  • 2 words.. GEORGE. JONES.

  • this video is great.this was filmed at dollywood.how do i know cause i was there.belive it or not iam just one of the people next to the stage screaming.thank you guys for a great video i love you guys.

  • PEOPLE! this was the break out of Rock Country. In the 1980s these guys were knocking down ALL the standards, while setting new ones with every "video." (That's how you said it then, remember MTV had just taken off, videos were all the rage, but deff not country western.) You can't compare them to George Jones, Porter Wagner, Johnny Cash or any of the Old Guard. Sawyer Brown were the New Thang! When Mark Miller started jumping round and round in those parachute pants everybody went WHOA!

  • Haha I heard Bobby Weir and The Greatful dead do this song and they have nothing on Sawyer yet alone the possum himself.

  • high steppin, heel kickin country badass boys!!! awesome rendition!!!

  • I consider this to be rock country!

  • The race is on and here comes Gordon in the backstretch, Earnhardt going to the inside, Casey Mears is holding back and tryin not to fall, Mark Martins out of the race

  • that is why George Jones is king... what is with the hair? good cover but not george. what wver happened to them?

  • No thanks... Bobby Weir did a much better version

  • @deweypug ....I just had a listen to Bobby Wier singing this song and ,I'm sorry but I think he's not even in the same league !!

  • @SpotNFlo Try this one: The Race is One Grateful Dead, Utica, NY 3/22/73...

  • @SpotNFlo agreed by far a better version

  • @deweypug To tell you the truth. George Jones is the "BEST BAR NONE."

  • Anyone else remember this group on Star Search?.....lol

  • Why isn't the full version of this video available anywhere? And how come every uploaded version of this video has a horrendous aspect ratio?

  • @PrinceOfEternos83 ...."Cause that's as good as it's gonna be Horace . and How come you're sproutin off anyways !! ..ya 'aint got no video uploads at all !!

  • @SpotNFlo Hmm...don't know who this Horace is that you're flipping out at. If that's the best answer you could come up with, you may as well have said nothing at all. It only makes you look rather feeble. And I'd rather upload nothing than the same garbage others have uploaded.

  • @PrinceOfEternos83 ...Sorry 'bout that ...Your Highness !! ..ol'chap .... yes I look feeble but I see you don't have a profile pic. for me to pull to bits !! ....Oh BTW , I uploaded this song from an old TV recorded VHS tape from, If I remember rightly, the old "Shotgun Red " series. ....and yes ... It was the Full Version.

  • don't get me wrong, mr.sawyer done a GREAT job on this song.. but there is only one George Jones!

  • It's hard to realize the greatness I am witnessing...

  • every day he shufflin'!

  • Nay look upon me and know me...Im pretty sure this is a Grateful dead song guys.

  • @HardcoreJesus100 George Jones wrote and preformed in 1964. The Grateful Dead covered it in 1981.

  • @SomeGirlNamedSara oh thanx dude.....KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!

  • This was filmed at the theater in Dollywood. I was there on the day that Mark was wearing the sleeveless blue jean shirt, Went every year to see them there. They are amazing.

  • how about charlie pride also sang this song

  • jesus boys and girls take the fight to the parking lot or somethin

  • i saw sawyer brown in concert when i was little and he was awesome he lifted my little sister up on stage and gave her a rose and sang a song to her

    i was unforgettable

  • @ravenator33 you are obviously oblivious to country music and what is good or not good regenerator pp. When you compare george jones to sawyer brown in the same sentence. George Jones was 1 of the greatest country icons who ever lived. I KNOW Bobby Randall personally and even he would think you were a joke in saying that, Altho they sure were a great and fun group.

  • damn i am 18 years old and i love this song

  • like that song been so long ive heard this song

  • Now the race is on and here comes flying down the backstretch, EARNHARDT goes to inside...

  • love's me some swayer brown thanks for posting hoss

  • Im looking for a song which's music video had somekind of race all over a world with skeletons and one of them skeletons had tophat and the one with the hat was following the cars everywhere and singing! Oh, and the one with hat was quite big compared to the cars!

  • Dang, hell of 90's pants coupled with just a vest....so dated...great song though.

