  • Wow.. As a member of the Whiteman AFB Honor Guard, im sorry for your loss.. But that was a terrible flag fold, many things were missing on this to make it live up to its full potential..

  • @Flintstone116 It was a bad job yes but I am grateful the Air Force came. We all have bad days at work, I think the flag for the coffin was a different size or something. Thank You for commenting and for your selfless service to this great nation. God Bless You

  • @thepc123123 IDK how your comment got removed, I am sorry and I thank you for the kind words that you had to say.

  • @partin1970 sorry mate, it was removed by my wrong click, I dont know how to get it recovered.

Here is what I wrote by memory sory for that I am not American but I feel grieved about your loss and my eyes are with tears when the US flag is handed over to that sad madam as if I am suffering the same pain

It's honor for everyone to serve the country

God bless your father and family an us all

    ps really bad folding

(this approximate to what I thought but i cant remember original one exactly)

  • As a member of the Dover Air Force Base Honor Guard i want to apologize for your fathers lost but i would most like to apologize for the worst flag fold sequence i have ever seen your father deserved better...

  • I'm sorry for how poor this team did "paying respects" to your father. Again, we thank him for serving for our great country. I just wish this team would of practiced more to show more respect to a great man.

  • Good to go brutha...Good To go.

  • respect

  • Rest in peace, on behalf of all of the British Armed Forces.

  • these Honor Guard Airmen need way more training before being placed on someone's funeral sevice!! I'm so sorry for your loss.

  • Rest in peace, thank you for your service. I am sorry for your loss

  • lol he had to do a refold cause he didnt cut it enough

  • My condolences on your loss. As a fellow Honor Guardsmen, I believe he could have taken his time with the flag fold. We do this to honor a fallen brother/sister and it wouldn't have hurt him ANY to have taken his time with the folds.

  • Holy moly.... look at the fold! Where's the fire? He's supposed to take his time, cut on the 1st red and have about an inch of the point passed the beginning of the union for a crisp 1-3-5. Some Honor Guards just don't do people justice...

  • im in the honor guard right now and that was complete garbage you should never unfold a flag in front of the family

  • If you're in the Honor Guard you must understand the refold process. Everyone isn't going to hit the folds right on every time. It happens. There are commands and regulations for if this happens. It's not garbage. What's garbage is the side stepping with the flag open, the big ass DROOP in the flag as they are starting to fold. But to the guy posting this video sorry for your loss and I want to say personally thanks for your dads service it means a lot to me!

  • With all this emotion taking place at this time, the last thing you're going to look at during the end of the funeral is how well the flag is folded. I commend all Honor Guard for doing the very best...

  • this is horrible im in base honor guard, your folding is trash

  • I wish the best for you! My father is still in the Air Force. And thanks for your service too.

  • if the flag is folded too tight it has to be unfolded and refolded so there is enough slack at the end to tuck it. they should have got it right the second time though

  • Im not in a honor guard, even i didnt go to the bmt yet and i fold the flag better...

  • i am also in the honor guard right now and i am sorry to the family for the poor performance these men showed during this ceremony. They did a horrible job at this.

  • Being a former Honor Guardmens I can tell you he started off wrong and keep the flag loose which sould of been his first clue. To the loved ones family I am deeply sorry about the poor performance of the United States Air Force, Yours sincerely Tsgt. S. Bautista

  • I felt the same, the family will always be grateful just showing face, but it really hits somewhere deep when you see a performance not up to par. That's why i try and bring it EVERY time i step into a cemetery before a detail. Thanks for your service and time in Honor Guard TSgt.

  • As I read the comments on this I think I should say as a veteran of Desert Storm, and the US Navy, I'm glad these guys took kthe time to get it right, or as close to right as they could. I am thankful for so much concern over the importance of showing Honor not just to my Father but also to the Flag of My country.

  • I don't know the details on this but I do know that so many Vets are dying that it's a huge challenge to get a funeral detail to the service. The fact that there are only two men folding the flag tells me that this team is short handed. The other question is how often these airmen have to do this and is it their first time? Why is an SRA doing the folding? And why is the other SRA presenting the flag? Those are NCO and Officer tasks. So b4 you crucify these kids think what's really going on.

  • This could be a "Veterans Honors" funeral. The kind of honors where the person was a Vet, but didn't retire from service, they just got out. They don't get a full 7 member team.

  • vet- two man flag fold and taps

retired-6 pallbearers 3 man firing party and taps.

    active duty- full honors.

    hope that helps

  • did he un fold it ong im in civil air patrol honor guard that is a disgrace that is the usaf honor guard wow im sorry 2 who ever this is

  • No! its some base honor gaurd. 2 the flag had to be refolded because there was no room to tuck the end. i agree very sloppy but it happens sometimes. as long as it had no red showing and no lumps, you can hand it off.

  • I have folded a lot of flags as a 20 year member of a Fire Dept Honor Guard. This has to be one of the worst displays of dishonor to our flag, our Nation's military, and most of all, to the deceased person who gave service to our great country. That person, his family and the Nation deserved better. I know that the Air Force can and does do better. Please practice before this happens a second time.

  • it was very sloppy i agree. i practice everyday on flag folds. and must say i have had to refold a flag once our twice. you can practice all day on one flag. but there are so many different flags its hard to hit your mark everytime. the refold is not disgraceful at all the way they folded it so sloppy is.

