I still to this day don't fully understand the "NAO" and i want to study weather. I understand it determins if we get colder or warmer but where the hell is it at in the north ? what is it a high pressure system? the la-nina? The jetstream? A series of low pressure system? the ocean? tell me :(

The NAO is wrong to even use. This function or element of the models is way over played. The slight south pacific does not affect us much. There are many more important factors. Now no one is discussing the 100 year drought headed north and NE out of TX, OK, KS!

Well every year in the U.S. it's suppose to be cold and snowy, that's what winter is all about until man made global warming. But for the past two years it's been okay I guess. Virgina had record breaking snow and NYC was also paralyzed late December in 2010.

@FuseZNZ you have no idea what your talking about,Volcanoes release SO2, Cl2, HCl, H2o, Ash, and CO2 into the atmosphere. They contribute to ozone depletion, as well as to both cooling and warming of the earth's atmosphere. YOU made me laugh

Seems somewhat optimistic for northeast snow lovers. At this point looks like a possible weak nina. Maybe we could be seeing the NAO remain in a negative state. SOme volcanic activity and the talk of the sun taking a nap could also be good news.
