  • MONM the BIfFFFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!sgjhkjldsfsjlk;jhkghfd

  • I like both bands but Matt Bellamy is way better on guitar. Listen to plug in baby, the invincible solo, the new born solo, stockholm syndrome, knights of cydonia. bye

  • lol they always play their instruments pretty tightly but man does simon always sound like a drunk live

    lol i love em anyways

  • Matt Bellamy is a great guitarist but could never write a song as awsome as this mon the biffy

  • Simon Neill and Matt Bellamy are both awesome musicians. End of story.

  • Matt Bellamy Vs Simon Neill?

No contest. Bellamy is probably the finest guitarist in Rock at the moment.

  • @provinator if you want to get all technical and shit, then john petrucci or michael romeo come and rape everybody in the room, who the fuck cares who is better than who!!!! ITS BIIFFYYYYY MON THE BIFFYYYYYYYYY

  • Simon relies on full blown rock and Matt relies on effects

  • Mike Vennart canes them both anyway (Biffys 4th member)

  • matt bellamy is an all round more talented musician i think, simon is really good, but i think hes a very lazy player, especially live, bellamy has had musical training since he was really young

  • Matt Bellamy is still a cunt though and his songs sound like shit.

  • @kirkfnw Bahahahahahahaha, true dat

  • I'm going to join in this pointless 'discussion'. Simon is brilliant. Absolutely. Bull shit is he better than Bellamy though...Bellamy's skill on the guitar is unmatched by any other mainstream rockers (check Stockholm Syndrome, In Your World, Knights of Cydonia) not trying to put Simon down at all (he clearly doesn't give a shit what I think). Saw them both at Wembley. Biffy were good, Muse raised the roof.

  • wembley 2010, white lies got me moving, biffy got me jumping, but muse were just on a whole different level. few things in life are as good as jumping up and down with your arm over complete strangers having a moment of bliss...during bliss.

ahh, just the best most insane gig ive ever ever been to

  • From France : Simon Neil have a fucking rock spirit!!

  • @weaponsschool no one likes France fuck off !

  • love how simon murders the guitar near the end XD

  • noone plays with the energy of the clash, they sang slow reggae songs that fire you up and got mosh pits going, unbelievable energy

  • both are awesome in their own ways. is it so hard?

  • let us not forget the other members of biffy clyro.. james and ben. not just simon, gorgey as he is. but still great band :)

  • Also the timing of Muse is like perfect, Biffy's timing is odd and very original which i think is truely awsome though!

  • Its funny how people keep comparing Muse and Biffy they're completly different as we all know, and yet i also favor both bands above any other. And hell yea Simon is talented but you should be carefull comparing him to Matt cause he's an allround musician who's capable of pulling ANYTHING off!

I would visit a Biffy gig cause of their rawness and energy, and i would visit a Muse gig because of their perfection in vocals aswell as instrumentals. Thats what makes the big difference between these.

  • saw muse at wembley sept 11th, looking around, i saw people doing the ol mosh business an jumping up an down, only to this song, i only really like this and a couple of others so i cant name any of the other songs they did, but when muse finished off with knights of cydonia, there was more energy in that mosh (3-4 hours later) than there was during biffy songs, same in sheffield when muse played then, and more emotion? emotion cannot be measured unless your some rapper crapper then theres none

  • I personally prefer Biffy to Muse. Just cause i get kinda bored with the muse sound cause the last 3 albums could have all linked together. Plus muse are not "Rocky" enough nowadays. Biffy reinvent themselves every song and dont rely on effects to make great music. But of course Muse are selling out stadiums and huge arenas all over the world. Its all to taste for everybody. I love my beefy yet catchy riffs that biffy make.

  • @Beezaboy

    last 3 albums?

absolution was nothing like black hole and the resistance and even them two were different in most ways.

