@33guyfawkes I don't know if this has been answered, but no, he was not blind. The burning he suffered on Mustafar severely damaged his eyes, and the mask was equipped to help him see (one thing you may notice is that the mask's eyes are in fact tinted red). If you look up Vader on Wookiepedia, accessible from the Star Wars site, it'll give you all the info on his armor. :)

No dude, that little kid is not darth vader. that is anakin skywalker. That little sense of humanity, known as Anakin Skywalker suffered a deathly blow when he swore alliegence to the dark side, and died when Palapatine deceived him into thinking he killed Padame, Palapatine's power resides in hatred and fear, so he enthrusted that into darth vader, only with the removal of the mask at the hands of Luke was Anakin reborn, and only through that did Anakin fulfill the prophecy.
