I only have 2gb plan but I only want to use icloud for "find my iPhone" how ever does it use data at random times or do I have to locate my phone to actually use data?
@CocteauBoyTV iCloud gives you 5 GB of memory of storage and you can select the apps, songs, and photos which you want to sync. Get your facts straight.
What isn't explained here is that you only get 4 gigs of space on iCloud, which is useless, so as soon as you start to backup just one of your iDevices, even with the smallest storage (8 gigs), you are prompted to have to purchase at least 10 or more gigs to make iCloud useful at all.
I agree with what you said Chris, except where you said that people don't have 'wiggle room'. Just because it's free, I don't think that means people can't give their criticism of it.
@Resistoon It's not that simple. You can completely lock or even wipe your system before it's even stolen. The minute you have lost it, you can just go onto any computer and protect you Mac computer before a criminal has time to do anything.
I haven't really used iCloud I don't think. My stuff is backed up to it but I haven't "used" it. I guess the app syncing between all devices is iCloud right? I LOVE that.
@cegomez2012 The service is brand new and free. iCloud is designed mostly for synching between devices. You should still have a hard copy of the file stored on that device (AND a backup). If you don't, it's kinda your own fault if something goes wrong.
Question. Is the iCloud website/web app accessible from older computers/browsers? Here's my scenario. I email something to myself using my new me.com iCloud email and I go to my local library wanting to access the doc i've emailed to myself. The library computers run WinXP with IE 6 or 7. Does that mean I'm screwed?
I love iCloud mail. I now forward my 3 other emails to iCloud mail (except for yahoo. When are they going to let me forward without paying?). Makes it so much easier to sync between devices and computers. Plus my contacts are there as well, which helps out a ton.
I was excited about iCloud so that I could manage my 3 email accounts in one place from any computer. But I was very disappointed when I found that windows xp was not supported. Then I got excited that I might be able to set it up on the iCloud website but couldn't figure out how to set up my 3 email accounts without a compatible computer. I do have several I-devices. Any suggestions?
@TechbyTigz you don't want to be tracked by the goverment? destroy your credit cards..... throw away your phone..... destroy your ATM cards...... Never connect to internet!
@TechbyTigz If you are connected to the internet than you can be tracked. If you have a mobile phone then you can be tracked. If you have a home phone then you can be tracked. Apple aren't the government. The Find My Mac feature is using technology that is already built into your computer so if people were gonna track you they already could. Also, the feature is disabled by default.
There is no privacy in cloud file storing. I have my harddrive in my computer and I have access to my files *without* the need to be online. (I often loose internet as I live in a remote area), Plus i'm not subject to their EULA and TS.
@739199 There is no privacy on the internet, period. If you are connecting to the net using the computer which has all your personal files stored they are still accessible by the right person. It's all a matter of whether you trust Apple. If you don't then why are you using Apple products? You are subject to their EULA just by using them.
The only feature of iCloud I use is Find my mac; I don't want someone else storing all my data on their computers, I like to know that my data is safe and I like to know where it's stored and that I can access it whenever I want it, internet connection or not.
I like iCloud. It's generally free and built in, and good stuff. I wouldn't rely on it only, I'm still going to have my physical back ups, and I will use that more. But iCloud is a good thing to have.
Chris: You may know my brother, Recording Engineer Wes/ley Seidman; He aays iClouf upsets him since he can't set timed public/private downloads, any news about it?
iCloud rocks especially once someone finally told me about iCloud.com and I was able to edit my contacts lost locate my phone wipe the iPhone I sold to a guy that I forgot to reset. Add a contact to your phone and it instantly appears in your iCloud contact list. However I wish I could export my contacts from the iCloud without needing office 2007.
my problem with icloud is I can not set photos to only go up on wifi it eats up your data plan so that part is worthless for people on limited data plans and the wifi sync is very buggy . it broke my home sharing network sometimes it works and sometimes it dose not. it will even show the share library but not show anything in it apple breaks there ios every time they release a new os hopefully they fix it in 5.1
It is okay. I can't really elaborate on iCloud since I haven't really tinkered with it. I really do like how you can buy one app on say your iPhone and iCloud will automatically push that app to all other iOS devices. I think it's neat.
I take a bunch of photos at a party or other social event. when they get to my computer they are rotated on their side. When I go to rotate them the right way I can't do it on windows by just right clicking and rotate. It gives me this dialogue about how this photo maybe in use by another program or something. Every single photo I have to open in paint.net and resave it before I can rotate it. If there's an easier fix for that I'd love to see it.
I'm really liking iCloud especially when it comes to my music and to be able to have my past purchases is the biggest thing for me. I have my albums way back from 2006 when I first started using iTunes again! :D
Interesting that Chris likes the Windows implementation more... and it's for the same reason I can't stand Mac OSX, Apple always seems to think they know best. On a simpler device like an iPhone or iPad it works but not on a desktop.
I would like to see sometime in the future if they get the copyright issues sorted is to be able to download movies or tv shows through the cloud that you have bought through iTunes than having to plug my iPad2 into my PC.
I think it sounds pretty cool. If you sign into an iTunes account in iCloud, then is that separate from the iTunes and App Store account? Our whole family uses the same iTunes account, which I would wanna keep with music and apps. But then we all have our own devices and I would wanna use iCloud with one account, then iTunes/App Store with the other one. Will that work?
I like how I now have the ability to remotely lock and find your iPod/iPhone in case you misplace it. I'm not going to go against free services. Why should you!?
I don't really have a use for iCloud. If i did have a use for it i would still prefer to have a physical hard drive with my data on same goes for everything else really. I never use the "Cloud".
@Wildboring I think you've misunderstood iCloud, it's not to replace your wires while siting with your device and computer at the same place, it's to make sure you always have access to your photos wherever you are, lets say you're out on vacation and loose your phone, you won't loose your photos since they're in your iCloud account, same thing with contacts etc. Also so you won't have to sync every time you want to acces any of them on another device.
When it comes to viewing mail that's been stored on iCloud I'd like to view the e-mails I have stored in System Preferences. I tried moving some random e-mails into the archive folder and when I had to check a new e-mail I noticed my archive folder for iCloud is blank, but it shows I have 5.3MB of mail in my cloud.

I dare you to try and get to where Chris is now, and from your attitude, I'm prepared to bet any amount of money that you can't.
Chris, im not sure about you but if i log onto icloud.com and try and reset my photo stream it dosnt reset it, are you or is anybody else you know of experiencing the same problem?
I'm hesitant about using iCloud because there might be some files I only want on one device but not the other. Im using IOS5 but still using Snow Leopard (will update soon). Will all files on my desktop automatically end up in iCloud or do I have to actually drag files into an icloud folder for it to be in the cloud?
