  • thanks dude this helped alot

  • Ive been thinking about getting into warhammer because I love the lore and think it would be a great way to increase my nerd levels. Would it be worth my money to buy that start up kit that comes with the space marines and orks because it comes with a rule book (i think) and some just starting out units, or just learn the rules online or buying the rule book from amazon? I want to play necrons but from what Ive heard, their codex is pretty dated. Is that necessarily a bad thing?

  • @SableDement Hey man, not sure if you've found stuff out yet, but the Necrons veery recently got an update with some pretty cool stuff going on!

Also, the Black Reach set is a great way to start as it gives you everything you need to start playing games of 40K right away, if I were just starting I'd definitely pick it up! Hope this helped

  • Hi Guys, Dave from Australia here, these video's have been a great help to me & my son, thanks heaps!

  • @Daveydee72 Thanks for watching and commenting!!! Glad they helped.

  • thats really lucky that everything else is optional because of my 6 HQ choices

  • 8 people that watched this video were Orks

  • @doremicom When you rool the dice at the start of the game what are the different missions to play with and what are the different types of deploys and thank you this video helps alot

  • @doremicom codex marines? necrons? whirlwinds? I AM SO CONFUSED (ive never played this before)

  • New players who have experience in other wargames often approach this game with the attitude of "this will be easy all the kids play it" but then find out that it is a very complex game to get a hang of with mechanics such as ap and gtg

  • How did learn all this! no really :) i dont really get where people learn stuff like this from. i know this may sound stupid but i dont understand WTF! XD hey are saying in the codex most of the time.

  • Just got challenged to a game of 40K and I've never played it. It's going to be interesting.

  • do these rules still apply in 2011 or have they changed

  • Started a imperial guard army its nice to get the basic rules down :)

  • Awesome video. Thanks. Helped a lot.

  • Is it Required that you have an Assault Sqaud and 2 Heavy support vehicles or is that just optional?

  • @KEVzzzilla Only thing required in 5th edition is 1 HQ and 2 Troop choices.... everything else is optional.

  • @doremicom doremicom, i was wondering if i could ask you a few questions, i'm a new 40k player and i'm starting to build an army and need a few pointers, please write me back if you have time...

  • @doremicom so i can hav like 5 elite squad and 4 heavy support????

  • @FoolHunter8462 Sorry no, but there's a difference between required and limited to. you are limited to a max 2 HQ, 6 Troop, 3 of everything else. Unless you're playing Apocalypse which has no force org requirements/limitations.

  • meow meow penguin man says this: what is your fav army that is a weird pred is it a normal one or a forge world thing

  • meow meow penguin man says this: what is your fav army

  • Great podcast and thanks for posting this video! I would love more information on point value games and force organization charts. How small is too small and how big is too big? How does the chart work if you want to play more than 500 points?

  • Thank you so much for these videos. I'm a new player who read the rule book at least 5 times before finding these videos. I learn better from watching than I do reading so I learned much more from watching these series once than I did from all the reading.

  • This guy is hot, I have a big think for geeks, let alone ones that tell me about how to do my troop selection <3 oh mur <3<3

  • to anyone who cld help me: my 2 kidz just got this game ( 10y old). Now, the rules with the dices and all are quite heavy ...does any one cld send me a summary of the basics rules for the dices and tactics etc...cheers ladz.

  • I used to play alot of 40K, however i had to quit as it was to time consuming .. :(

    keep up the good work.

  • were dya get your scenery???

  • How do you know what weapons they are carring I mean like in Black Reach they all have scoped weapons do I get a merit for that.

  • Could you make this video series available for DL somewhere? I am trying to teach friends and customers to play and a visual learning aid is a great help.

  • this is awesome i stopped playing war hammer for a long time and needed to refresh my memory

  • So I'm assuming getting the 5th edition rulebook would be a good idea XD I've had fourth for almost a year, is fifth a whole lot different?

  • Great video man. It really helps!

  • nice vid

  • thanks for the video. It's helpful

  • @SchwarzwaldtheCrazy You are welcome. Thank you for the kind words.