  • @AssBurgerDeluxe that's 80's not 90's the only reason i know that is cause this cd came out b4 90 i was still living in cali then and i seen them live at great America i was 4 or 5 right after they won on start search

  • Comment removed

  • @AssBurgerDeluxe sorry this video came out in 1989 but i seen them in 1985 in concert

  • Sometimes I wish I was older so I could go back in time and see some of these great bands in their prime!

  • saw these guys live couple months back. they were still awesome.

  • I Love this song It reminds me of a guy that I called skull in the MARINE CORP. Just with longer hair! And I also had to Live through this!

  • I love how he tries to dance and looks like he is twitching lol love this guy

  • There could be several George Jones versions as in White Lightning. I tend to be a traditionalist in many things, but alot of old country songs sound old. Sawyer Brown has consistently done good updated versions of old classics. Check out their version of Six days on the Road. They Should Do "The One I Loved Back Then". Besides, noone sells records if they do carbon copies of songs. Love Sawyer Brown.

  • This is the best song ever I'm so glad I found!

  • i have loved this song since i was little i mean ya im only 16 but still(: i love this song<3

  • OMG I've only ever heard the George Jones version before, but I have to say this is awesome.

  • anyoen knwo when this song was made

  • I haven't heard song in forever and I can still remember the entire chorus! AWESOME!

  • Yeah I don't think George would mind.

  • how doesn't this have more views?!

  • An AWESOME song! :)

  • in my opinion it is the best country song ever

  • @Jetskigunner I can't get my computer volume as loud as I want to listen to it!!

  • Sawyer Brown is amazing and he has some of the most "grip you by the heart and make you feel" music out there. I love this song. I also love his "Cafe Down on the Corner" and "All These Years" There is a song called, "I Was Almost Home" by Craig Morgan, I wish he would do a cover of that song. I would cherish both :D

  • sorry i didnt think it posted hte first time

  • how can the winner lose all? is the woman a whore so whoever wins still loses?

  • @gjohn7408 no its because whichever wins hapens first. ex: if tears win he will cry, if heartache wins he will have heartache. that help?

  • @TheRedboar363 awww ic that makes sence thanks

  • someone answer my question, how does the winner lose all? is the woman a whore so whoever wins still loses?

  • Great country music!

  • Can someone post their song "Break My Heart Again"? It's not on Youtube anywhere. It's a nice track.

  • Frankly I just love this version of this song. Luvs me some George Jones, but I like Sawyer Browns version even better. I know...BLASPHEMY!!! lol.

  • @clovisman ...No it's not ...It's how you feel ... Good on you Mate !!

  • @clovisman Personally I think they did it better, the speed makes it sound more like an actual RACE announcer.

  • @clovisman my mom was a huge george jones fan and she always said she loved george's better and i would come back and say no sawyer brown is better lol.

  • @hughoconnorfan does it matter which one was better there both great

  • who gives a shit its a redone either its good of bad...there both good in their way.. maybe the george jones version is for the 90 years olds and this one is for the ones that wanna get up and kick ass.

  • 14 people lost the race.

  • osum moves :)

  • osum moves...:)

  • I saw these guys in 1990 or 1991 in Basin Wyoming at an outdoor concert. It was a very high energy outstanding time. They are a great band.

  • don't listen to the trolls, artists who cover songs by trying to duplicate the original are just pathetic to me. nothing wrong with learning someone elses song but if you're paid to make music find a way to make it your own, they didn't write this song but this version is theirs, i love it. another good example would be "jesse's girl" covered by fricken a. love that one too

  • I like his pop country, but, damn, why do they have to wear MC Hammer pants?

  • The dude singing has the most awkward moves Ive ever seen.

  • 14 people hate country music

  • I love George Jones oh so much, but this version is just a little better :P I mean like, not everyone can remake a freeken George Jones song! lol

  • I've never seen so many mullets on one stage!

  • NO MORE ADS!! Jesus, I just want to listent to a song.

  • Mulletts!!!!! Run!

  • Sawyer you need to come to St.John's Newfoundland.

  • How can ppl dislike this song its awesome!!

  • Sawyer Brown is one of the few country music acts that I genuinely like. Sure beats the hell out of the Taylor Swift soft-pop bs they play on the radio nowadays.

  • Pretty good, luv Sawyer Brown anyway !

  • are you kidding???? i am Mexican and i can tell you that this is a joke...

