No, my pa is named Raymond. :) It's a reference to Walt Whitman. A professor of mine once argued that Walt was the father of modern American poetry. I was looking for a screen name at the time, and it seemed to follow.
For me, the solitary life is the most desirable and comfortable state of all but I know many people are lonely and adrift by themselves -- your piece illustrates this very well and I like the scolding image at the end -- there are worse conditions than solitude and far worse companions than oneself!
@liz1060 I like your description of the piece...I could not have put it better myself...perfect..I am especially interested in what you say about the end...ie the child's companion...I had not seen the vulture as thus... interesting...Boas Festas.
This is an amazing peiece...I so love it...everything about it - the words are strong with visuals to give it further depth. I could go on & on...but time right now is shorter than I am & I've a road to travel later tonight.
This is your poem I assume. Great work. And your voice... OMG... usually I don't care for background music when one recites a poem, but your delivery is so good I don't even really notice it... actually, why even put music in the back ground when one is gifted with a voice like yours? Love it! 5*/faved (again ;P )
Yes... all my poems apart from the Sexton and the Blake.. Music..? Well, there are always sounds in our lives...it is my muddy way of doing it...I guess... Whereas yr 50's Gangster delivery is tremendously cool without sound..!
Touching poem here. I love the visual metaphor and the look of the film. I think you speak of universal experiences. But however much we are surrounded by friends there are simply some experiences that we cannot share, yet the expression of them has us all nodding, knowingly.
With the wind howling, the rain pouring and the sky a grey grey, that last picture has gripped my mind. I have seen it before. Good words from you. Our moods are trivial compared to this.
Thanks Bob . Yes , the guy took his life I believe. Apparently he left the child to her fate after taking the photo...tho that is what I read rather than what I know.
Power packed work here, friend!! 5+stars. I worked in North Africa three times and witnessed dying children too many times; sometimes i could do something, sometimes not. Cheers, Hunter.
Wonderful.

That's right, he did take his own life. And he did leave her to her fate. Anyway, that's what the article that I read, said.