  • i started with space marines and orks (assult on black reach) and wanted to go for tyranids after but they were just over my budget and then i discovered imperial guards now all i need is the codex i can play basics (move, shoot) but i can understand the rule book i cant do wounds, close combat, assult and what to do if you get the 6: explode! thing when a vehicle is wounded and i dunno how to do the vehicle armour but i hope to learn here :3

  • Thanks a lot! I needed this video! It's very well spoken, and im looking to play 40k.

  • what does HQ mean

  • Thank you very much for Uploading this bro

  • Can this be played on the floor?

  • @GaltXX Yeah, just be careful not to step on the models. Many of them can be very spikey.

  • @magikmhan321321 i see your logic lol.i just dont have spare tables liein around >.>

  • Does a monolith for necrons count as a HQ choice?

  • @Iamthespy2275 i think its heavy support

  • Great video. I'm a total noob regarding Warhammer 40k and I have a question. When I'm buying the "Assault on Black Reach" pack, I get the 40k rulebook. But what is a codex and when do I need it? Do I have to buy one to start playing the game? greetings from germany.

  • @TimmyVanilla greetings from Southern california a codez is basically the rule book for the army you decide to play with all there special rules and characters and you usually do have to buy one to really get a feel for your army and to get more in depth because i think in black reach you get a small rulebook which has all the details on every army but not enough to really be able to play them well. so i say get the codex as soon as you can.

  • black Templar don't get whirlwinds

  • @kennybigmac81 True, I was playing them as a codex marine chapter.

  • It still confuse me if the ork trukk can ram or tank shock? what video you have that explanation?

  • I WUV YOU

  • cameras Crockett.

  • im new on this game brought my first orcs today : ) gonna paint them and fight some space marines bastards ^^

  • Hi, I've played the video-games for a while, and recently bought a very very very small selection of models (4 orks, just to see what they were like). Previously knowing nothing about the game, I have to say, this video is extremely helpful. Easy to understand, and you explain everything you say. Thanks so much for posting these!

  • i want to get into 40k, but i don't wanna invest in a large army untill i get a firm grasp on the gameplay and rules...i've been compiling a few 500pt lists, and i was wondering...would it be to my advantage to have a 750pt list? i want a small army, but lately i find 500pts to be too restricting (you usually have to make compromises for a 500 army and leave out most of the fun stuff)

  • if a normal bolter has a scope, does it increase the range of the marines?

  • @popman638isthebest no, read your codex under WARGEAR and look up BOLTER...it dosin't say anything about scopes. besides, if a scope improved the range, it would probably have ended up as a wargear option (wich would have been cool) sorry bud, their cool looking, but that's about it.

  • @sonhighguy

oh ok thanks, i just bought a rulebook, basics are easy, Ballistics skill minus 7= what you need to get or above to hit, their is a table which tells you how much you need to wound, and stuff like that, but tomorrow i am going to my first tournament, i am writing down everything i will need to know, but thanks anyway...

  • @popman638isthebest the rulebook is like any standard textbook...the parts that are "boxed" are usually the things to remember most. if u want, it's easier just to scan your book and highlight the things that u need to remember and study them until you have it down...it's intimidating i know, but after a week or two, you'll have the rules down pat. good luck in your first tourney.

  • @sonhighguy

thanks, 500 man kill team, i won.

then i had a go at normal warhammer, i lost lawl.....

  • @popman638isthebest your campaign has begun...one victory will lead to others, and as far as warhammer fantasy goes...i sucked too, but it's cool...wargaming rules in all it's forms, even when u lose :P

  • @sonhighguy

    true...

it IS a time consuming task, but it is a fun one.

after playing normal warhammer, i realized 40k is WAY easier, now i can pretty much grasp the rules, i also have a rulebook, and i took your advice, thanks, i am a bit rusty but i will get good soon.....

  • @popman638isthebest awesome...may your dice roll 6's brother ;)

  • @sonhighguy

same for you, may your soldiers always achieve armor saves, and never flee from battle

    *salute*

  • @popman638isthebest they know no fear......cause they know my punishment is far worse than death XD

  • @popman638isthebest Think about the question. Scopes don't increase range in real life, they just help a little bit to increase accuracy. 5th edition seems to be very realistic.

  • @EnteruserIDhere1

think about it yourself, a gun may be able to fire a bullet a large distance, but how can you hit a far target if you cannot see it, range is governed by your line of sight, if you take a scope off of a sniper, it won't be able to hit a target from as far a distance it could have before...

