Im thinking of buying this or an ibanez jd9 to boost my distortion, wich one would be the best to get a metal/ trash metal sound. I'm using a solid state fender amp and im using the distortion from the amp
@fadeaway05 You can use this for most types of rock when you want lighter passages then go to your favorite distortion pedal in the harder passages. It's good parts in a Rush, U2, or maybe a Pink Floyd tune. Also, good for country rock, power blues, and classic rock. I use it all the time. I also use 4 types of distortion to cover all the rock genres I like. You can also use the SD-1 to push your amp's distortion.
the only pedal I could think of off hand is the OCD Fulltone, but they are different pedals. I have the SD-1 and it sounds really good and doesn't seem to alter my guitars clean tone in any way. Check out the Fulltone though because it is a great pedal, it will cost a little bit extra though
@Thealmostexactguitar ah i see... thanks bro. too bad... it's sound good though, i'm planning to buy a boss dyna drive. i guess i have to choose another brand, can you give me a suggestion with pedal who sound similliar to dyna drive but with a true bypass? Thanks
This pedal is actually a lot better than this guy makes it sound. My friend gave it to me and I play heavier tones and chords, so it's not bad. It's actually really good. If you're on a budget, it's a good choice but, if you want a bad ass pedal and you have plenty of money, get the DigiTech RP90, it has the best distortion, I've heard for a pedal.
@peroxides87 Overdrive=Think of it as your amp's clean channel with an edge to it. Cuts a bit, bright tone, yet nearly clean. My favorite. Distortion=Heavy changing of the sound. Incredible gain boost, along with boosts in treble, mid, and bass. Booster=Can either be an Amp booster or Treble booster. Amp booster are usually gain stackers. Adding more gain. Treble booster stack more treble. Just simply pushes, "boosts", your amp/pedal further.
I'm gonna be honest...I've never been a fan of boss...and I don't really like the tone of this pedal either. But to each his own. I can respect you even if you choose to like this pedal.
Do you get that freaky van halen- like... this... a little screaming sound with this one? can somebody tell me something to make my guitar scream? for tapping, eg?
Your best bet is to get an amp that has a good overdrive channel already built into it. Max the gain out on the amp itself and then get one of these pedals to use as a booster type pedal to add sustain for pinch harmonics and screaming leads
@bigcatroberts yea i tried that, but no matter what i did it would have awful sound and squeal and trust me i know how to setup an EQ, however it was on a 15 watt line (6) shitx, so that was probably the reason, also a friend of mine has one and he plays it on a 250watt Marshall but the MG series marshalls are a joke
@MegaBarger yeah I had that problem with my old Line 6 flextone. OD pedals sound great on the amp I use now. Digital amps (like the Line6 or MG) don't normally like external pedals.
i use the overdrive like a turbo button for solos example: im doing a riff with the distortion an the i step the overdrive to give the energy to the distortion to do a cool and powerful solo :)
@Jst0911 This isn't a distortion pedal, it's and overdrive pedal. And No, Blues drivers are NOT great for SRV stuff they don't deliver the mid hump, and are too transparent. SRV tone is pretty much Tubescreamer into-> on the verge of breaking up amp.
@theallmightyham i dont know why i said distortion before. and i also dont know what your talking about cause blues drivers are fine for SRV. tubescreamers are great too preferred by more probably
@Jst0911 I found my Blues driver was always too transparent for me, but I don't play a lot of striaght up blues. More fusiony stuff, if I'm in the mood.
@GreenDayPolice I have it now. Very nice pedal. It bothered me that it was sucking bass out of the tone but a simple modification fixed that. I actually prefer this over TS. Not to mention that this is a lot cheaper... The best "get you over the edge" booster I had, really like it's color.
@GreenDayPolice I just changed one capacitor value to a higher one as I can remember. I think it was C3. You can google it up. Instead of 0.047 I used 0.1 or something like that. 0.15 was a little bit too much.
i have a 1987 marshall jtm 45, i use a 1961 gibson sg with it. I want to get a more AC/DC cruch tone. but my marshall doesnt have gain control. should i go for the boss od-3 or 0d-1 overdrive pedal?
@Tombking2 sry ^^ i´m german, my english is not the best. it´s not broken in that way, its jjust not working anymore :) Got it since i´m 10 years old > now i´m 20 xD Just used it as a booster/trebler.
@SDuMmusic I had one of the first sd-1 that ever came out...over all these years there was a rust corrision on the jacks (connectors). sry. my english is not the best. :(

GREAT pedal. Very true soundclip too, same with his DS-1 clip. These will give a very good indication of what to expect from these two pedals.

@Divljina89 IMO, this pedal reacts and breaks up nicely, whereas the tubescreamer blurts out noise
