The reference that you refer to, "I'd like to take this opportunity to...defend our showing of 'Does God Exist'" is DEFENDING OUR SHOWING on the STATION not the SUBJECT MATTER of "Does God Exist?". Why don't you read your sentences before posting?
hmmm...??? I personally know nothing about the "Does God Exist," and if it is even defends God's existance or denies it. Therefore Robert's public announcement was not leaning one way or the other--because I could not determine his stance on it.
The actual question of "Does God Exist?" is not the debate.
The airing of this program by a secular institution of higher education IS the issue at hand. It is inappropriate. You're right, he IS defending its broadcast, not its content and in my opinion, he is completely off in doing so. that is the problem
The question about God itself is only tangential to the discussion at all.
Yes, thank you. I agree completely. He is off in doing so, but if you are familiar with his personal choice in improvisational [humorous?] monologues you will understand that's "just how he is." [Taking an intense issue and making a situation 'comical' by making fun of the entirety of it.]
I think we can all agree that there is a huge danger in his future if he continues to broadcast in this manner--but then again, we all forget, this IS college.
Obviously this guy has a couple friends on YouTube. You go Lauren and Mr. Movie analyst. As far as a 1st Amendment violation Lauren, you are absolutely wrong. Public funding for programs that recruit christians is just as illegal as public funding for programs that recruit for the KKK.
Also, if this guy is planning a career in television, he's in trouble.
Exactly--it's a JOKE. He's not defending one way or the other, he's simply making fun of the entire situation/debate--there ARE channels. And I know it's new, but there are REMOTES.
Thank you, Robert. I guess no one knows how to laugh anymore.
Similar cases have lost funding by order of state supreme courts. I personally think this instance "Does God Exist" is even worse than those cases due to slanderous remarks targeting other systems of belief.
