All I can say is Phillip Fulmer. We didn't realize how good of a coach and man we had until we hired the little punk Kiffin, who just ups and leaves after one year.

Dickey was before my time, but I grew up watching Fulmer stab Majors in the back, and then continue to amass a bunch of empty wins. Don't get me wrong, Majors had overstayed his welcome too, but Fulmer had 1 brilliant season in 16 years. The game when he started was a game of power, up-the-gut football. Now it's a game of speed. Combine the lack of explosive players with Fulmer's predictability, and it's no wonder he posted 5-7 in '08. Kiffin's 1st season will be above .500...
(cont.) No matter what, Kiffin finishes above .500 in his first season at UT. Whether it's 7-6, or 8-5 after the bowl game. It all looks better than last year. Not only that, it's actually exciting again. When's the last time any UT fan has been excited about 7-6 or 8-5? After we had 2 or 3 loss seasons, I wasn't looking ahead to the same bullshit the next fall. I'm actually excited now. We finally have somebody innovative and willing to take risks.
Anybody that remembers how Fulmer stabbed Johnny Majors in the back wasn't a fan. I never liked Fulmer. John Chavis saved Fulmer's job for a decade. Fulmer got great recruits, and benched them. He constantly settled for fieldgoals. He let Randy Sanders overstay his welcome. He never tried anything creative or innovative. He was a "run right, run left, run up the middle, punt" coach. He amassed a 152-52 record with only 2 conference titles and a national championship.
In addition, he gained no conference titles after 1998. Combined losses for the 4 years UT won the east division title: 12. He lost back-to-back Peach Bowls in 2 consecutive blow-outs against ACC teams in the '02 and '03 seasons. He's had a 4-5 bowl record since 1999, and had 2 years without bowl eligibility ('05 season, '08 season). He even got to the point where not only could he not win in the SEC, he couldn't beat teams in other conferences. Thank God he's gone.

Saban is a great recruiter. He will be tough to beat in Memphis or any other area he is recruiting. Having said that, it is too early to judge Kiffen and staff. Next year will be a better indicator because he will have time to develop relationships in Memphis.

This is something I will always remember. I was driving home from school, and 104.5 The Zone carried it live during the George Plaster Show. I remember crying. Phillip Fulmer is a class act. If u dont believe me, just look at his work with the Jason Foundation, and several individual things as mentioned in Clay Travis's book called On Rocky Top.

Dickey was before my time, but I grew up watching Fulmer stab Majors in the back, and then continue to amass a bunch of empty wins. Don't get me wrong, Majors had overstayed his welcome too, but Fulmer had 1 brilliant season in 16 years. The game when he started was a game of power, up-the-gut football. Now it's a game of speed. Combine the lack of explosive players with Fulmer's predictability, and it's no wonder he posted 5-7 in '08. Kiffin's 1st season will be above .500...

Anybody that remembers how Fulmer stabbed Johnny Majors in the back wasn't a fan. I never liked Fulmer. John Chavis saved Fulmer's job for a decade. Fulmer got great recruits, and benched them. He constantly settled for fieldgoals. He let Randy Sanders overstay his welcome. He never tried anything creative or innovative. He was a "run right, run left, run up the middle, punt" coach. He amassed a 152-52 record with only 2 conference titles and a national championship.

In addition, he gained no conference titles after 1998. Combined losses for the 4 years UT won the east division title: 12. He lost back-to-back Peach Bowls in 2 consecutive blow-outs against ACC teams in the '02 and '03 seasons. He's had a 4-5 bowl record since 1999, and had 2 years without bowl eligibility ('05 season, '08 season). He even got to the point where not only could he not win in the SEC, he couldn't beat teams in other conferences. Thank God he's gone.

Saban is a great recruiter. He will be tough to beat in Memphis or any other area he is recruiting. Having said that, it is too early to judge Kiffen and staff. Next year will be a better indicator because he will have time to develop relationships in Memphis.

Also, he gave true testimony, but it was Spurrier that sent the original letter to the NCAA. Oh, but I guess Spurrier wasn't whooping your asses at the time so you hate Fulmer. Fulmer, as much as I haven't liked him over years, showed his true colors. He loved Tennessee and the athletic director should be ashamed of the way Fulmer was driven out. Just pathetic.

I've enjoyed watching Tennessee falter this year, but it's sad to see such a successful coach treated so shabbily. UT showed no class at all in this. The man's given his whole adult life to the school and football program, and he's won a national championship, for crying out loud. UT showed no class at all in firing him now. The season will be over in a month -- and that's when they should have made the move.

Coach Fulmer is a class act. The stress and pressure on coaches in this league are more than anyone commenting on this page will ever know. I give him his due, he will be missed on the sidelines in the SEC. War Eagle, and good luck to the Vol's. one of the premeire teams, in the SEC and in the country.
