  • That # 13 is a very useable outdoor tool. Check out Blackforestghost's vids on the # 13. Awesome blade.

  • Fantastic review! Thanks a lot for sharing your collection with us :)

  • I carried an opinel for seven years. The only thing I did not like about was that the blade could not be locked closed. As the knive got older, it would open in my pocket....a big potential ouch. Other than that, it sharpened very , very well and I loved it. To me, opinel is by far the best value for the money in the world.

  • @Wanderer359 I've only owned ones with the new style of lock that locks the blade closed. I love these things.

  • I've just recently started to lose my interest in the more modern super stainless steel type knives. They're so expensive that I'm often afraid to use them. So I've started buying few cheaper carbon steel knives that really stood out. Your review (as well as the many others I've watched) helped convince me to spend the $10 and get one. LOL.

BTW that no. 13 is wicked! It's like a handheld machete. LOL. Thanks for the review!

  • @jemremyc I agree with you. Modern steels are great, but not easy to sharpen and I dislike the tactcal look of most modern knives. The Opinel is a great cutter and the knives are made to be used, even if they have their limits. I have my Esee4 for havy duty tasks.

Not to forget the historic side of the Opinel knives.

  • I had to cut package-wire with my Opinel No8 last week. Still works.

I worked on the handle and the blade as well. I gave the blade a form that is similar to the swiss army knives, because the curve always went dull too fast. And the virobloc locks also tighter now.

  • I have not carried one in a long time. Though I have a few. I am going to take a look at them again. Nice video! I have a #12 that i bought in 1977. In my last trip to France I did get a SE #8 in stainless. It is very sharp and the blade looks almost like a scimitar.

  • Nice vid friend, opinel knives are great kitchen prep knives..i have just got myself a opinel no.13 now thats a knife ;-)
