@DarleenCole You missed the point entirely. Pride & Prejudice, as well as other Victorian romances centered in the era completely swept the real-life, dirty figernails, poverty and brutal living conditions of the era under the rug and acted like it never happened.

It was a terrible time to live in. Especially if you were poor or sick or both. AMR shows a far more realistic scenario of how bleak, hopeless and wretched life in the Victorian Era truly was. At least the "reality" segments

The Victorian Era was in 1837-1901 when Queen Victoria was in power. That was the Industrial Booming Era. It wasn't as bad as portrayed, but then again when is the poor ever had a good era?

There is grime, squalor, seediness, and social injustices EVERYWHERE AND EVERY YEAR. So Jane Austen was speaking from her experiences, which weren't even in the Victorian Era.