  • Are you involved in tourneys with the local game stores in your are?

  • when ur in hand 2 hand combat can u retreat?

  • @jawatrader123 -- This is a tricky question to answer. Certain codexes have models with "hit and run" special rule. Or the Space Marines can choose to fail a morale test at the conclusion of combat and fall back. Necrons can teleport away from the assault in certain cases. 80% of the time, unless you're fleeing combat, you can't disengage. Vehicles without a WS (and are not immobilized) can drive off during their movement phase.

  • Sitting down and going through your series. Great stuff, thanks for the effort. Being new to 40k is a big learning curve.

  • @VonBaronZ Thank you for the great comment. Glad it was helpful.

  • WoW this was just what i was looking for. awesome tutorial. thx alot for uploading this.

    5 stars

  • @vinkeveen2 You're very welcome.

  • thank you so much im a new comer to this game just bought the assualt on black reach 2day

  • welcome to 40K

  • Thanks alot man. Im also a new comer to the board game. This helps alot.

  • it is a nice video but the rules are 7th edition now some things are different but most people will be happy to explain the rules to you at a place where you can buy the models

  • 7th...?

    Uh... no.

  • really? u did see that i corrected myself a month ago right?

  • I hadn't seen that, no. Sorry.

  • oops nevermind my bad

  • nice video i'm a new comer to warhammer helps a lot

    thanks

  • you're very welcome

  • so wait for my HQ i want to have marneus calgar with his honor guard, a terminator chaplain, and a terminator librarian. would this count as 3 separate HQ choices or could i put them all into one squad and have it be one HQ choice?

  • each choice is a HQ slot, so you could have:

Marneus and one or the other.

Honor Guard don't take a slot.

The two individuals could join each other.

  • Depending on what army you want to play, you can have a whole variety of HQ choices, but unless they are Honor Guard which dont count but go with your HQ anyway you can only choose one unit

  • i dont know how hard it is but cud u explain the points system? i mean how many point to an army and how many point is say a heavy suport worth?

  • no point to me explaining it, you need to acquire the codex for your army. Different models cost different things. The same unit (like assault terminators) may cost different points based on which Space Marine army you're playing. Smallest game is 500 points. A typical game is anywhere between 1500-2000 points. Often the tournament, (or talking with your opponent ahead of time and just agreeing on the points for the game) will tell you how many points you can play with.

  • im fairly new to the game so i dont reli know the points system yet or anything like that but rite now in my space marine army i have 1 land raider 5 asault terminators chaplin casius 10 man tactical squad and a scout squad and a iron glad dreadnought. is that a leagle army? is there anythiung else i need or that i need to get rid of?

  • @EMOBOY12344 That technically is a legal army:

    1x HQ - Captain

2x Troops - Scout and TActical squad

2x Elite - Assault Termies Dreadnought

1x Heavy Support (or Dedicated Trans) - Land Raider.

You meet the min for 1 HQ and 2 Troops. And you don't exceen the maximum for your elites, heavy support, or fast attack (which you don't have yet). Legal army, just don't know what the points would be for that.

  • i know this isnt reli about the video but i thought u may be able to help me with somthing so erm your aloud 3 heavy suport yeh? so i cud have 3 land raiders? and u can have 3 elites? so i cud have 3 units of terminators n make the landraiders there dedicated transports? which terns the landraiders into elites too? wudnt that mean i cud have another 3 land raiders to fill the 3 heavy suport choices? so i cud have 6 land raiders?

  • @EMOBOY12344 It gets even better than that. Anything identified as a dedicated transport, is simply not factored against your force org chart. So if you have 3 units of terminators (and they happen to be elites) and each of them can take a land raider as a dedicated transport. You still have 3 heavy support options at your disposal. Just don't forget that all armies need an HQ and 2 troop choices to be a valid army list in a standard 40K game.

  • were to get a table to play on and how long it must be??? (i live in the netherlands so not wallmarkt or something ;))

  • always good vids, keep it dorm

  • "what his troop selections are"

well they dont give you much choice?

