@anonymusum True they became a different band, but having seen them both, I would say that the faces were a fantastic live band, until about 1972 when Rod started to think he was amazing, became a grotesque caricature and ruined it all.
@TheCigartrader For me a Scottish Ferguson I like a drop of Teachers every now and then. And I like the Small Faces, the Faces, Rod Stewart, Ron Wood, Queen, Led Zeppelin, and so on... ROCK ON, BROTHERS AND SISTERS!!
This is so funny today... Elton John melodic.. well in 2011 Rod still going strong... this is the Rod I remember... he was in a class of his own! Unique and def one of a kind... moving to his own spirit
''BBC Sounds of the Saturday'' is one of the best performance I've seen of the Faces. Rod Stewart (not d) is the vocalist of course. I also like the clearance of the sound on this video.
I was looking at the description for the upload and it fairly accurate, but they didn't leave the small face to create the faces, when Marriott left they got Stewart and Wood from the Jeff Beck Group as a replacement. They released an album as Small Faces, but the name referred to all of them being really short and, as Stewart and Wood were both fairly tall they simply dropped the small.
Rod picks up the insecurity of the interviewer like a red rag to a bull . Dont mess with ROD ! He does not belittle the man on camera or takes offence , he makes a joke out of it with a final comment . He,s a cool dude !!!
Rod is one of the greats, that is why he is still aroud. Hell of a showman live too. I used to love the way he kicked the soccer balls around the arena.
There's no Stewart/ Marriot comparison! Each one of them, every move, every tone that came out of their mouths is priceless and should be treasured and never put to competition. Each is a jewel to a dead, short yet powerful era.
And to someone that said that this is the Black Crowes...these are exactly their influences
@anchorrot even though I put three exclaimation marks in, I think you've missed the irony in my post to Julie!!! Steve had a massive ego, about as big as it gets! made him even more the great performer he was even if he did rub a few people up the wrong way.
@mickmodchris A lot others thought as you did, Rod is from north Scotland, family name is Stewart and are or were a clan as all Scotish family's were. No big deal.
@anchorrot Hello! Just my piddly thought but I think Marriott's ego was very fragile. Stewart has a much stronger constitution, Marriott never backed down to be sure & never sold himself as he genuinely lived for his music, He was devasted when Frampton left HP, never really recoveried despite HP really sounding better after. Marriott's substance abuse is part & parcel of his majour insecurities, those who shine the brightest are blinded by their light. He was the best - to me - ego or not .
The Faces had an awesomely dirty rock sound, perfectly suited to Rod's voice. As great a rock voice as his predecessor Steve Marriott had, Rod one-upped him.
@rottenwillow No one could one up Steve Marriott. He was by far the superior vocalist, no comparison. What Steve did lack was an ego, something Stewart has in spades and it has worked well for him.
Ronnie used to be so good....ah well....

When Steve quit that was the end for the Small Faces. Ron Wood is a lousy guitar player and noone could write songs like Steve.