  • @Beezaboy you clearly dont know what your talking about

BIFFY rely on oddly timed songs, which is their effect, muse do jams, look up mk jam and helsinki jam

absolution, blackholes and revelations and resistance sounding the same? sure youve not just been listening to the same album again

  • I love both biffy and muse and have seen them both live. Biffy puts in more emotion but muse are more about being perfect live. Vocal range Simon is no where near matt bellamys standard, guitar wise they are different kind of guitarists but Matt Bellamy is probably a better guitarist however Simon Neil is very unique. Overall i prefer biffy because of there pure emotion and unbelievable lyrics! MON THE BIFF <3

  • incredible performance !!

  • i seen biffy on friday at belsonic(: was actually amazing. lostprophets as support. but biffy just blew me away. MON' THE BIFF. :L

  • You can tell this is one of there first songs on the set, simon is not drowning lol

  • For fuck's sake, why does everyone compare Muse to Biffy?

They are NOTHING alike. Stop it.

  • @EJRocky It's only because they did a tour together and i'll never understand why =S

If i was Matt Bellamy the last person i'd want there is Simon Neil! I mean how do you follow up an act like Biffy?! I'd feel stage raped =P

  • I just LOVE the way Simon is killing his guitar from 2.45

  • I love it how Simon allways sings the parts played by brass or strings. They should get more succesful to hire some damn orchestra or something...

  • every person in that crowd deserve a hard slap in the face for standing still. Assholes.

  • @theNISK i was at a biffy gig in dundee last year , and there were a few standing stillers and i swear i was fuming, 99% of us were going fucking haywire

  • biffy clyro are the best i´m see them in concert the best concert i go and i go to a lot of concerts

  • Its sad that people think Muse are boring, Matt Bellamy used to be absolutely mental in the Origin of Symmetry/Absolution era (hes a Guiness World Record holder for number of smashed guitars, 140, on tour) and both those albums have immensely emotional songs.

Its also sad that they released two weak albums after that (you could say the same for Biffy), but at least Simon has kept his live energy, whereas Muse rely too heavily on visuals(and most Resistance songs are total buzz kills)

  • @tomo2k5k

Have you ever seen the Bill Bailey stand-up routine where he shows what would happen at a U2 gig if the power went out? if not search BILL BAILEY U2 on here and have a look.

i get the feeling the same thing would happen at a Muse gig..... Biffy would just grab an acoustic or two, a box for Ben and maybe a maraca and still put on a better show!!

  • Biffy Clyro and Muse are different and not to be compared by you smart musical know it alls. It gets ridiculous.

  • @cbarrett111 muse dull? there utter crap now but origin of symmetry era is amazing

  • If we're gonna talk about muse I gotta say my part: Muse got a few good songs and are quite talented, but they use to much effects. I hate to much effects, go play in a fucking synthband if you want your guitar or bass to sound like a keyboard...

  • this whole argument is pretty ridiculous. i really enjoy both bands, and both matt and simon are great guitarists. and i know for a fact that biffy really likes muse(they've mentioned it many times), and muse likes biffy. if they didn't, why would muse ask biffy to open for them time and time again and why would biffy accept happily every time? muse is just more commercial than biffy have been in the past, but with "only revolutions" biffy is starting to get the publicity they deserve

    cheers :)

  • bellamy has talent and is a fantasdtic musician however, Simon is so passianate about the music that he doesn't give a shit what he looks like on stage when he's going for it

and besides the music is better in my opinion!

  • Who on earth brought up the comparison between Simon Neil and Matt Bellamy or the notion that one is influenced by the other?

The truth is, they both make great music, and I think you should just spend more time enjoying their music instead of bickering about which one is the worst.

  • ok firstly two very different guitarists.

secondly simon neil didn't sit at home and learn scales.

    he's just his own.

  • biffy rule

  • they are so gonna kick arse at reading!!!!!!

  • Im amazed by the fact that his guitar isnt in 7000 pieces lol :D

  • Everyone seems to go on about muse but i find them pretty boring. Biffy, on the other hand, are fucking amazing!