  • thanks, the book is quite hard to understand for some reason, but you made it easier

i think i find stuff easier while listening

  • this is great but when does it get to the rule changes of fith ed thanks

  • There isn't one video for changes in rules, it's designed to be a complete basic rules overview. You commented on the first video of about 25. Did you see them all?

  • still watching

ignore my comment i just got bored at the first vid

  • out of curiosity, did they remove the C'Tan ability to pass through solid objets and impassable terrain? I haven't gotten a chance to look at the 5th edition Necon Codex yet.

  • can u really have 2 hqs?

  • yes

  • Thanks for the video. Please keep on.

  • If I have a commander with 3 Attacks, shooting a Storm bolter (Assult 2), will I roll for 6 shots?

  • no, attacks are only used when calculating close combat attacks during an assault. When firing your storm bolter, you only shoot twice.

  • Awsome, thanks.

  • does any one know if this army is ok? :

    2 troops

    1 hq

    4 heavy support

    4 fast atack

  • Yes, that army is ok.

As long as your army has 1HQ and 2 Troop choices you are good to go.

Unless there is something Im unaware of that says otherwise.

  • max fast attack and heavy support is 3

  • no, the maximum number of fast attack and heavy support is 3. so you could have 2 troops, 1 hq, 3 heavy support, 3 fast attack. The only time this number may change is in planetstrike and apocalypse.

  • Just check the points you want.

  • how many points is a marine bike worth

  • iv only seen a coupal of girls play but i do reconmend start playing

  • @crisis250 another girl here, just fyi, chicks rock because men really don't think that we can play, oh and how wrong some can be, a deadly mistake!

  • im thinking about starting to play this with a friend is it worth it, (im a girl) do many other girls play?

  • Not many girls play, but it is awsome when they do!

  • @fluffyflumpftw i would say not many girls play it but i think it would be worth it because you get to meet many people weather there your age a bit younger or well in to there mid life. But it can get very expensive and a little time consuming when your painting your models. But anywho back to the question at hand no not many girls play it.

  • @fluffyflumpftw Yes it is worth it, and the second is tricky. Depending on where you are you'll find either a lot of girls playing or none at all. in my region there are 4 female players that I know of. The hobby is fun when you can find opponants that aren't idiots or have the maturity level of a 5yo, but it does make a dent in your pocket. the models will never change [tho the base sizes will sometimes] and the codex's change very often, so plan on buying a lot of books for your army

  • @fluffyflumpftw it is pretty much girl heavy this game. every gamesworkshop is full of girls

  • ty, sorry about not saying it before mi bro was on the com and i was babysitting

  • someone plz reply

  • hi,im quite new to 40k and i have made a plan for an army and i was wondering if i would be allowed it.here it is:

    2 hq's

    3 troops

    3 elites

    1 fast attack

    1 heavy support

    2 dedicated transport

it come up to 1500 points

  • yep, that's fine

  • it depends on the modles

  • i havnt really played 40k since 4th ed.. so i been a little squeemish about going down to game nights at my local games workshop..

but thanks to your vids i can get my head around it a bit more and boost my confidence ! =]

Thanks for the upload dude! ^__^

  • you're welcome!!!

  • if you only just learning the game.. i suggest buy assault on black reach... it comes with a mini rulebook (has everything you need to know)

2 small armies (space marines and orks) and a very little tutorial on how to play your first match.

if u need any tips or help just message me on my profile or go in to your local gameswork shop or hobby store..

    have fun! =]

    /Peace.

  • i started yesterday and i bought necorns and got he codex do i still need the warhammer 4000 rule book to understand the rules

  • yes... and unfortunately... the book is rather expensive...

however... if you get the "assult on black reach" set... it comes with a mini rule book that has everything you need to know it it.

  • thank you for making a vid that finally explains how to play this game in normal language.

  • me to i got rickrolled =d

  • My friend plays this , but i often help him build stuff , i like the futere tech version of warhammer

  • the future one? this is it... 40k

the other one is called fantasy

    --

you should look into getting your own army... sounds like your friend knows a little about what he is doing so ask him to start you off with a few practice matches with his army/armies and if u like it.. go and buy a battleforce (starter kit you could say)

  • your series 1, #1 and #2 will not load.. :(

  • ok.. nvm. I had to load it through the collection portal..

