However historically US cars have been all about straight line speed- drag racing and have been built heavy with soft, wallowy suspension- using leaf springs when the rest of the world scrapped them long ago. You can't compare a blown engine to a nonblown one.
Having said that, mercedes has a 6.2l engine that produces 623 horsepower without being blown.
That's over 100hp per L non blown, which is a lot especially because it's harder to maintain that number on a bigger engine.

Most RWD cars that are properly tired and prepped for the quarter do better than this car did and they only use two wheels to transfer all that power vs 4 wheels. You don't think he had his boost up for this run? I guess he was using jet propulsion then.

However historically US cars have been all about straight line speed- drag racing and have been built heavy with soft, wallowy suspension- using leaf springs when the rest of the world scrapped them long ago. This is a fact that one good car can't change overnight. The reality is that we're all going to be driving "world cars" soon anyway- the same cars sold under different badges in every country.

The only topic discussed in my post was that japs couldn't create more power from a turbocharged V8 than an American company could. Check out some of the turbocharged V8's you'd see in a drag car... Nelson racing is a good company for you to look into. I'm not a big American car fan honestly, but under no circumstances can you say Japanese motors make more power...

@rizegraymon1 the 5.0L Mustang has 420, N/A. The evo and rex have that about 300 each with the help of a turbo. I have yet to see a 4cyl do much over 200. Correct me if i'm wrong, but a Civic Si has a 2.4 201 or something. In terms of size of engine to power it puts out, the mustang beats it.

If you wanna talk about turbo charging vehicles, Saleen S7. 7 L engine with way over 700 HP and it is pretty light too. The reason the muscle cars are so heavy is because the components needed to work efficiently with all that power plus the safety laws need to be strong. with a 200 hp engine you don't need a beefy tranny or anything. But yes, i wish they were lighter

@rizegraymon1 Thats a pointless argument,you have to consider that v8s have to support 2 pistons on a single crankshaft journal,the crank is also longer which makes it harder to keep sturdy under high rpm.The 2011 5.0l mustang makes 429 hp without turbo.The v8s used in mascar make over 600 hp without turbo.It all depends on the budget.i learned this in engine class i hope the info is usefull to you.i like all good engines,except w16,overkill. :)
