According to the wizard's instruction, Captain Marvel was to destroy Evil wherever it was found.This was also war time, so, this was blowing off steam. but research the movie, it won awards- Especially for the Flying sequences- which became the standard for other 40's movies and even Superman with Christopher Reeves.

Of the earliest comic book hero serials made is quite unique. Captain Marvel kills several criminals during the course of the movie. He machine guns them,tosse's them over cliffs and throws them off a roof. Very adult matter based on a character created for a ten year old comic book audience.

I used the VHS copy to make this trailer. I was saddened when I watched it on DVD for the first time. The quality was GREAT. Too great. I was able to see stuff that I hadn't seen before; wires.

Interesting info thanks. Now i know how they managed to make the flying Captain Marvel and his shadow appears so realistic.

The shadow and the figure was not cleverly superimposed as i thought but the figure really was flying and the shadow was real.

Unlike Spider-man where you can see spidey and the villains are mainly CGI, and unlike Dare Devil where you can tell the buildings are mostly CGI.

Christopher Reeves was never more than a few feet off the ground, and it showed..

I was very impressed with the flying special effects. Much better than the Kirk Aylin Superman series where he just becomes cartoon when flying.

And much better than the George Reeves Superman where he just does the flying pose in front of a badly painted background moving behind him.

I don't think the Christopher Reeves flight scenes were any better, i really don't know how they did this back in 1941.

I really2 love it Captain Marvel rules so what if he a bit rough on the villains, its about time somebody pushed them around I mean Superman was great but I think he was just a little bit too soft with the criminals. I don't like 1 of Marvels tactics using a machine gun to finish off the remaining villains I mean he could just kill them using his amazing strength. Anyway I like it I wish more heroes either with or without superpowers would be more vigilant and aggressive.

Like ChristianNYC, I'm amazed how good the flying sequences look! Better than the Superman series w/ George Reeves. Of course the producers of the "Adventures of Superman" were on a "super" tight budget. Look carefully, you'll see the same scenery props, flying sequences, villains and background actors were used over and over on that show. On the episode with the Atom bomb going off, look at George's chest and you'll see part of the metal plate that he's laying on as he flies over the bomb!

I remember the kid who played Billy Batson did a cameo on the "Shazam" t.v. show in the 70's. I was a big movie buff and comic book fan so I knew about the serial and about freaked when I saw the name in the credits! (It's the one at a zoo.)

"Captain Marvel" comics outsold "Superman" comics in the 1940's. The only reason why Fawcett Comics stopped publishing Captain Marvel was because DC Comics dragged them through the courts for seven years until they just ran out of money. This video is a nice "what-might-have-been".