  • @iAMhuntingWITCHES Ironic considering Biffy Clyro are influenced by Muse and Biffy Clyro just suppoirted them...hmmmm

  • @Muser13sm considering both bands have been around for the same amount of time, you cant really say biffy are influenced by Muse.

  • Of course he can, why not? Muse is the greatest band in british history!

  • @kokkoshode if muse are the greatest band in british history, then im simon neil. Which im clearly not, as he's a fucking god!

  • @iAMhuntingWITCHES bands can be influenced by other bands that are around at the same time.... they are both amazing, live and recorded so there is no problem either way

  • U are a fool

  • @Muser13sm Biffy arn't influenced by Muse, Biffy were around slightly before muse were formed

  • @Elltrixer Yeah, that isn't really true? You know that right?

  • @Benny2393Yes, that is true, facts on my side boy.

  • @Benny2393 Oh yeah Muse formed in 1992, my year of birth :) However Biffy formed when all members were 15, on the internet it says 1995, but that's when people started to take notice of them, they really formed in the 1980's.

  • @Elltrixer Wouldn't that make Simon younger than ten? If he was born in 79?

  • @iAMhuntingWITCHES to be fair, muse were sick, then they started making shit like undisclosed desires.

they're no patch on biffy live or recorded though, i agree

    mon the biffy

  • no one plays like simon. so much energy :D

  • @Gnarlybenson try joe strummer from the clash

  • biffy are one of my fav bands but muse are just amazin, ther song writing, matt belamys singing is just as good live as on recordin. just amazin, but biffy are amazin to

  • Sooo much fucking energy! Same cannot possibly be said for the crowd, jesus christ. Biffy deserve better than that.

  • Why is this crowd so shit! They should be going mental...its the Biff for Gods sake!!!

  • i love muse and matt bellamy is a top guitarist but i dont think he could even lace simon neils boots. or rather tune simons guitar.

  • I love Biffy, probably one of my top 3 favourite bands, but Simon Neil just isn't anywhere near as talented as Matt Bellamy in basically any field. And I mean that in the least offensive way possible, as Simon is a genius.

  • I totally agree with you on that. Simon is a great guitarist, but Matt Bellamy is currently doing to the guitar what Hendrix did to it in the 70's: reinventing it.

  • or caking it with effects until it sounds like two spaceships fucking

  • well i beg to differ. simon neil writes better .songs for one. he plays with more passion and aggression. and can vary his voice for different songs. matts voice is a tad boring and always the same. although i love stockholm syndrome . epic anthem.

  • thats your opinion mate fair enough. but i just dont get the tingles down my back for muse like i do 4 biffy. muse have got album fillers on thier records. a couple of shit ones biffy have no shit tunes at all. muse's first 3 albums were superb i think they're too radio friendly now.

  • its not my opinion, matt definitely has a wider range, i dont think either band have shit tunes, but i do agree muse are more radio friendly. bu that happened to biffy too, look at puzzle, and even only revolutions are far more radio friendly than any of their other albums!

  • @tomo2k5k I think that while matt bellamy is technically better at guitar and singing than simon neil, simon writes better songs and I much prefer his singing voice.

  • @tommok

In my opinion you can't really be technically better at singing.

Matt Bellamys vibrato that he does on every word really makes me grind my teeth, he's a good guitar player though and the first two albums were good.

    Their new stuff is laughable.

  • @tomo2k5k i have to agree with you here, Simon Neil is a genius in the way that he uses every guitar tuning possible to create a very unique sound for Biffy, an example in this song, if you have a look at the tabs for most of thier stuff it envovles a lot of barring a frett and strumming madly but saying that it does sound awomse. Where as someone like Bellamy who is classically trained and is amazing at everything plus can sing like a physco it kinda doesnt weigh up.

  • @tomo2k5k

Depends if you prefer technicality or emotion.