  • U R AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • no no no, you are awesome. Thank you for this comment, it's totally made my day.

  • hy i got a problem chode you help me plz??

  • Thanks for the 40k Tutorials. Very cool. Much better than the Round Table discussion vids.

KEEP DOING THE TUTORIAL VIDS. FORGET THE ROUND TABLE

  • I appreciate your tutorial enthusiasm. You did notice that there are 3 entire series of tutorials, right? I wanted to add a few more, but time restrictions on my end are prohibitive to that. Between setup, film, transfer to computer, edit, render, transfer to YouTube and annotations I'm looking at 4-5 hours for each 10 minute tutorial vid. If there's a particular rule that you really need explained, shoot me a PM, I'll see if I can work it in. Don't be so down on the RTD, variety is good.

  • i remember i saw this vid on some random search of warhammer(i was cattualy trying to find hammer of war)and i watched it and now i have a 2000 point space marines 2750 points IG and 2 realm of battle gameboards your awesome

  • is HQ counted as orc warboss, necron lord and space marine captain

  • He listed almost every terrain except water !!!!!!!!!

  • Geez this is so expensive you have all those terrain and armies I wish I had the money. Why must it be so expensive?!?

  • is the HQ basicly the comanding officer?

  • You are saying you need 2 squads in order to have 1 HQ?

    Chaos Space Marines.

  • No, but for a standard mission you need 2 units of Troops and 1HQ to play.

  • I aint got no models for this yet. cause i aint got anybody that lives near me or even in this city that would even recommend playing this

  • You be surprised, My friend Introduce me to the Game, and if you saw him in the street. You Would think He Strait Gangstar. and He is, except for his liking of this game.

  • Eh, i would try but everything costs so much! All i want is either dark eldar or eldar D:

  • the game

  • Depends on what you buy. There is no set price for this game. It's not like buying the board game monopoly, where the game has a fixed cost. This is why I asked you my follow on question, how much does what cost. There are costs for the rule set (but this is variable depending on if you buy the starter set or the hardback book). There are costs associated with the models, but then you have to answer which ones. Go to the games workshop website.

  • it does depend on what army you play... if you want more, swamp like orks are more in whole because, hints swamp... need more units.

the average amount i found is around 100 to start your HQ is your main leader and hes normal $25 then you need the 2 squads, clans.. yada yada...

an average box is 1 squad of 10 and costs around $25-$35

so at the best you pay around $75.

at worst you pay around $95.

its an expensive game but so much fun to play.

  • how much dose this cost in pounds plz tell me

  • how much does what cost?

  • really good work man...i have bin looking for this for soo long = i will subscribe you :P

  • Thanks!!!

  • 5th edition rules suck and are a step back from 4th edition... the line of site is so confusing, it doesn't explain if you can or can't shoot through friendly units and if you can't that's stupid. Further more the idea of if you can see it you can shoot it goes back to the complicated 3rd edition rules

  • you cant shoot through friendly units

  • yes you can

  • yeah i got mixed up with a tank rule somehow lol

    my bad

  • You must have not played fifth edition long because it is very stream lined.

  • can u have 2 tactical squads yeh and a chaplain ( lemartes ) yeh?

  • chaplain lemartes is a HQ from the blood angels chapter and i ges he is playing black templars (or vanilla)( the army he was playing in the video)

  • Is a dreadnought a Heavy Support option?

  • Dreadnoughts default as elite choices although I think if you have a master of the forge you can take them as elite or heavy support.

  • Oh ok, thanks!

  • i just found out that there is at least one army that has dreadnought and has to take them as heavy support - daemonhunters.

  • its just that i dont know how to install it because the video on justin tv doesnt start up

  • I've got a tech call into that. I think they're redoing it because of a new update the Vassal 40K folks are working on. Generally speaking if you venture to vassal40k . com you and navigate to the download section, all of the instructions are there as well.

  • hi doremicom i was wundering on the vehicle damagam table who rolls the die to see what happens to the vehicle is it the person who owns the vehicle or the person who shooting the vehicle

  • person shooting at the vehicle. Although in a friendly game, it doesn't matter.

  • thanks i was wornding as my mate said it was the person who owned the vehicel

  • how is the points system work?