  • OMG!!! I am a member of the DMAFB Honor Guard and this is the worst flag fold i have ever seen!!! The flag is saggy the entire time, NCOIC timing is off, and refolds seriously.

(To the Loved one, I am terribly sorry for this poor performance of the Air Force. May your loved one rest in peace.) To the Cerimonial Guardsman Shame on you and your NCOIC!!!

  • ok im in the honor guard and that guy is horrible...its not a race to see how fast you can get the flag done...these guys are a disgrace and deserved to be kicked off honor guard

  • Man that sucked im not even in the honour guard and i could have done better.

    Stephon Hudson

  • this is the worst detail I have ever seen. First off you do not go to table top in a three person vet, that is an Active Duty detail. When you re-fold you must come all the way back out to the quarter fold. The presentation was totally wrong. I could go on forever on the mistakes and all around crappy job. Point blank these troops need to be trained the correct way or stop doing details. There was not one good thing about this detail.

    NCOIC WPAFB Honor Guard

  • Rest in peace, Sir.

My condolences to the family of this airman.

    your service is appreciated.

    USAF '62-'66.

  • First off, you have my sincerest condolences for the death of your father. However, the personell who performed this honor guard ceremony did an absolutely HORRIBLE job. I've been performing honor guard ceremonies for about 4 years and I've never been more disgraced and ashamed in my life. To the young men who performed this funeral, YOU KNOW BETTER!!!!

    Sincerely,

    SSgt Such-N-Such

  • I can't agree with you anymore. I am sorry for your lose but these guys did a terrible job. There is no reason for a refold, especially 3times. it makes me feel ashamed for the AF Honor guard.

  • I am an honor SAFB HG and I have to say that even though many mistakes were made. Military bearing was not broke. Besides the refold all mistakes can only be caught by the honor gaurd...Good job guys..Train, Train, Train...

  • After watchin af ew times i noticed their haircuts and glasses. Pretty sure they arent active duty. Thank god.

Ill have to check our book to see if we actually go to table top or not for caskets, but we have all been taught that you do it that way, but with a nice pointy tight like a tiger fold.

NPBs present is all jacked up too. and why did fold walk away? thats not the way it goes.

I gotta stop watchin this video, i keep findin more and more stuff wrong with it.

  • TAPS comes AFTER you pick the flag up and take it to table top! Read the USAF Honor Guard Manual sirs.

<--- Does it all the time.

  • Taps after you go to table top is for cremains. Thats a casket... Majority of situations are like this with a 2 man and a casket.

The biggest mess up is they are sloppy with their movements, the flag is nowhere near tight, unsure of themselves. and definitly didnt hit his mark when hitting the union, and the folder is rushing, hes not taking his time. ANd the flag is like a pillow.

And the USAF Honor Guard manual that they are using might be wrong or they just dont have one.

  • With a two man there is taps, you seem to know your stuff, check out the 2009 manual, we had the trainers from Bolling AFB come out in November to teach 25 of us here at Travis, I'm one of the 6 full time staff members there, good times.

    Whats your story man?

  • To be accurate, taps is played not durring the table top but before they lift the flag to table top. This is not a 2 man funeral, it is a 3 man funeral for a veteran. The fold and the NCO approach the casket and turn in at the same time and then go to at ease then the NCO asks the family to stand for the playing of taps. He goes directly to attention and fold follows suit at the same time both rendering a salute at the same time and then they pick up the flag and fold it. The flag does look bad.

  • Sloppy fold! Amateurs.

  • Also, these guys are probably Air Guard (I hope for the sake of those who do this on active duty). This is why training A LOT is very important. Almost all civilians don't know any better so it's not so bad as long as they felt it honored their family member and friend, but we, USAF Honor Guard, do.

I was Honor Guard for over 2 years when I was active duty at Edwards AFB--very sharp team then. The AF can't slip; even the Army regards the AF Base Honor Guards highly.

  • Must have been a fake bugle too. I hated when the AF went to Taps before the flag fold--it seems as whomever made that call knows nothing about the history or the symbolism & importance of the placement of Taps in the ceremony.

  • why'd they have to fold it so many times?

  • The first fold into the union has to be just before the first star, otherwise your in trouble. Remember to cut off the excess. 13 folds is the standard. On the other hand the flags they use at funeral homes are not exact and its always hard to get a good fold every time. When do doing funerals I would use a cheaters fold, and don't forget to cut on the first fold. I've been there before, good recovery.

  • Thank you .

  • way too many mistakes!

  • holy jesus did you find this video and wanted to post? if so then nevermind lol

  • Good video. I'm choked up. Very Honorable. Thank You!

  • I do this for a living for the South Florida VA National Cemetary. The flag most of the time is a one shot deal. Not very often do you have to refold the falg but it does happen from time to time.

FYI: I am an SSGT in the US ANG.

  • do they usually have to fix it three times or what?

  • not if your on b flight

  • God bless you. Sorry about your father.

  • Thank you for your comment God Bless America

  • God bless your Father and your family. My Dad passed 11 June 2007 and was also a U.S. Air Force veteran. Thanks for posting this and may all who see it honor and respect the memory of all of the great men and women who served our country both past and present.

  • Darrel,Thank you so much for your comment.I'm sorry for your loss as well.God Bless you
