According to the wizard's instruction, Captain Marvel was to destroy Evil wherever it was found. This was also war time, so, this was blowing off steam. but research the movie, it won awards- Especially for the Flying sequences- which became the standard for other 40's movies and even Superman with Christopher Reeves.
Of the earliest comic book hero serials made is quite unique. Captain Marvel kills several criminals during the course of the movie. He machine guns them, tosse's them over cliffs and throws them off a roof. Very adult matter based on a character created for a ten year old comic book audience.
How much could this have cost WMG that they had to muted? if anybody wants to watch this, they'll find it one way or another thru piracy or any other means.its fucking 3 minutes not a whole season .
@MrFrank1968 It's a shame the sound was cut out. I created this back around... 2005? Been a while. Perhaps I'll re-upload it to my site and post a link.
OMG - he's using 3 minutes of video from WMG without paying us money - quick, disable his audio track and sue his ass off and put his family in prison with all the other murderers and rapist and drug lords where they obviously belong. (It's pre-emptive anal shit like this that turns honest people into pirates)
@chickensayboo Yeah really.. It's not like I am making money off that video.I created this back around... 2005, I think. Been a while. Perhaps I'll re-upload it to my site and post a link.
@boxing4free - I just wish the entertainment industry would take their collective heads out of their asses. I mean nobody that made this or was around when this was made is still around today and it's not like they are making any money from this either.
I used the VHS copy to make this trailer. I was saddened when I watched it on DVD for the first time. The quality was GREAT. Too great. I was able to see stuff that I hadn't seen before; wires.
@stanssoapbox What's sad is that, on VHS, this is amazing. When I bought the DVD, watching at 480i resolution, I can see ALL the wires.. Watch this only on VHS if you don't want the magic to disappear.
Why did you cover up the origional soundtrack and audio with your own choice of music?
And now it has been removed because of copyright reasons it is even worse because we have to watch it it total silence. Why couldn't you have just left it alone?
Tom Tyler played Captain Marvel after a long career as a cowboy star in silent films and early talkies. Before that he'd been a weightlifter, reputedly the first American to clean & jerk 300 pounds.
I'm actually impressed. for 1941, that was pretty good effects. Love the bitch slap at 2:41...maybe the first bitch slap by a super hero. lol he also gunned down those guys running away. Superman he's not.
Dude, did you check out this guy's pecks???? I mean he had to have OVER 40 when he made this flick. And he still had pecks!!!! Way to go, this guy made superman look like a girl scout!!!!!!!!!!!! Back in the 70's Chris Reveas should have lifted more weights!!!!!
I really2 love it Captain Marvel rules so what if he a bit rough on the villains, its about time somebody pushed them around I mean Superman was great but I think he was just a little bit too soft with the criminals. I don't like 1 of Marvels tactics using a machine gun to finish off the remaining villains I mean he could just kill them using his amazing strength. Anyway I like it I wish more heroes either with or without superpowers would be more vigilant and aggressive.
Like ChristianNYC, I'm amazed how good the flying sequences look! Better than the Superman series w/ George Reeves. Of course the producers of the "Adventures of Superman" were on a "super" tight budget. Look carefully, you'll see the same scenery props, flying sequences, villains and background actors were used over and over on that show. On the episode with the Atom bomb going off, look at George's chest and you'll see part of the metal plate that he's laying on as he flies over the bomb!
This mix of classic serial and John Williams' score for Superman The Movie is very clever and lots of fun. This is a movie I would wait in line to see ...
republics best serial a true treasure for 1941 and serials in general. i have and watch this one often. also tom tyler played the phantom also a very cool serial wayyyy better than the 1994 movie.
I remember the kid who played Billy Batson did a cameo on the "Shazam" t.v. show in the 70's. I was a big movie buff and comic book fan so I knew about the serial and about freaked when I saw the name in the credits! (It's the one at a zoo.)
The Captain Marvel serials are well worth getting I've seen them and I was amazed how well done they were considering that the producers hadn't the modern special effects equipment of our time.
"Captain Marvel" comics outsold "Superman" comics in the 1940's. The only reason why Fawcett Comics stopped publishing Captain Marvel was because DC Comics dragged them through the courts for seven years until they just ran out of money. This video is a nice "what-might-have-been".
Awesome! I want to see this Captain Marvel serial sometime- the music was great too! The 1989 Batman movie theme music (as well as the theme song for the 1990 The Flash TV series) and the incredible 1978 Superman movie theme music!!! Cool!

Your joking the superman movies of the 70's had way better effects then from the 40's and the superman returns effect were better than both movies
enotaa 1 year ago
Interesting info thanks. Now i know how they managed to make the flying Captain Marvel and his shadow appears so realistic.
The shadow and the figure was not cleverly superimposed as i thought but the figure really was flying and the shadow was real.
Unlike Spider-man where you can see spidey and the villains are mainly CGI, and unlike Dare Devil where you can tell the buildings are mostly CGI.
Christopher Reeves was never more than a few feet off the ground, and it showed..
stanssoapbox 2 years ago
I was very impressed with the flying special effects. Much better than the Kirk Aylin Superman series where he just becomes cartoon when flying.
And much better than the George Reeves Superman where he just does the flying pose in front of a badly painted background moving behind him.
I don't think the Christopher Reeves flight scenes were any better, i really don't know how they did this back in 1941.

When Whiz comics introduced Captain Marvel, the Big Red Cheese was rougher and tougher. The character was toned down in later issues.
