  • If it won't work why are pro-illegal immigrants so against it?"

  • Come on, these guys are so hypocritical. They say that it is because of terrorism that they are for the border wall with mexico, but they don't explain why a border wall is not being proposed on the border with canada. Not to mention that the 9/11 terrorist entered USA from Canada!

  • The modern border wall was already being built in the mid-90s in and around the most transited border crossings. There is a project to build a wall around the Canadian border, but it was shelved as it was deemed unnecessary, since Canada is pretty much as safe as the US. Only 2 of the 9/11 hijackers came in through Canada and did so legally, the rest entered the US directly, also legally.

  • Terrorists are not interested in entering the US illegally through Mexico when they can do it "legally" through the Canadian border. So, is this the definition of a safe Canadian border? Mexican cross illegally not only to benefit from social security as many are angry about, but to contribute $billions to the US economy with cheap labor taking on jobs that americans won't take. Terrorists enter legally through Canada or directly fly into the US from another country, not Mexico.

  • You might have a point, but the problem is you can't prove it. Part of the problem is that we don't know WHO exactly is crossing the border illegally, and as it's mentioned in the debate, there have been several hundred arrests of illegal border crossers from so-called "special interest countries" (Egypt, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Russia, Indonesia, etc.). So the real concern is about those that weren't caught, those that made it through.

  • Can you prove that at least a single terrorist has ever entered the US illegally (or legally) from the Mexican border? Shouldn't we work on increasing security methods to prevent "legal" terrorist inmigration?

  • Can you prove than none have?

Since 9/11, many measures have been taken to prevent legal terrorist immigration, which includes more thorough background checks for acquiring visas, the creation of so-called "no-fly" lists, as well as several collaboration agreements with governments throughout the world for sharing information about criminal activity, terrorist groups, etc.

  • I hope people don't think that it is safer to have terrorist enter the US legally from Canada than to have mexican construction workers enter the US illegaly from the south border.

  • It's not "safer", but it sure makes it a hell of a lot more difficult for the terrorists to get in through Canada than Mexico. If the terrorists are really keen on getting in, they'll search for the easiest way to do so, and as of now, that way is through the Mexican border, unfortunately. As for the workers, the "good" news is the slow-down in the real estate business will be reflected in a decrease in the influx of immigrants, as the demand for them is rapidly falling as well.

  • How can the easiest way for a terrorist to enter the US be through the Mexican border illegaly? having to hire a coyote and swim across the deadly Rio Grand river, or walk across hundreds of miles of dessert? Many mexicans die in their attempt to cross illegally into the US every year. Facts speak for themselves, terrorists' easiest way to enter the US is legally via a comfortable airplane seat (maybe even first class).

  • Yes, many die. But most make it through alright. Hiring a coyote in Tijuana, Laredo or just about any other border town is as easy as walking into a store, paying the up-front charge and jotting your name down on a list. Remember that most middle-eastern terrorists are also trained in camps to survive many situations, and I'm pretty confident they'd be able to cross the desert safely, more so than untrained Mexicans.

  • They USED to fly in (as indeed it was the easiest way back then), but today these people might try a more guerilla-style approach, which could include crossing into the US illegally through Mexico, as it's the least protected border the country has. The airports have become way to protected, and it's no longer easy to come in through there with all the new safeguards in place.

  • hey k onda como estan? fueron a san luis?

  • Sí, pero no en debate. Nos descalificaron en la ronda semi-final... y tú?
