@kagemusha776 I'm not sure what you mean, I don't live to far from (at least part of) the Appalachian trail, and I've never heard it pronounced any different from the way he said it.
@nicedreams666 I've lived in Tennessee all my life and I thought i knew how to say it too. When i moved to Knoxville for school i learned i was pronouncing it wrong. He is mispronouncing it. It's supposed to have a strong ch sound, not a sh sound.
I guess it depends where your from like anything else, Most of NYS, PA, and New England are technically in the Appalachian Mountains(Blue Ridge, Allegheny, Allegany(NY) Adirondack, Catskill, Bristols, Green, Taconic, White, Longfellow, etc) and Im sure we say it much different than the folks down south, anyway great song!

I spent the last five years in Kentucky and heard both pronunciations. Of course, people are real insistent that the first city of Kentucky is pronounced Loo-u-vill.
ive lived in kentucky all my life, (western kentucky, mccracken county) everybody around here says loo-u-vull, ive heard it pronounced lou-e-vill on the local news before, lou-e-vill just sounds weird to me though
you are absolutly correct it is really. i dont live next to the app-uh-latch-uhn mountian i live in them. anybody from the mountains will tell yall how to say it right .
o yea yonder is SICK seen to many times to count.
not trying to piss anyone off just trying to inform.
In northern U.S. dialects the cultural region of Appalachia is pronounced /æpəˈleɪʃ(i)ə/, also /æpəˈleɪtʃ(i)e/, all with a third syllable like "lay". In southern U.S. dialects, the mountains are called the [æ.pəˈlæ.tʃənz], and the cultural region of Appalachia is pronounced [ˈ[æ.pəˈlæ.tʃ(i)ə]]. The third syllable is like the "la" in "latch".[7][8] This pronunciation is favored in the "core" region in central and southern parts of the Appalachian range.
Forty has a biblical significance. It was basically used by the ancient Hebrews to represent a *really long* something. Ex. 40 years, 40 days, 40 nights, etc.
Some would argue that the number 40, in particular, refers to periods of trial and hardship.
I'm non-religious, but I've studied Catholic theology.
There is a sign just outside of Nederland and Rollinsville CO where some of YMSB live that says "Denver 40". Traveling back to the east coast is about a 26-28 hour drive which takes about 3 days if you're being reasonable. I'm confident to say that traveling out of Ned is where the 40 miles comes from, not the bible.
Saw them a few months back in St. Petersburg, Florida. This band is no joke!!! The dude standing next to me was eating magic mushrooms, I was like "holy shit" lol!!!
I've seen them live twice and they have yet to play this song. Pisses me off cause this song rocks. So therefore they better play it on the 31st when I see them again. Either way, they are still one of my favorites.
Whoa ooh oh life is better there!

@tdock14 It takes 30+ to get to the east coast from Denver. I go to DU and live in Mass and its about 35 with two drivers.

@dpetngl you must be a slow driver. We drove from A-Basin, west of denver, to Atlanta GA in 22 hours.
