He's the president of an atheist organization in Texas, does many lectures, and runs at least two biweekly atheist podcasts. He was miffed at this, said she got robbed. I'm glad I checked it out. Bollocks, She had those 2 choices she wanted to go with. She would've fell HARD if she chose "All I ask of you". She already chose "Jesus Christ Superstar" as one she would have liked to do. Unfortunately, you're right.. However, Webber doesn't give two craps about what controversy surrounds that musical. He wasn't there to help the singers get past that week, he was there to lead the singers in a direction that best fit their own personal style and in this case, he was 100% right.

The final say on which song to sing went to Carly. You don't have to do what the mentor says. Even this past season, Adam Lambert sang "Ring of Fire" even though Randy Travis wasn't keen on it.

the song is from Judas's persective and part of comedic musical, and has been used as a comparison to anyone strolling in and calling themselves the son of god. It's not a christianity bashing musical, its just entertainment and comedy, as someone who grew up in congregational church I think people just need to lighten up.

Now, her performance in this video certainly seemed to go well and received good comments from the judges, but it's the song that knocked her out of the competition. IMO, it's unfair to describe her album "Ultimate High" as a huge flop. The poor sales were mainly due to horrid marketing on the part her record label, not the music itself. Actually, as pop albums go, Ultimate High is quite good, especially considering Carly was only 16 when she recorded it. Carly came on this show to become known. Very, very few people in the United States knew who Carly was, so she came on the show for exposure and to build a fan base.

I'm sure that Superstar, as a song choice, turned some people off but I would posit that it made a lot of people, old theater geeks, specifically, very happy. This is a great song that isn't on TV often.

The tattoos are likely a net negative but some people out there like them and have them and can relate to her for having them

I "voted" for Carly, ran dialing software on my modem to the tune of 600 votes per night, but I don't think for a minute that the fan voting is what determines who goes forward on American Idol. Has Syesha had a surge of popularity? Please! I think the show is cast with people and they know the demographics of the audience and tries to hold on to as much of it as they can. The ratings are in free fall this season because the manipulations are so transparent that people are simply fed up.

Kelly was the first and has a special place in peoples hears, that is fine. Carly Hennessy-Smithson is really something special and would not even be on this show at all if her record company hadn't, first, screwed her over with no promotion, but then turned around and tainted her name in the industry by turning her albums lack of success into a case study in failure. I just think Carly has a better instrument and an amazing faculty for phrasing songs.