Matt Bellamy wins by miles on technicality.

Simon wins by miles on emotion in my opinion.

  • @AreYouIrrelevant I agree with you tbh BUT emotion is the reason music exsists, to channel it through music... is it not?

    :)

  • @dillonclifty

Yes, I agree with you 100%.

I personally couldn't give a shit how technically 'good' someone is at anything, sadly though, alot of people on this earth judge music purely on how technically 'good' someone is. Which is extremely lame.

  • @tomo2k5k Yeah , agreed. Simon is amazing at what he does , but Matt Bellamy is just like a musical genius. He's extremely talented. As much as i love Simon , Matt is better

  • @tomo2k5k Are you serious Simon Neil is the most underated Muscian and Lyricist of this generation. His riffs and solo's are far more genius, i am a fan of muse and i think Matt Belamy is a great muscian but Simon Neil is a heck of a lot more talented and yet still so unrecognised. Simon is a lot better song writer and a lot more imgainitave Muscian over all, Matt Belamy is fantastic like i say but Simon Neil is far better only he is under the radar, he has alot of potential still.

  • @dillonclifty

    This man/woman is correct.

  • @dillonclifty I'm talking about technical ability. I do agree with the guy who said perhaps Simon puts more emotion into his music, however his riffs and vocal range do not compare to that of Bellamy's. It's not really an opinion to be honest, 90% of Simon's riffs are just power chords, none of the guitar work is technically impressive really. That doesn't mean it's bad in the slightest, it's how it all fits together and makes a song that makes it impressive.

  • @tomo2k5k Yeah but music isnt all about technical riffs, yeah its flash and its skillfull, But i personally think writing a melody with meaningfull lyrics that some one can connect to and understand is alot more skillfull and harder to do. Especially the way Simon does it, like some one else said if you want your guitar to sound like a keyboard thats fine, but if you want to create a melody with poetic lyryics that actaully means something, then your going to get through to people personally.

  • @tomo2k5k Loath as I do to contribute to what is an utterly pointless argument, but I have to correct you on basic facts. Simon's guitar work, far from being technically unimpressive, is a masterwork in mixing technicality and taste. Jazz rhythms and odd chord shapes abound, all meshed with uncanny melody. Maybe he can't shred; maybe his vocal range is not that of Bellamy's; but you try play some of his older riffs flawlessly in front of thousands. Go ahead, try it.

  • @tomo2k5k mate, have you ever heard there first three albums? because that's just a load of shit, arpeggiated open chords pretty much all of there albums anyway, especially there first three tho

  • @tomo2k5k No offence to matt belamy or yourself, but simon niel hardly ever uses power chords, he's known for really obscure chord shapes and his ridiculous ability to multi-task, matt belamy and the whole of muse for thatmatter are classical muscians which gives themalot of skill but as for creativity simon niel owns. p.s muse is gay xx

  • @tomo2k5k matt uses alot of synth and effects hardware on his guitars etc etc , summit to think about

  • @tomo2k5k

Bellamy is alright, Simon just rules...I mean, his vocals and lyrics are amazing...and his whole techincal ability is far superior to that of Matt Bellamy's...

  • Comment removed

  • @tomo2k5k sure matt bellamy can hit the high notes but he doesn't he definitely can't scream like simon and all his lyrics tend to be about the world ending/space. he's a good guitarist sure, but he uses a shit ton of effects aswel which make it easy for him to sound good. whereas simon just has a nice guitar tone. '90% Power chords' - No. Go learn some songs off vertigo of bliss, sick chords and time signature changes, much more inventive than anything bellamys ever come up with.

  • and im not having a go at muse, they're good value live although all their songs sound the same these days, and im not bumming simon either cos they went downhill after infinity land.

  • @pelee57

    @pelee57

But you're wrong in assuming using pedals & effects make guitar easier, with the exception of distortion that can hide mistakes or delay (arguable) it probably makes it harder to acheive clear-tones that then aren't guitar playing in essence. And wrong in assuming Biffy went downhill after Inf-Land, going downhill & changing sound in progression tends to often be mistaked by die-hard fans.

