Curious. If you had to name one area of practice that put you where you are, what would it be? Does learning songs have more of an effect than, say, doing scales? Do you think it's important to learn where all the notes are on the fretboard, master scales up and down the entire fretboard?

I just like getting into other guitarist's heads a little... Especially one's that are better than me.

@gatheringstorms: well...im not good but you question captured me...well i guess...scales helps a lot in doing ad lib solos or improvisations...so it's better cause it gives you opportunity to play your own music not just learn the song of the others..:D
