Actually, the clappers are in "free flight" as the bell comes down. Remember, when the bells are up (or "set") the clappers generally rest on the bell as it comes down in both the hand and back stroke.

its more to do with the weights going down to where the gravity is pulling which makes them do that as the bells on wheel and bearing and etc heavy bells do take time to come down as they are constantly swing like a pendulum until they stop.

not that I know of when bells are being lowered they ring faster that might be the reason why get this resonnance
