I love all three of those amps! But the JTM 30 is really underrated! It can produce such an amazing tone with the right setting! This video did NOT do that amp justice.
@rocafella142 Channel A is better than channel B, Channel A has a tube as part of the overdrive circuit, channel B does not. I played thrash on the "clean" channel without using a distortion or overdrive, just super high output active, and it had plenty of balls.
@rocafella142 I owned one for 2 years, played nothing but thrash/speed metal and channel A always came out on top, B is far too muddy and fizzy for any real good definition.
But now I've moved on to bigger and better things, namely the 2203.
@MetalClosey well maybe one of ours was modded. Because my B channel sounds just fine and A channel gets nothing but clean tones even when cranked on 11. Maybe you just had jacked up tubes
@rocafella142 Mine was bone stock, and I'd used several tubes over the couple of years I owned it.
Channel A was designed to just be a lower gain channel, I know tonnes of people who own them and they all have the same results. If you still own it you should try changing V1 and possibly have it looked over.
@rocafella142 Unless you were using low output pickups it really should have some gain. With normal pickups it wasn't like full on metal gain, but it was still crunchy. And with the gain and volume on 10 it was perfect for metal.
Well I think you should have used all the gains from its their respective heads. Then I would hear the diference. I own a JCM900 SLX, a Satriani playing guitarist, and I know thats not the JCM900 sound. JCM900 sounds so punchy and beefy, especially with Satriani and YJ. Malmsteen songs. Thanks again for the comparison, anyway.
You can see on the photos all the gear and settings (amps, 2 effects), that I've used by recordings. I've used TS9 as a booster (drive knob only on 10 o'clock) on the drive channels of JCM800 and JTM30, and clean channel of JCM900. I've used DD-3 in the effects loops and reverb half the way up in all three amps. The strongest reverb was in JCM800 - the reason for this is probably tube reverb in this amp.
In this example the 900 is in it's non diode channel while the 30 is in it's diode channel thus pushing more distortion. It would be interesting to hear the 900 in the drive channel the same as the 30 was recorded. Nice job. . very nice playing.
Model 4501, 50W dual reverb 1x12 combo with EL34 output tubes - amp was made in 1991. This recording was made on clean channel. Distortion channel is more fuzzy.
The JCM900 sounds pretty bad ! I never liked that Marshall model ! The two other are great.

800 is the better amp. I want a 2204
Gonzoidzz 3 months ago
To kill 'em all only use a 2203 or a 1959 with a the TS9 in High imput jack and Volume up to the max.
Attenuator recommended!
In this video the best soud comes out from the 800.

This guy made the JCM 900 sound weak by not using the Gain Channel -.-

@MetalClosey I have this amp and tried all different kinds of possibilities. B channel is better for thrash.

@MetalClosey I use EMG James Hetfields, thats about as high output as you can get

800 is winner, but IMO 900 can sound way better than in this one

i reckon the difference between the 800 and 900 is subtle, but the jtm30 sounds so much more fizzy and thin, and just hurts my ears. IMO.

@74LesPaul The JCM 900 DR uses diodes in clean channel with gain cranked, I got one myself.

why didn't he use the gain channel for the jcm 900?
iwannafuckshitup 1 year ago 15
@iwannafuckshitup he cranked the gain on the clean channel which gives a kind of JCM 800 sound.
