  • Wow I found out that I'm from the Djola people (and Balanta) of Guinea Bissau too!

  • I think i'm gonna try this. props to Q-Tip

  • Very open ended video. Unclear. Q just may have asian background. There was an historical/ancient connection with Africans and Asians. Plus why are our people always researching back to Africa? Some of us are not from Africa; some of us are right from this continent and have been here for at least 50K yrs.

  • Crushed his hopes.. Nigga really wanted to have some Asian in him

  • "Ive never been to Africa" "I believe that im like Zulu..from South Africa Zulu" gtfoh no chance, so typical for him to say that. why didnt he say Xhosa, trust we have a lot of different South Africans other than Zulu

  • i fill like every rapper should do this especial lil wayne

  • what about his Father is the most important thing because in slavery days men they used to take more men than women

  • *tears* y'all don't understand the relevance of this connection. Sankofa!!!

  • i want the music at the end!

  • @evileyez504 The music he plays on that instrument? Or the music at the very end? Because the beat at the end is Q-Tip's "Vivrant Thing." If you look it up I'm sure you can find an instrumental.

  • @evileyez504 vivrant thing by q tip

  • lol was he serious when he was talking about maybe being a zulu or part mongolian? that would've made no sense.

but anyway, cool vid. real interesting, more should get this done

  • @Trumblebee Makes more sense than most think. Our backgrounds are from Many places...You truly never know :)

  • @LaCriollaRoja well yes, african americans especially are quite mixed up genetically but i don't understand where he got mongolian and zulu from? haha i mean, the africans that were sent to america were from west/central africa. maybe it's just that the zulu are one of the most popular african tribes and he doesn't know of many others. as for the mongolian thing..i've never heard of mongolians in america so i dont understand how that would happen lol

  • @Trumblebee Well... one of my ancestors was a slave from Ethiopia...and you know where that is on the map. haha But I also know American Blacks who have roots in Polynesia-we're from the same region. You truly never know, so you know people begin to guess; trying to see if their features (Q-Tip's eye shape, etc.) and play match-up lol Chances are that's what he's been trying to do, or felt connected to them somehow..But trust me, there are no barriers on who ended up here :) lmbo

  • @LaCriollaRoja Just curious, how did you find out about your Ethiopian ancestor? Through a DNA test like this one?

As for the Polynesian thing, do you mean recent Polynesian ancestry? Yeah, that's possible.

  • @Trumblebee My great-grandmother actually met him before he passed; he was very old..So that was pure blessing lol. But I had these DNA tests done for her and her husband, so we found out the other parts that weren't recorded or known.

As for the Polynesian, as far as centuries go, yes. She's kind of older, and it was a side she didn't know of at first, if I remember correctly. Her family just thought they lighter-skinned and thought no more of it.

  • @Trumblebee But I was thought the same as you, too..like "How he just pick them of all people?" lol

  • @LaCriollaRoja Yeah lol, very random groups he chose there.

  • What about the father's side??

  • q-tip just found a sample

  • @mogiboy Same thing I was thinking. You seen his face? LOL

  • Of course he was gonna be african! All black people's heritage relates from Africa!!!

  • @ransomhotchocolate Not just black my learned friend, but that's a whole different lecture.

  • @DJCW so then what was the point of your reply?

  • @ransomhotchocolate Point is broaden your own horizons.

  • @ransomhotchocolate Human race was born in Africa. Every single race can trace their roots to Africa, we all have black ancestors.

  • You can tell he's getting inspired as that guy is playing. Q-tip's a genius.

  • q tip using a q tip

  • I am in tears...beautiful

  • This is GREAT! More content on the web like this to combat all the other mindless foolishness!

Africa! One day I'll be able to go! Q-tip, can we get an album in 2012?

  • wonder why he think he has asian in him

  • @TheRealHipHopHeads Me too...that was confusingggg....

  • @TheRealHipHopHeads my older brother looked asian when he was born too, but we dont got no asian in us

  • @whiptyme Exactly. People got to remember where Asians migrated from and what their original ancestors looked like too.

This was beautiful and so moving. I would love to do this one day.

  • @whiptyme i was jokin fool

  • How much does this type of thing cost?

  • Comment removed

  • @toneriggz On the Ancestry.com site the price range is $149.00 to $358.00, depending on what you want. YouTube will not let me post the link, so when you get to the site just click on the DNA link. Hope that helps.

  • Q-Tip is a legend.

  • nice

  • go Q Tip, put that in track.

  • that's beautiful....
