A Rat set with vol on 3/4 and gain about a quarter. Just to smooth it out. The amp was pretty cranked to get the overdrive and AC30's get into Marshall territory very quickly when flat out.
COOL man......I could never keep that still...LOlol. How can you rip that , float a boat , soar and tell it like it is sittin down.....Always been my problem.
Browsing through countless "Les Paul - VOXAC30" demos, this one stood out most with regard to my preferences! I someday hope to be able to afford an AC30 classic.. Half way there with a GLP 50thAnn Supreme! Yay! Super skills man! But brother, I can't help but ask... That LP looks like a GuitarHero/RockBand controller on you.. How frickin' tall are ya?!?
I would like to ask you if this is a good amp for a room (mostly about the volume). Also could you tell me if you are using any pedals and if yes, which?
OUTSTANDING!!! I loved your Playing man, now I might wanna ask you a little question hope u could answer me....What Scales/Modes can I study to sound like that?....do you suggest me any Book or Lesson?? thanks!
hi, thanks for the words. The only scales I'm using here are minor and major pentatonics. The trick is knowing when and where over the I IV V progression to bring in the major pentatonic as the dominant scale choice. I do it here over the V chord.
If you don't know a major pentatonic fingering simply use your minor pentatonic scale shape down 3 frets (c minor pentatonic becomes A minor pentatonic) the trick is to highlight the c note as the home note in the A minor pentatonic.
Hi thanks for the kind words. The amp was completely stock, just turned up pretty loud, hence why the camera was vibrating. I also used a RAT on a very low setting to cream it up.
Holy crap, nice guitarwork! I've got a little question: my signature guitar tone (I currently own a Marshall MG101fx transistor amp) is kinda like a violin, with the neck pick-up of my Gibson Les Paul Standard 2008 model selected and the tone knob rolled all the way back. Would I be able to get the same great sustain, violin-like tone and feedback from the Vox AC30?
You would need a good overdrive pedal to be at that kind of level for sustain. Only when cranked to ear splitting vol does the ac30 distort to that level.
shiiit! good blues man! I can see you also have a strat... I'll soon be changing my guitar and I play all kind of music (mostly rock- rock blues) which of the two would you recomend? thanks =)
@snowboarder699 Kinda hard to pick one from the other. They are both great in their own right but will give you very different experiences and sounds. If you like guys like Stevie Ray Vaughan go for a Strat and a Fender amp. If you're more into the Bonamassa / Warren Haynes type blues then go for a Les Paul and a Marshall.
@snowboarder699 from my experience a les paul are more hard to play since the fretboard is more wide cus of the binding, if you are just starting out, buy a strat, great guitar, you can play more styles with a les paul though, every strat has that hendrix srv sound to it, a les paul is more configurable, you can dial in a lot of different tones wich is not possible on a strat, and it don't sound like hendrix and srv, also humbuckers are great for metal,
@satjathamma Thanks alot man, but i've just bought a Gibson es-335. Probably the best guitar i've ever played! Think it's better than both guitars cuz it's alot more versatile (if u spell it like that)!!!
Nice Playing man! I have a question though, I'm torn between getting a Vox AC30 or a Mesa Boogie Extreme, and all I'm trying to get is a good blues tone. What would you reccomend?
Hi there, the scale I use between 0.15 and 0.17 and indeed throughout various bars is the C Major pentatonic scale, (c,d,e,g,a) The same notes as the A Minor pentatonic; as A is the relevant Minor to C Major. You can use your regular A Minor pentatonic shapes as long as you 'home in' around the C note rather than the A note.
Hope this makes sense if not, message me. Thanks.
If you want a Fender sound get a Twin or A Super reverb. The Ac30 has a good sound for rock but the quality seems lacking. Mine broke twice and I changed to a 65 Twin re-issue.
I love it. Check out my other videos for a demo of the Zendrive and Twin and The Clapton Strat through a Twin.
Oh Yeah! that is what I am talking about. I am kind of curious if you had checked out Wampler pedals. Brian makes a pedal that emulates a cranked AC30 really well. Very warm sounding. Google indyguitarist, or check out his youtube videos. Top notch playing!
Thank you very much. I consider to buy a Rat pedal after hearing you playing. What a amazing sound you got. Just the sound i'm looking for. But does it also sound good with Vox AC30, Rat pedal and a Stratocaster instead of Les Paul?? Thanks..
Hi. Yea a regular CC with Vox's own speakers. The celestions sound much better though for the money. This amp is good but i sold it because I felt the build quality wasn't up to much. It is made in china.
Terrific phrasing...that's where the battle is - getting it talk instead of babble. Most babble at that speed...you don't! You and Dan Toler phrase a lot alike. HA! I'd like to hear what you have to "say" jamming on Whippin' Post.
What about a video without the Rat so we can hear just the amp.
I have been a fan of the Allman Brothers for years so i'll have a dig about for some related backing tracks.
The Vox is in the shop at the moment as she is blowing fuses like wildfire. But I will post a video of the amp cookin' on it's own when I get her back.
Hi thanks for the comments. No effects except a Rat pedal with settings for gain at about one quarter of the way up. I also use a Tech 21 reverb unit as the reverb on the AC30 is unusable.
beautifull tone and timming, very nice les paul to!

USA ProCo RAT and a Tech 21 RVB Boost reverb pedal straight into the AC30only cause the reverb on the AC30 is bad.