At the end of the day music is subjective but Biffys alt-rock beats Muses Alt-roc

  • @pelee57 Bellamy can scream, but he just fucking won't. It's a shame. Look up the Stockholm Syndrome at Glastonbury 04. The ending scream to that song is fantastic. Back in the day, Muse had the raw energy that Biffy have today. It's just a shame Muse have become more polished than raw. As far as skill goes, I think Bellamy is a better musician over all. Although his guitar is more effect based, his piano playing is truly beautiful. He knows his way around his instruments. I love both so much.

  • @JamesCmuse I agree, Muse have lost their edge, while Biffy have evolved it. There's lots of their older sound in Only Revolutions it's just peppered with strings and horns and new rhythms and ideas.

Muse dropped out of favour with me after Black Holes and my fave record by them is still Origin. but with Biffy, while I've been a fan for ages, the stuff on Puzzle really got me into them and Revolutions just blew me away. Some Kind of Wizard is still my fave tune by them tho lol.

  • @anarchotrent I wouldn't say LOST their edge, I'd say it's just dormant. I think sometime in the future they will strip down and just play music because they enjoy it. Even Matt had said in the past few months that he wants the next album to be downscaled from The Resistance. They got a feeling of what it's like to be at the position they're currently in, and he said after he wants to do smaller shows in places like arenas, and be a little more intimate. Only time will tell I guess :)

  • @pelee57

As a huge fan of both Muse & Biffy i gotta agree with Tomo, Bellamy is easily one of the best upcoming guitarists on the scene & most certainly the most impressive rock vocalist next to the likes of Stipe (REM) and others, let alone his overall talent from stage-presence to lyrics when combined.

One can't argue that in terms of technical ability playing/singing that Matt is lesser than Simon.

when the whole music comes together i prefer Biffys for as you said time sigs, prosody etc

  • @tomo2k5k

take it you haven't heard, some kind of wizard, bubbles, whos got a match , a whole child ago...etc, the list goes on

  • @tomo2k5k 90% percent of Simon's riffs are not just 'power chords.' Keeping in mind though that Biffy are a three peice band, they need to have some sense of rythm. But yeah, I doubt that you play guitar.

    Simon Neil>Matt Bellamy...

  • @tehStevee - it sounds good, does it matter if its power chords, it doesnt mean it a lesser song - fatboyslim pushes two buttons on a cd player.... he still makes banging tunes - less is more

  • @tehStevee uhhhh..... Muse is a three-piece also. Both bands often use a fourth member live. Bellamy's musicianship slams any other popular rocker's, but I reckon Neil's lyrics are certainly more beautiful.

  • @tomo2k5k exactly, im not a big fan of muse, comparing muse and biffy is pathetic in a way, totally different bands, in my opinion, mon the biff! :-)

  • @tomo2k5k your a bigger fan of muse than of biffy clyro and are therefore gonna defend muse no matter what anyone says, pointless discussing anything with people so closed minded

  • @tomo2k5k

Its seems the words geinus gets tossed around a lot these days.

  • ha..ha....ha.....wow...you couldn be more wrong

  • mat bellamy sucks and is overrated

  • @BiffyReuben Matt Bellamy is a more accomplished musician without question. His guitar lines are exemplary and he is a master pianist. Simon Neil is a fantastic musician, but cannot match Bellamy's technical ability.

As songwriters, they are two very different artists and I reckon on par with each other. Bellamy writes fantastic space vistas with crushing guitars. Neil crafts huge works of art with genius lyrics and bombastic breaks and choruses. Both are awesome British artists. Nuff said.

  • Biffy are a zillion times better than muse.

  • There songs sound so much better live.like a million times better.that stupid record company has ruined biffy.

  • Insanely good.