George Jones is the only guy that can do this song,,, we Mexicans love George...

  • who can forget the late 80's to early 90's when anybody could make a country hit and look as horrible as possible but STILL be considered cool?...I remember being a kid jamming to this song on WMRN FM 107 from Marion Ohio

  • Anytime someone tells me that I cant dance I have them look at Mark Miller.

  • @abord1701 Hey look at the video for "Some girls do " He can't dance but he tries really hard !!! Woo Hoo :)

  • @megacat2012 He had a totally destroyed knee.. Had surgury after that video... Sawyer Brown is AWESOME!!

  • Didnt like these guys too much but this ill say for sure...very very good entertainers...on stage performance was excellent

  • Mullets were kinda like the thing in the early 90s.

  • these guys make mullets look cool kinda.

  • George Jones sing this song and Loretta Lynn sing it and Sawyer Brown

  • Wow! Way to ruin a great song. Just brutal.

  • @bahwayne16 .... As you get a little older you'll learn to tolerate ,and even enjoy other versions of great songs that you've heard ...you say "check out George Jones" ... Well I was listening to George Jones before you were born, but these Guys have given the song a revamp that,in my opinion has done the song proud !!

  • @SpotNFlo Agree, there is no boundaries, i listen to both versions :D

  • @SpotNFlo Before I heard George Jones's version I thought Sawyer Brown's version was the best. Mark Miller has a great voice.

  • @SpotNFlo Aint that the truth I love 80 -90 remakes of music my favorite remake is Garth Brooks shameless no one could do a better job as that man did.

  • @bahwayne16... "as long as theyre done right. this one wasnt " ........ further proof that you're not mature enough to comment and your "dang yall" redneck slang doesn't do you any favours either.

  • @SpotNFlo well mister. i aint tryin to get no favors. and i didnt know ya had to be mature to comment on a video. and thats how people in mississippi talk ole boy.

  • @bahwayne16 Just stop tryin' lol

  • @aerofan0627 ya wanna start in on me too huh? lol people like yall crack me up. yall take everythin too seriously and get offended by the least little thing. like i told mrblaze0505. CALM YOUR TITS. agervatin little cuss...

  • @bahwayne16 yeah can George Jones dance like the sawyer brown? no

  • @bahwayne16 You, sir, need to learn some internet manners.

  • @bahwayne16 < Sawyer Brown, the FIRST American Idle...First band to ever win on Star Search

  • @bahwayne16 Sorry dude, I have heard both versions and this one blows his out of the water. George was too twangy for this song, sounded like he was trying too hard to sing it. Sawyer Brown did this song right but it sounds like you wont take any ideas but your own.

  • @dhart1977 well man lemme tell ya. jus like i told spotnflo. you got your opinions and i got mine.

  • @bahwayne16 hey idiot douchebag kid this is the original singer

  • I can recall thinking mark Miller was so dreamy when I was a little girl

  • @redhairedhoney Me to hehe.

  • Love this song!!

  • what year did their version come out??? They were really good. I thought that had potential but where are they now?

  • @Hollygirlwwe This version came out in 1989 on The Boys Are Back album.

  • It ain't easy to cover a George Jones classic but Sawyer Brown nailed this one.

  • LOVE WHEN MARK DANCES, GREAT GROUP !!!

  • A great show at the Jamboree in the hills this year. Way to go!

  • These guys are about as much country as Elton John is.

  • @KasperNV1

  • George Jones is better nothing can beat the man that sing this 1st.. when this 1 comes on i play George Jones the King of Country music

  • its good but nothing can beat jones

  • Noticing a rather strange similarity, not sure if it's just me, but at 0:05-0:10 when he's punching the air, in that stance and outfit, for some reason he makes me think of David Bowie...

Anyway, awesome song, haven't heard it in years though.

    PP

  • First time I've heard anybody but George Jones do this song...You sound great and you sure look like fun!

  • oh yes Sawyer Brown can sing and he does a great job at it too.

  • Saw them in Pensacola, April 1991, opening for Hank Jr. They were awesome! Actually, they were better than Hank, who was so drunk, they had to push him out in a chair!

  • The race is on and here comes flyin in the backstretch EARNHARDT goes to the inside lol me and my dad love pickin on this song
