Wow thank you for your contribution, appreciat very much

  • No, one of the most depressing places on earth. Visit there and you'll know how Munch felt.

    Great place for suicide though.

  • Excelent,i really feel connected with the nordic folk,i'm from Argentina but i have gaelic blood and spirit,i hope some day i can travel to Norway.Cheers brothers!

  • gaelic blood?

that really has nothing to do whit norway, or scandinavia at all

  • I don't think so, besides, i can feel connected with this music anyway

  • magic

  • From Chile, in Southamerica: this song, and the traditional norway music, is full of soul and heart... very touching

  • I've use some of this for some great meditative times. Thanks for making readily available. From Minnesota direct to Norway in my heart.

  • amazing

  • riktig bra!!!

  • hails from the usa

my heart is out to my brothers from the north.

  • the religious view of the music really means nothing to me...this is very beautiful music...

leave it up to the nords =]]

  • Hauntingly beautiful song sung beautifully. How old was this boy when he sang it. It sounds very much as though it could be a Welsh traditional melody possibly because it is a minor key. I want more!

  • 14 years olds

  • Norwegian folk music and traditional music resembles lots of the traditional music found any place on the british isles. The scandinavians and the british influenced eachother alot. Both in art architecture, clothes and music.

  • In fact it was the Norwegian Vikings (and Danes) who influenced British ancient art. The original inhabitants of the British Islands didn't have much to do with Scandinavian people, as it was pretty much a one way movement. People from Scandinavia went to Britain, not the other way. Of course Anglo-Saxons were Germanic people but they invaded Britain hundreds of years earlier than the Scandinavians. So as far as i know, it's not unfair to say that Scandinavians influenced Britain.

  • I guess you're right. :D

  • this is really washed out Folk music, with a lot of celtic influence. Seek out old "spellemannslag" recordings for really traditional norwegian music.

  • Brilliant!

  • Absolutely beautiful. The music and video are Incredibly peaceful and life-giving, You are so gifted.

Do you know how the town of Vinje was named? I have three sons, all 100% Norwegian, and last name is Vinje. My 3rd son visited Vinje a year ago and said it was beautiful, more magnificent than the Rockie Mountains in the United States.

I am so glad I found your music.

    D.Vinje (Minneapolis, MN)

  • The farm Uppistog Vinje owned the surrounding land and people settled around it.

For example the area where i live its called Nordby, you can still see the farmstead nordby that used to own the land, only now the commune is called Aas.

But the farm and name still stand.

  • Vraiment superbe. Merci !

  • Its wonderfull, I'm norwegian, i just wish they would not sing about jesus, the christian lyrics destroys much of the music for me.

  • Look for the other video, above. Also beautiful. Thank you, apprecit your comment.

  • The first and third song were meant as religious expressions through their lyrics and to try to strip them of that might strip a very central part of their character -- just as, for example, one cannot and should not deny the pagan nature of some folk music (e.g. Viking) music. It can be helpful to understand the cultural context of any form of music, even if we do not believe that context ourselves. And many folk traditions in music touch upon the spiritual / sacred / divine. That's human.

  • Absolutly, the Music is Universel.
